In non-British election news, here's one thing I'm annoyed about: Google going fancy. I don't need some sort of fade in effect, new fancy buttons or a left side panel when I do searches... |

Exactly. What you do need is a completely superfluous quadruple google!
https://www.google...oogle.com/
EDIT: Goddamnit, the site won't open. It was a site with 4 googles in one page. Completely stupid, I know.

So we have a hung parliament, with tories as the biggest party (50 seast to go, but it won't make the difference)
Both of 'my' seats were unsurprisingly Tory. Evan Harris being voted out in Oxford west was not good
The Greens did well to win a seat in Brighton, but given everything went into their campaign for Caroline Lucas, I'd have been surprised if they weren't very close.
Ed Balls, Education Secretary and tipped by many as Gordon Brown's successor, only managed to keep his seat by a thousand votes.
Jacqui Smith lost her seat (the one who's husband bought porn and charged it on parliamentary expenses), but Hazel Blears unfortunately keeps hers.
Nick Griffin came third having lost votes since last time. HAHAHAHAHA
If it was just on votes, not on votes by constituency (i.e. proportional representation), the parliament so far would be (current system shown in brackets):
Conservatives 222 (291)
Labour 180 (247)
Lib Dems 141 (51) !!!!!!!!!!!!!
UKIP 19 (0)
BNP 12 (0) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SNP 10 (6)
Others 32 (21)
But the rules get weird now. Gordon Brown is still PM. Therefore he gets the first chance to try to form a coalition government. If he does, Cameron can do nothing about it...

In my constituency the Tory even gained on last year's vote percentage. I can hardly believe it. This is a man who has time and time again proved to be a very right wing MP who is unpopular with many members of his party. He has done next to nothing for this area, claiming that a a local level, MPs shouldn't really play a role, leaving this entirely to the council; when he came into our sixth form to give a talk, someone asked about his local policies, and he effectively just said, 'I don't have any.' His speeches are horrendously bad and usually full of blunders. It emerged not long ago that during the last election campaign where he was trying to get sympathy votes for his wife suffering from Breast Cancer, he was having an affair with another woman. How this man is STILL our MP after so many years is beyond me.
It just goes to show that the role of the integrety of the candidate is in many cases almost irrelevant. And for many people in my constituency, though they would have been embarassed about supporting James Gray, the voted for the party alone.
Anyway, I'm relieved the Conservatives didn't get a majority. Now we just have to wait and see what happens now. Fascinating... |

Brown's dangling the prospect of Proportional Representation. Please Cameron, do the same. I can't face another 5 years of Gordon Brown, even though I know Cameron is likely to be even worse

Yeah I hate it too. The Google letters look a little homosexual now. But the things on the left really annoy me. But still probably the best search-engine out there.

Turnout at 65% - very good, especially given the disillusion over the expenses scandal

It's been said many times in the media, but those TV debates really energised the campaign. |

Very much so.
A LibLab pact won't be enough to secure a majority - lots of smaller parties would have to be involved.
If the Conservative - Lib Dem talks don't work out, or the deal isn't strong enough, we'll be heading to a 2nd election

Cameron making a plea to Clegg for a Conservative - Lib Dem pact
EDIT: And now he's made a formal offer. Clegg should make the deal, but it'll be interesting what is in the deal, and whether the Conservatives or Lib Dems are too stubborn to make concessions

Personal Opinion, we'll be voting again before 2010 is over.

That's what Nick Robinson and others are saying.
It all depends on the deal, but I'm inclined to agree with you

Cameron sounds as wishy-washy just then as he did throughout the campaign...
However what other option do the LibDem have, there is not a proper government with Labour.
Force a voting reform ffs please, I am tired of tactical voting, I am tired of safe seats, I am tired of parachuting in MPs... the whole thing is conning the public into thinking we have a proper democracy.
I dislike the BNP and think UKIP are barmy but 1.5 million people voted for them, they will not have an MP in parlement that really is not democratic for me.

Bravo to Cheltenham. Tory target number 6, surrounded by a sea of Blue. Fairly late to announce, and not only have the Lib Dems held it, theyve gained a greater majority
