Ryan Eastman - Bontrager 2013 February
sutty68
Hope Ryan has a Great start to his season Wink

But judging by some of the squads it is going to be hard Frown

Spilak23
Will be tough to get a good start to the season against this Astana team.

Hope Ryan can get in some breaks and take the KoM!

Indeed, and that's exactly what I thought when scrolling through the PCT teams Shock

I thought "Wow, Keukeleire is promotion material, why don't aim for WT?"
Then I saw the other squads, and even though (especially mid-range) PPDB stats are not completely comparable to a Daily DB, this is insane!

Good luck either way, and would you mind sharing Olivier Le Gac's stats, seeing as he's in my ManGame team? Pfft

Ian Butler
Now you go out and grab that KoM jersey Wink

Thanks all.
Astana is indeed insane here. Sending all of their leaders to a race that`s not even very mountaineous.

@Cio: The PPDB stats are totally different. They are far higher than in other DB`s plus they became even higher during the 1st season. Still it brings pretty good results.
Le Gac made two steps up during the last season. Don`t know how he was at the start. He definitely is a nice rider.

Tour de San Luis

Stage 1 - San Luis - Villa Mercedes (166,2km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_11-1662.jpg

The first stages goes up a bit before constantly going slightly down towards the finish in Villa Mercedes. Unfortunately the climb rewards now KoM points, so we might stay in the peloton riding for Ben Grenda, seeing what he is capable to do.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_14.jpg

Great feeling to race again. Winter is definitely too long. The form obviously isn`t perfect but all of us trained hard in the first 3 weeks of January, so it`s not too bad.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_16.jpg

4 riders in todays breakaway. De Maar, Haga, Euser and Flaksis.
As expected we save our energy for later stages.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_19.jpg

New colours in the peloton. The former Team Type 1 - Sanofi squad became HIG - Sanofi. With Romain Bardet one of the biggest talents in cycling is doing the pace right now. With Borut Bozic they have another good signing, who surely wants to show something today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_21.jpg

More and more teams supported them and so the breakaway is over with just 5,6km to go. Time for the sprinter teams to finish their sprint trains.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_23.jpg

Two big sprint trains has been formed. HIG-Sanofi for Bozic and Saxobank for Bongiorno. The Argentine surely is motivated riding in his home country.
Kreder and Breschel probably in the perfect position right behind them. Also Bennati can be seen in a good position.
Ben was able to get a position at the end of the Bozic train. Not the best position but also not the worst actually.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_1_25.jpg

Kreder continues where he stopped last year. Winning stages in San Luis. This race really must suit him. Bennati comes in 2nd ahead of Bozic and Bongiorno.
Grenda with a nice 7th today. He had still some energy left but got blocked in due to the positioning. But this definitely gives us some more opportunities this season seeing that he isn`t even our strongest sprinter.

The others of us all finished in the middle of the peloton avoiding any time loss.

Nice seventh place from Grenda Wink

And nice to see that none of the Team lost any time Wink

roturn
Thanks.
@Ian: I think it`s more due to the fitness. He has 65 or so. So probably more than some others. Later he won`t reach very much with 69flat/73sprint and almost no backup stats.

Tour de San Luis

Stage 2 - Fraga - Juana Koslay (146km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_2_1-146.jpg

The second stage is another chance for Grenda. Yesterdays 7th was a good start. But he looked good and so we hop for another good result today.
Also the first 6 KoM points will be given today. So I might want to try something.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_2_2.jpg

Three riders in todays breakaway. Ivan Basso probably the most known. But also Konovalovas is a popular rider plus young French talent Le Gac. So in general a very strong group.
The early pace was extremely high so all our attempts to send Brown or me into a group failed. Hopefully this will work better in the next days.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_2_4.jpg

Garmin is doing the main work for Michel Kreder. The Dutch once again is in the leader jersey here and is the top favourite today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_2_6.jpg

With 5km to go the breakaway is caught and the sprint preparation already started. Unfortunately Ben was blocked by some slower riders and lost Kreder`s wheel, which obviously would have been perfect.
Behind Oss and Nizzolo at the moment is still not too bad.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_2_8.jpg

2km later the situation became a bit better.
Bongiorno`s train on the left side with Mondory behind.
Kreder in the middle and Bozic on the right with Van Poppel and already Grenda behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Eastman-2013/SL_2_10.jpg

It`s Bozic today taking the stage win with Kreder, Nizzolo and Bongiorno following in a very close fight for 2nd.
Grenda finished 9th today, so a bit worse than yesterday but with another top10, which is pretty nice. The sprint was just very fast in the end. Too fast for Ben today.

Kreder keeps in the lead closely followed by Bozic. But probably more important the three breakaway riders all avoided to lose time in the end and are of course dangerous riders now.

Too bad Ben couldn't handle the pace at the end! But it's still a creditable result Smile

If anything at least Grenda is being consistent Wink

Two Top 10 are quite good for Grenda and like sutty said he is consistent

I mean Grenda, my bad...It will be his nickname Pfft (just joking)

roturn
Thanks all.
I also like him sprinting "easily" into the top 10.
With Keukeleire and Goddaert I have stronger sprinters, Grenda will always be between 5. and 15. I think. And one of the neo pros can become a solid sprinter as well. So far better than Stuyven last season, as he isn`t even a future sprinter but more a puncheur.

Tour de San Luis

Stage 3 - Estancia Grande - Mirador del Potrero (160,5km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_12-1605.jpg

As we have seen last year the climbs here in San Luis are not very selective. Still we have to try with Parker and Berry as we won`t stand a chance in the time trial.
For me it`s time to get my first KoM points if I will keep chances on repeating my 2012 success.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_13.jpg

The pace was really fast from the beginning. I always tried to be in the first group, which obviously is very energy consuming.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_15.jpg

Later a group of 5 was allowed to go. I was pretty lucky to be in there as I had to chase them solo for a while. Popovych, Flaksis, Milne and Cantwell are the other riders in here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_17.jpg

The soon coming Cat.3 was too early for me. I couldn`t counter when Cantwell attacked and only finished 2nd here. Not the best sign for me. I am not on top level that early in the season and the often tries to get into the breakaway let me suffer.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_19.jpg

We are coing uphill to the first Cat. 1 in San Luis. It`s far too cold here this year with snow falling. Shit conditions to ride a bike.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_21.jpg

On the last meters I lost contact to the group and so I only got 5th up here, which means at least 6 points. But it became far harder now to get the KoM lead later in the race.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_23.jpg

Astana uses their strength and attacks with 2 riders with 32km to go. Scarponi and Iglinski are followed by Calzati and Reus.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_25.jpg

With 19km the uphill section slowly begins and we are almost caught. Also the Scarponi group wasn`t able to create a big gap so far.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_29.jpg

1km later everything is back together and we immediately see the next attacks. Le Mevel and Ballan try it. This move is a bit weird as Garmin`s Kreder is still the race leader and proved last season that he is capable to win the overall here.
Maybe they are afraid of the far stronger TT competition this season.
Also Dale is trying to follow. In the end he only spent his energy for nothing as the group catches all of them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_31.jpg

2km left. Ballan is a bit ahead when Boily, Berry and Le Mevel attack.
Berry looks really strong here and this was the perfect moment.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_3_33.jpg

The peloton came closer in the sprint again and on the last meters Rabobanks Kelderman overtakes Berry and wins the stage. Still a good 2nd place for our new signing. So close to his first win.
The group was still pretty big and with Parker and myself we had a trio in the front group. Unfortunately our two better time trialists Craddock and Brown lost contact on the last kilometer and lost time. So one option is already gone.

Thanks. Kelderman must have a great form that early. He came very fast when I was already willing to celebrate...

Tour de San Luis

Stage 4 - San Luis - San Luis (19,8km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_4_35-198.jpg

Todays stage might decide the overall even with the 2nd hill finish tomorrow. Bad news for us as Craddock already lost time and Berry isn`t a good time trialist. So it`s more about a good stage result.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_4_36.jpg

Lawson Craddock was one of the best US time trialists always being in the front positions. This year he is still looking for his form.
4th at the intermediate only. This won`t become a very good result.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/SL_4_39.jpg

Time for me to perform. I didn`t lose time in yesterdays final, which was pretty good. But I also couldn`t reach what I planned.
Today it`s of course mainly suffering for me. I really don`t like time trialing. Just like Berry and Parker I will finish in the last third of todays ranking and this will give us some opportunity tomorrow.
