Shame he wasn't able to get the win in the last stage but he did very good in GC and the team has won their classifictaions. I think that was a good race after all... |

Thanks for all replies - Bagdonas definitely getting his season underway and it's looking good for the team. First time playing on hard as well  so it's going quite well.

So it’s January, not much has really happened yet. The New Zealand Cycle Classic went pretty well, with two riders in the top 10 of the GC, and bodes well for the rest of the season. In the Tour Down Under, Simone Ponzi grabbed a memorable win ahead of Mikhail Ignatiev after a punchy attack during the uphill finish at Stirling. Nicki Sørensen won the stage at the Old Willunga Hill, but failed to open up a big enough time-gap to win the overall.

NOKIA-EKSPLA DIRECTEUR SPORTIF CALLS SURPRISE PRESS CONFERENCE!
Today Stromeon, the directeur sportif of the new Continental cycling team based in the Baltic, Nokia-Ekspla, has called a surprise press conference. Speaking at the team headquarters in Vilnius today, he has revealed that secondary sponsor and key funder of the team, the Lithuanian laser-development company Ekspla, had voiced their concerns over the fact that their logo was not displayed on the team jersey during the recently concluded New Zealand Cycle Classic. After what seems to have transpired as a heated debate between the two sides, they finally agreed to a new jersey.
Having given his announcement in Vilnius, Mr Stromeon then took an AirBaltic flight to Helsinki to give his verdict on the outcome. Speaking to Yle TV, he said that the new shirt prominently incorporated the circular Ekspla logo and that he liked it a lot. He also gave credit and a lot of thanks to the designer behind the jersey, Atlantius, saying it was an excellent jersey and the team would be proud to wear it through the season.

Ramu, Gatis, and Raivis return from New Zealand after a couple of weeks rest and are back in Portugal. They are joined by Carlstrom, Veikkanen, and Mandri, who are not yet in form and so this race is another preparation race.
A very strong field is present for the Volta ao Algarve, with big names like Nibali, Sagan and Valverde. Stages 1 & 2 are tailor made for Sagan, who is in good form after winning the Vuleta ciclista a Mallorca; however the time-trial will probably be his undoing. Dark horse is Vasil Kiryienka, coming off a win in Etoile de Besseges, the hills suit him and he could do well in the time-trial as well. For the stage to Malhão, someone like Nibali, Valverde, or Anton could triumph, although the latter two aren’t great on a TT bike.
