Ryan Eastman - Bontrager 2013 February
sutty68
Ryan still inside the top fifty Wink

FreitasPCM
Berry rode well in stage 3, but the team didn't do quite well in the time-trial.

Pinktay3
Looking really nice. Some good results so far in San Luis.

Spoiler
I don't suppose there will be a Conti Team presentation?

A shame for the result in the third stage.
Not a good one in ITT for Craddock

Avin Wargunnson
Good start in Argentina, both with Barry and your young sprinter. Not so good with Craddock or with Ryan, but that will get better hopefully.
I am only a bit worried about Ryan and his position in team depth chart, as he is not now one of the top punchers.
I'll be back

roturn
Indeed it could have been a better. In especially the tt. But also worse.

@Avin: It`s a hard season for Eastman obviously. Still better than the main helpers like Brown, Avis etc. But not good enough to lead on PCT level.
I really hope that he finally starts to improve this season. Otherwise it will be hard for him riding in the PCT that young.

Tour de San Luis

Stage 5 - La Toma - Merlo (Mirador del Sol) (163,1km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_1-1631.jpg

Today the second hilly stage. Just like the first it`s not very hard as there are almost no difficulties until the final climb. This one isn`t hard enough to lead to a real selection.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_2.jpg

8 riders in todays break. They are lead by Lawson Craddock. He saved energy for the time trial. After he couldn`t fulfill his expectations he is attacking today. With Kroon, Mondory or Duggan there are some well known riders in there as well.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_4.jpg

Rabobank is doing everything to defend Kelderman`s lead. Even 4th overall Van Emden has to work for the leader jersey.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_6.jpg

Just like 2 days ago Astana and also Calzati are attacking early. This time followed by no one else but Cadel Evans. That`s a strong group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_8.jpg

Only 8km to go and as the Astana group has joined the former breakaway. This means no chance for Craddock out of this group obviously.
Ben Grenda and Nathan Brown higher the pace behind to bring Berry into a perfect position. Maybe our best chance to make a good race out of a weaker one.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_10.jpg

1,6km to go and the group is caught which makes it some kind of big mess now.
Berry is directly next to Kelderman in a good position. I am also in a decent position on the right bottom with Brown and Parker slowly falling behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_5_12.jpg

And what a win. Berry followed Kelderman`s wheel until the last 250m before he made his move and wins with half a bike length. Peterson and Boily follow a bit surprisingly. And the biggest surprise is on the 4th. Hanging the whole time just behind Berry really helped me to move forward step for step. Great result for me of course.

A great result from Ryan, getting a top-5 result, and helping Josh Berry grab the win! Grin

A real shame that the final climbs in San Luis aren't longer. Otherwise I think Berry would've been able to gain a bit of time along with the stage wins. Smile

Still, dominant on the climbs! And great finish from Ryan as well!

A Great victory for Joshua Beery Smile

And so nice nice to see Ryan up there in fourth place Wink

HAven't followed along all that much, but I love the 2013 transfers.

Cool to see Meiji as a team Pfft

Thats a really good looking team you have there. Goddaert and Keukeleire especially. Dombo is looking really strong too, although Eastman still looks only average on this team. Hopefully he can grow and become a leader soon Pfft

Also about Niels Albert I think he got some pretty decent results on mountain stages in the road before. I think he actually won a bunch of 2.2 mountain stages.

ste_18
Great win for Berry, and a very good performance with Ryan in the Top 5

Thanks all. The win was surprising but showed his decent form. The 4th by Eastman was the bigger surprise. Good daily form and perfect position obviously.
@Freitas: Actually he didn`t really help Berry but I agree. This sounds much better. Wink
@Pellizotti: A bit disappointing indeed. But I am not too sure about it then. They might be too mountaineous already for Berry.
@Valverde: I love the Meiji jersey. They replaced the former Nippo team and got some nice additions. Hope you are right about Eastman.

Tour de San Luis

Stage 6 - Lujan - Quines (201,7km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_14-2017.jpg

Todays stage starts pretty tough. A long climb. One of the longest actually here in this Tour. Then mainly flat and a bit uphill to the finish. All together something for the sprinters. Hopefully Ben can do something today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_15.jpg

It didn`t too long today until the breakaway was formed. And I got the okay by the team today and have made the jump. Next to me some very popular names with Scarponi, Gadret. Flaksis and Olheiser complete the five man group.
My aim are the mountain points. I already collected a bit and the goal is still the KoM jersey. Obviously I don`t want to steal it from Joshua but he`s fine with it in especially as Flaksis is a potential danger in this ranking as well.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_17.jpg

Before the climb really starts the first small points are already given.
I was the best here ahead of Flaksis and Olheiser. The two most famous riders save their energy. Obviously their goal is the stage win only.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_19.jpg

Also on top of the Cat.1 climb I take the maximum points and also the KoM lead. Flaksis, Gadret and Scarponi come next with Olheiser having lost contact.
After winning the KoM jersey last year already I just need to finish the race this year as there aren`t enough points tomorrow. Yet another great start into the season.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_21.jpg

The climb was also too tough for some sprinters. Unfortunately this included Ben Grenda who is a bit behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_23.jpg

Craddock and Brown felt back and waited for him. Together they found contact to the peloton again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_25.jpg

With 17km to go I am caught. The others are still ahead but my goal is accomplished. Totally exhausted after the mountain sprints I couldn`t go for the stage win as well.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_27.jpg

Unfortunately Ben Grenda was also too exhausted after the climb today. He couldn`t perform in todays sprint and is in the back of the peloton.
As this counts for quite a few sprinters and Berry was feeling well he is in a great position just behind Bozic, Kreder and his leadout Vansummeren.
Bennati is just behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_29.jpg

With 2km left I lost contact. The GC wasn`t an issue for me since the ITT. So I don`t really care. Tomorrow I will wear the KoM jersey which is already a great success. With me also Parker lost contact. He really had a bad day today but just like me he won`t care too much.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_6_31.jpg

Bozic with a great day. Easily he wins the sprint ahead of Martens, which already shows how hard the stage was and Kreder. Berry as 11th just outside of the top10 with another notable performance.

Brilliant job, Ryan!
He's starting to be a real consistent rider, you can always count on him being right there, very nice!

FreitasPCM
Good to see Ryan get the KoM jersey! Smile

sutty68
A very tough day in the saddle today, but Ryan showed that he is coming of age with a great display Wink

roturn
Thanks all.
He needs this consistency of course seeing that he isn`t really improving...
At least he gets some results. A KoM in San Luis the 2nd year in a row is definitely a nice success.

Tour de San Luis

Stage 7 - San Luis - San Luis (167,3km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_7_36-1673.jpg

We are back in San Luis for the final stage. It`s a circuit race with some hills but everything but a sprint finish would be a surprise actually.
For me it`s a great end of the race wearing the KoM jersey. In the GC unfortunately neither me nor the team were able to geta good result.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_7_37.jpg

Just like last season I have a good start into the season with a success just in the first race. Hopefully this is a good sign for my season to be more successful. My contract is running out and I definitely need something in my palmares to justify any contract offer.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_7_39.jpg

During the first lap a group of 8 was allowed to create a gap.
Within these Nathan Brown as also Scarponi and Gadret, who showed some nice attacking style here in San Luis.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_7_41.jpg

But with 6,6km to go Lucas Euser is the last rider to be caught again. Like last season this race is not suited for breakaways except you are going for the KoM jersey obviously.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_7_43.jpg

Just like yesterday you can see that the sprinters have suffered on all the hills. So it`s Paul Martens with a surpsising win. He already showed his great form on the last stage and is moving onto 2nd overall. Boy van Poppel and last years winner Kreder follow next with Berry again 11th after Grenda had no energy left.

For the team a so-so race. Of course the stage win and the KoM is very nice. But on the other hand we had expected more in the GC than a 32nd and a better time trial result.
Still it`s a decent season opener once again and we won`t regret racing here for sure. Berry showed his great skills already and we think he can become a very good factor for us.
Next race will be the Tour Mediterraneen, where I will be participating as well. Should be an interesting race with our new leader Pieter Serry.
