Stage 14: Vitonia/Gasteiz - Santander
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0001-6.jpg

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0002-6.jpg
Today looks like another day for the break. With 44km to go, the break has a 14 minute lead. Garcia Viveros is here for Discovery Channel.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0003-6.jpg
He won't make it to the finish line with the main break group, however. Along with Sprick, he is dropped off the back.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0004-6.jpg
With 3.5km to go, the break group starts to stretch out.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0005-6.jpg
The sprint starts with Deprez in the lead and Bochu chasing.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0006-5.jpg
Deprez won't be caught and takes the win.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0007-5.jpg
Back in the main pack, Impey is the first to cross the finish line.

I could have sworn I hit the export button, but apparently not so no results. Apologies.

Tour de Pologne

Stage 7: Jelenia Gora - Karpacz
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/tour%20de%20pologne/PCM0008.jpg

Final stage of the tour. Still a number of different guys who could win it. We will try sending Ivan Rovny in the break today. Doubtful the peloton will let him go, but we need to at least try for the KoM jersey.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/tour%20de%20pologne/PCM0009.jpg
Rovny goes in the break and gets the first mountain points of the day but is caught shortly after. His hopes of KoM are gone.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/tour%20de%20pologne/PCM0010.jpg
Nothing signficant happens until we hit the final descent to the finish where a group of 27 split off. Only Andy Schleck is here for Discovery Channel.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/tour%20de%20pologne/PCM0011-1.jpg
As we hit the uphill sprint finish, Alejandro Valverde is in front. He has a shot at the overall win.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/tour%20de%20pologne/PCM0012.jpg
Valverde opens a gap to the chasers, with only Senig able to stay close.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/tour%20de%20pologne/PCM0013.jpg
The old man takes it, and that is good enough for the overall win. He shows the youngsters he still has something left in his legs.

It was a fairly quiet tour for Discovery Channel. Schleck has the highest finish for the team at 12th place.

Stage 15: Santander - Villavicioso
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0014-4.jpg

Another flat stage today. Rest day tomorrow, then back to the mountains.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0015-3.jpg
The day's break has a 2 minute lead with 12km to go. Given a chance for a win, there is considerable jockeying for position. Bodrogi and Veuchelen are pushing to be in front.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0016-4.jpg
The pack is coming fast. As the sprint trains line up, Van Heerden is looking to lead out Farrar.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0017-4.jpg
The break survivors are Vanlandschoot and Pozzato. They give it everything they've got to stay ahead of the sprint.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0018-2.jpg
Vanlandschoot just about dies at the finish, but manages to hang on for a nice win. Pozzato takes second. Break campadres take 3rd and 4th and the sprinting pack swallows everyone else.

Stage 16: Villaviciosa - La Vega de los Viejos
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0019-3.jpg

Back to the mountains for the final week of the Vuelta. Jason Donald still has a shot at a podium spot if he can peak this week.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0021-2.jpg
Meersman gets into the break today, he is going for more mountain points.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0022-2.jpg
Meersman takes maximum points at the first climb, which puts in him the virtual KoM lead.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0023-2.jpg
Not far behind the break, Redondo launches an attack followed by Evans and Sorensen.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0024-2.jpg
Pardilla decides to counter. He is joined by Ricco.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0025-1.jpg
This triggers attacks from Moreno, Garcia Gonzalez and Donald. Popo, Ardila and Lovkvist go too so they can help Jason.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0026-3.jpg
We cross the peak, and guess who is in front? Pardilla of course.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0027-2.jpg
Redondo is 2nd, 1'14 back. In the distance behind Redondo are Sorensen and then Meersman, who is fading fast.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0029-3.jpg
Next a big group combined of early attackers and favorites. Gurendez, Iduriaga, Plaza, Lovkvist, Ardila, Popo, Donald, Evans and Giesecke are here.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0031-3.jpg
Finally, an interesting develoment for Donald. The man just ahead of him in the standings, Moreno, is in another group 30 seconds back with Garcia Gonzalez, Ricco and Fernandez.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0032-3.jpg
Sorensen appears to have cracked as the Plaza/Donald group overtakes him then leaves him behind.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0033-1.jpg
Iduriaga falls off the back of the Plaza/Donald group.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0034-1.jpg
LL Sanchez has launched an attack and managed to link up with the Plaza/Donald group, but just as he gets there both Plaza and Donald pull away from the group.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0035-1.jpg
Plaza manages to ride away from Donald.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0036-1.jpg
Meanwhile, Moreno links up with the Discovery Channel group. This group is now 1'37 behind Donald and the Discovery Channel guys are trying to keep the pace slow.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0037-2.jpg
Pardilla crosses the final peak with a huge lead.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0038-2.jpg
Redondo is still in second, but Plaza is coming up quickly behind him.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0039-2.jpg
Donald is now dragging Sanchez along as he tries to increase the gap to Moreno. If he can pick-up enough time here, he'll leapfrog over Moreno into a podium spot.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0040-2.jpg
Pardilla crosses the finish line in first. Normal service has resumed. Not shown, Redondo takes 2nd with Plaza in 3rd on the same time as Redondo.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0041-2.jpg
Donald crosses the line in 4th. The question now is how much time he'll gain over Moreno.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0042-1.jpg
Moreno crosses the line 2'02 later. He hangs on to third place, but only by 20 seconds now over Donald.

In this years edition, stage 21 is a time trial. Will make it very interesting.

Stage 17: Leon - Salamanca
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0001-7.jpg

A day for either the sprinters or the break.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0003-7.jpg
Looks like the break will rule the day today. With 70km to go, a group of 12 has a lead of 13 minutes over the Peloton.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0004-7.jpg
With 30km to go, riders start dropping off the back.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0005-7.jpg
4.5km to go and only Deprez and Baranauskas are left in front.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0006-6.jpg
As the sprint starts, Deprez seems to have nothing left as Baranauskas sprints by him.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0007-6.jpg
Baranauskas takes the stage win.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0008-3.jpg
In the sprint from the main pack, Impey just barely edges out Farrar.

Stage 18: Salamanca - Estacion de Esqui la Covatilla
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0010-4.jpg

Mountain stage today, but not a particularly difficult one.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0011-1.jpg
Nothing much happens until we start the final climb where Sorensen attacks. Sanchez, Donald and Evans are right behind.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0012-4.jpg
Redondo goes.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0013-4.jpg
Moreno counters.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0014-5.jpg
Pardilla attacks with Plaza right on his wheel.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0015-4.jpg
The attacks stop, and with 2.5 km to go Sorensen is in front on his own.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0016-5.jpg
Redondo is 56 seconds back.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0017-5.jpg
57 seconds in back of Redondo is a group of 8 favorites: Moreno, Sanchez, Garcia Gonzalez, Plaza, Donald, Evans, Tassinari and Pardilla.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0018-3.jpg
Something new, Soresen wins. Not Pardilla.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0017-5.jpg
After Redondo takes 2nd, the group of 8 sprints to the finish. Sanchez takes 3rd over Plaza, Donald and Garcia Gonzalez. Pardilla struggles a bit on the stage.

Stage 19: Bejar - Avila
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0020-2.jpg

Final mountain stage. This will be followed by one flat stage and the culmination of the Vuelta with a time trial.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0021-3.jpg
Meersman has to pick up mountain points today or his hopes of KoM are done. He gets away to take the maximum (6) on the first climb.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0022-3.jpg
Much to Meersman's chagrin, Sorensen, Redondo and Garcia Gonzalez attack to try and pick up mountain points as well, then decide to carry on into the break. As they close in on Meersman, the pack is quickly trying to haul them down.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0023-3.jpg
The pack catches the trio. Meersman has just enough energy for a short spirt to stay ahead of the pack.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0024-3.jpg
It works, Meersman stays in the break and at the second climb, he again takes maximum points. This puts him in the virtual KoM lead.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0025-2.jpg
Going into the final climb, the pack of contenders is down to only 33.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0026-4.jpg
10km from the peak, Garcia Gonzalez, Redondo and Sanchez attack. Evans, Donald and Moreno follow.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0027-3.jpg
Pardilla attacks with Plaza over his shoulder.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0028-2.jpg
Pardilla and Sanchez link up in front. This is bad news for Meersman. If Pardilla crosses the peak first, he will retain the KoM. If he is 2nd, Pardilla and Meersman will be in a tie.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0029-4.jpg
Good news for Meersman. 2nd place it is.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0030-2.jpg
5km to go, and things start to get tight as the jostling for position begins. Donald and Moreno are both here.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0031-4.jpg
Up front, Pardilla pulls away from Sanchez and will go on to another stage win. Sanchez will take 2nd.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0032-4.jpg
As the Donald/Moreno group opens up the sprint, Evans is in front and Donald is pushing to create a gap on Moreno.

i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0033-2.jpg
Evans takes 3rd and it looks like Donald might have a small gap to Moreno, but the race officials don't give him credit for it.

With one set of mountain points on offer tomorrow, Pardilla and Meersman are deadlocked. Should be interesting in stage 20.

Stage 20: Avila - Madrid
i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu49/BangkokYank/Vuelta/PCM0001-8.jpg

Only one set of mountain points up for grabs today, the last of this Vuelta. Meersman, of course, will be chasing them to try and secure the KoM jersey.

Meersman goes on the attack and is second across the points line. That is enough to guarantee the KoM jersey for him. Great accomplishment.

Still a stage to be won here, though, and Farrar gets a great lead out from Van Heerden.

That wraps up a great stage for Discovery Channel. Meersman gets his KoM points and Farrar picks up his second stage win of the Vuelta. Everything is lined up now for Jason to go for the podium spot tomorrow.
