Le Triptyque des Monts et Chateaux Stage 4

We return to the action in Belgium now with the final stage of Le Triptyque. Gilbert takes a comfortable lead into this challenging stage but the whole team will have to work very hard to keep him there. There are just the two cobbled sections but they are on a very steep hill and if the pace is high, serious problems will be caused. Then, in the final twenty kilometres, the riders will have to tackle one final climb, twice, as the stronger sprinters prepare for one final battle.
The break went away at the very start today, consisting of eight riders. Van Niekerk was doing the team job today, going with them and sitting at the back, not contributing to any work. The South African was also the best placed on GC, so if the break did make it to the end somehow, Aidan would take the win!
Of course, the break didn't really stand any chance over such a tough stage, partly due to the fact that none of them could deal with this terrain. De Rijke were again doing most of the work as they knew Sky wouldn't chase with a man up the road. Once again, the peloton split into multiple groups over the tough cobbled climb but Sky stayed safe near the front, although Jaquin and Johansson were totally shattered.
With all of the climbing out of the way and the escapees long since caught, Vandousselaere of Topsport decided to go on the attack. There had been numerous attacks already but Sky had kept them all in check. Now, however, they were out of legs with the majority of the team struggling just to stay in the much reduced peloton. He quickly pulled out forty seconds and it looked like he could do what Gilbert had done on the opening stage.
So it was left to Gilbert to do the chasing instead and he led the peloton into the finish. Huigsloot was making the most of this by sitting just behind Schumacher, who was on Gilbert's wheel. To be honest, Gilbert was doing what the yellow jersey should do on the final stage, making sure nobody could beat him. In the final two kilometres, it was clear that Vandousselaere wasn't going to get a big enough gap to take the GC, but could he get the stage win.
Yes he could as he just held off the sprinters to claim the win. Christina Watches completed the podium, with Pedersen just beating Schumacher, ahead of Duyn and another top five for Huigsloot. In the distance, you can see the yellow jersey of Gilbert finishing safely in 19th position to clinch the team's first ever overall victory. What a few days this has been!

I guess Diego is trainning in Colombia as Henao and Uran do all year while they're not racing, hope he shows in Circuit des Ardennes in a good shape... and North American races are coming also!
Great results in Belgium and UK... !!

We've done a great job in Belgium, especially Jey did. Wesley is very happy with his 4th place in the GC

Race Preview
Circuit des Ardennes International
The team return to France now, the scene of a massacre the last time they raced here! The eight men here will certainly be hoping that the race is a little bit easier than the Tour de Normandie though. It's only half the length, four stages, with the first and last stage both being flat. In between those two, though, there are two challenging tests. Firstly, stage two offers up a brutal test of climbing with a steep uphill finish, which should open up big gaps on GC, especially with the amount of climbing that comes before it. Then, stage three is the team's first, and only, team time trial of the year. Run over thirty kilometres, it will be a massive test of teamwork, cohesion and power on the flat.
With the race being so varied, it's difficult to know who will lead the team's charge but Fischer will certainly be hoping to go well on stage two. However, he will really struggle to stick with the strong rouleurs on the TTT. Jaquin will also be given freedom on home soil, especially in the sprints, with Huigsloot also here, hoping to carry his form from Belgium. Kim, Thompson and Hoogenboom will be key to a good performance on stage three, while Zabala and Bracco don't have the necessary race fitness to challenge, but both will look to give the team everything they have. |

I didn't like cobbles, but manager says it's better race for me now. More climbs and team time trial. Also, no cobbles. Yoo-suk happy now

It´s a shame Diego is not in a good shape for France, but this will certanly work for him for racing in America, "Joe Martin Stage Race" looks like a beatifull race for him, in Ardennes Im sure he'll work his ass out for his leader... Good luck!

Joe Martin Stage Race doesn't have a real mountain/hills stage. It got a short 4km climbing TT, but the max difference is about 10 seconds there I think...
