Then you havent read very well Torgersen has shown himself in the top 5 of major cobbled classics.
Rosales is now one of the best hilly riders. Simon Berg is doing well als sprinter. These are just top 5 u23 riders on the top of the mind. Some I mentioned in my reports
That's because most of the top u23 talents are either sprinters or classic riders.
There are not enough mountain races in the U23 calender to award GT talents with enough points in the ranking
Clear enough? Sagan. That was 2021. A whole lot of Sagan. Peto had a real blast. He had a conservative spring season in which he managed to win San Remo, E3 Prijs and Amstel Gold Race. But from the Tour on he was in ultimate destructive form.
He won the green jersey, then won the Clasica San Sebastian, the ENECO Tour, Vattenfall Cyclassics, Plouay, the World Championships and Bejing. Due to these flurry of wins he ended the season with no less than 1100 world tour points and 5400 CQ points. What the flying fuck...
In the spring PR had a suprising result with only fictional (scouted) riders in the top 5. Davies Pearson finally winning. Allan Torgersen, nr 1 on the world ranking u23 back in 2013, finished 2nd.
The ardennes has 3 different winners again, nobody seems to be able to dominate these lately.
Alessandro Di Lenardo won his 3rd Giro beating the German stage-race specialist Helge Bohr (good for 3 WT victories that season and a top 5 in the WT ranking). Can Di Lenardo achieve wat Nibali couldn't? Breaking the Giro victory record??
In the Tour Quintana dominated once again and took a victory by over 6 minutes. Florea is getting closer to the Colombian though. The Romanian confirmed his status as the next-best GT racer by winning the Vuelta, in which he beat Chinese hope Daming Chang. Back to the TDF, where Niklas Röytiö took the white jersey as a 19 year old, also finishing 9th in the GC. I posted a picture of him in the scouted talent thread in the general board. This guy will become a monster..
Finally the Worlds, were finally a scouted rider won the U23 ITT championships. Nardini beat Van Garderen and Aldekoaotalora (2nd on U23 ranking in 2013!!)..
In the road race, we had a boring flat circuit in Doha. Sagan proved himself stronger then Viviani and Degenkolb. Kittel suprisingly led out for Degenkolb.. was that a wise decision by (still) the best sprinter in the world? Weird..
The season ended with Sagan winning in Bejing (fittingly). But Betancur also showed his face by winning Lombardia. But more often than not Betancur managed to finish top 5 in almost every world tour race, and not win.. still he scored the 3rd most WT points by doing this.
