Bennati?
Two declining leaders is enough...
I should be able to fit him in somehow for another year.

Time for the harder stages.. I'm tired of Oz being invisible in the flat ones here (well, except of our escapee in 3rd stage)

+1, Lorenzetto jumped straight onto the podium even though this stage suits him least relatively speaking.

Finally for Lo Cicero.
Manan's been a little disappointing since stage 2 as well as my 2 other sprinters, but I suppose the fields a little strong.
Shikai may actually do well in the Young Rider competition, which could be a bit of a consolation if Ji doesn't perform well (although he better)

Haha, I'll make a fool of myself in every race if this actually works
The sprinter stages looks like they get slightly easier for Lo Cicero in the end of the race, so I expect more podiums at least.
Typical if he doesn't reach the time limit in one of the following stages |

Nice stage, you had my hopes up that Ratiy would steal time when he was infront, but atleast he didn't loose time to Castano and others.
Next stage is when the fun starts, I really hope Ratiy can take the lead (and hold it). I think the chanse is bigger than after the TT as we got other leaders than Larsson and I doubt Martin will be able to keep up with the favorites on the mountain. Hopefully Ratiy will attack and leave everyone behind.

Glad nothing went wrong. Laidler being dropped is no surprise.
Huge win for Bougyues. Congrats. Now keep this position, Peraud, and make me happy. Also hoping for Gerrans to do something in the hilly stage.

Lo Cicero get dropped as expected, whole team gets down to help. Well, in my head, he isn't our GC favourite, and now every hope of a decent place in GC is ruined....
Lo Cicero better win 3 more stages now
Congrats to Boygues who aredominating out there!

Shame that last little bump killed off Guarnieri.
Very good couple of days for Bougyues though. |

I was wary of that stage beforehand with it being rated as flat, and I was right. Ardila losing a minute and a half is very very frustrating, now it is up to Soler to try and gain anything from this race.

Couldn't have gone better
Hopefully with the leader's bonus, Tony Martin has an outside shot of a decent GC place, and Jurgen looking good for the points jersey!

You're welcome, Bouygues
Nice to see Martin using his stat boost, and oh how close Daniel was to get the KoM lead.

I'm disappointed Jiriakov got dropped after his mid race escape as he probably was our best bet for the GC. Now we will have to rely on Alizadeh and hope he can take the young riders (unlikely as that is) and hope either Mundle or Jiriakov can take the mountains jersey.

And worst case this race is just going to be pretty awful for Oz. Except the TT we managed to be invisible plus now losing a decent GC-position by minutes. Peraud, you just made me angry today! Bad performance.
Great reports, though. Well done, mate!

What a epic performance by Castaño, to win such a stage and gain the lead is just what we need after all the misery in Algarve! I don't get VW's tactics today, but I'm happy that for once did my Captain sit on the front!

This pic says it all, great report Smowz!

A nice decisive mountain stage. Ratiy looked the strongest, but messed up with positioning. The Castano/Iglinski battle will be a very close one for the rest of the race now - or at least the hilly stage, before they then just have to keep a check on the breakaways on the flat!

Unfortunate for Ratiy that he waited too long. Did a fantastic job chasing them down rider for rider.
And as SN said. Good to see such a stage without any big difficulty before the final climb being more selective than someone might have had expected.
Pity for Oz. Had though that Larsson and Peraud could do well here in the GC. With a less selective stage here even Martin could have done great. |
