What a brilliant result for a TTT Shock

Fifth place is indeed a great result. I'm very surprised to beat Europcar! Unfortunately, the fifth rider just got dropped in the last two kilometres so I had to slow down a bit but we're only talking 2-3 seconds, so it wouldn't have made any difference.

@Jesley, Hoogenboom is a monster at the moment, shame there was no ITT or he might have picked up another win.

@Abelbaba, so did I! Pfft

Next TT is a month away. Tour of the Gila. Not sure about your planning, but Bakker can give that a try if he wants.
I hope the manager lets Wesley ride the Tour de Beauce. An ideal TT length for Wesley and it would get him in top-form to the Dutch NC's Wink

Race Report
Circuit des Ardennes International Stage 4

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0004_zps1ced6cab.jpg

The final stage is short and is classed as flat but there is one big climb in the second half of the route which could cause all sorts of problems for the weaker riders. With no real chance of success on the GC anymore, it's a great opportunity for a breakaway but with big teams like Endura, Cofidis and Saur controlling things, it's unlikely to succeed. We will definitely give it a go though!

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0001_zps0be8f16d.jpg
There were eight men in today's breakaway, Hoogenboom the man chosen for Sky due to his brilliant recent form. A few of the riders in there were just trying to get KoM points, including Muller and Boeve. As it happened, the Dutchman got enough points to win the competition, just. The maximum advantage the eight got was just four and a half minutes as Endura weren't taking the risk today.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0002_zps7edf1748.jpg
As the rain came down in the second half of the stage there were always likely to be accidents. Incredibly, there was just one though, as Bracco hit the tarmac on a tight corner on one of the descents. That was the end of Ricardo's day as he went out the back of the peloton and couldn't get back in. Up at the front, Tiernan-Locke had set a searing pace on the climb and the gap was down to just a minute to the breakaway.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0003_zpsc00896b7.jpg
With the peloton closing in, Hoogenboom went for a solo attack but there just wasn't enough of a gap and he was soon brought back by the peloton, which was moving like a high speed train now! Kim was out the back again, while all the other riders were battling just to stay in the group, with none of them able to compete for the stage win. It was the Tour de Normandie all over again!

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0004_zps0266ddd2.jpg
Julien Simon finally picked up a stage win, narrowly beating Von Hoff on the line. With Downing only managing sixth, that tiny margin of victory was enough for Simon to win the race by three seconds! Duque was third ahead of the very consistent Janse Van Rensburg, while the Sky riders were just happy to come in with the peloton, Fischer the highest finisher in 35th. This race certainly started better than it finished but it was a MASSIVE improvement on the team's last race in France!

We should stay away from French 2.2 races from now on, since French PCT Teams(and that are a lot Wink) can participate in them Grin

Whilst I agree (it's incredibly annoying to get riders like Simon, Dumoulin etc. at small races like this), they were the only races we weren't rejected from! Pfft
The French seem to like our team (thanks, I think, to Jaquin Wink).

Race Preview
Tour Doon Hame

A short stage race in Southern Scotland, the Tour Doon Hame is the next race in the British calendar. Both of the stages are primarily flat but both contain a fair amount of climbing as you'd expect with a race in Scotland. Both stages should end in bunch sprints but the hills could wear some riders down and, of course, you never know if a breakaway will succeed. The British teams will certainly be trying to animate the race.

The Team

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0007_zps4db2542c.jpg

Again, the team has a British core with Hammarling hoping to go well in the sprints. The team's only Scotsman, Droochit, will be very highly motivated to perform well and will hope to be very active. Gilbert, Jones and Oget will also be aggressive, whilst Sutton will try to show his improved climbing skills, although this might not be the ideal race for that.

Race Report
Tour Doon Hame Stage 1

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0005_zps28155bab.jpg

Stage one is the shorter of the two, at just 125 kilometres. The one big climb is Tairlaw Summit, which peaks forty kilometres from the end, so it should settle down for a bunch sprint.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0004_zpscd9b048a.jpg
As the race got underway, there were the usual attacks as lots of teams tried to put men in the break. Bakker looked like he had made it away with a small group but more attacks put paid to that. Eventually, five riders got themselves free, including local lad Droochit. Unfortunately, he couldn't quite deal with the power of Rudaskov at the KoM sprints but he picked up some points which might come in handy tomorrow.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0005_zps0be957a6.jpg
Strangely, Optum were doing a lot of the work on the front, despite the fact that they don't have a sprinter! An Post were also working in support of Eeckhout and the gap came down a lot over the long climb. Even though he knew he had very little hope of staying away, Droochit wasn't finished and gave the Scottish fans something to cheer as he rode solo for a few kilometres before throwing in the towel.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/Sky%202012/PCM0006_zpsb40346a5.jpg
As the peloton raced into Girvan, it was MTN with the best leadout as they kept Brown right at the front. Endura were also up there, working well for Wilkinson, while on the left Sky had a superb leadout for Hammarling, who was feeling strong today. Some of the best sprinters here, like Eeckhout, Clancy, Briggs and Huff were nowhere and would struggle to compete at the finale.

And Brown paid his team mates back with a great burst of speed to see of Ian Wilkinson. Hammarling was the only other rider in the same timezone as the front two in third. Dean Downing was fifth, with Eeckhout only managing ninth, just ahead of Gilbert. The rest of Sky's riders came home in the peloton, whilst Raleigh had a very bad day, five of their six riders finishing in a group three minutes down.
