Couple stages in, so far a 0 pointer. Not a lot if at all breakaway appearances, losing time as expected against stronger riders, when being in the break would have been needed.
Can only hope Velits/Ciccone show something in the later stages now. |

Holloway continues to be exciting. Love to see another win for one of the coolest sprinters in the MG DB.
You will start to shine soon. We are momentarily ahead of you in the rankings having scored 147 points this race (139 deficit with you scoring 2 so far), so I guess it's about time luck turns around
I suppose it's a matter of time before Vosekalns runs away with a stagewin and a surprise 7th GC

We'll see. I suspect i might have to wait until Dauphine starts before getting any bigger results but i like surprises too and break wins are always possible
147 points already is huge, seems like your monthly expectations are gonna be easily surpassed

Indeed. If I had just one stage like this in the Giro, I would have come out of this race on par with expectations. But oh well
If I'm lucky then van Niekerk can survive the next stage still in the leaders jersey. The stage should suit him OK, but we probably can't control anything. If he does survive however I can see Bongiorno losing some points from being a domestique rather than a leader, so overall it might not be a huge pointshaul - but definately (significantly) better than what we came to expect!

And there goes O'Connor's U25 ambitions. Losing 6 minutes in a flat stage..

That was a very good stage by our team. Castrillo trying and succeeding in joining the breakaway, and then Silva sprinting to a surprise 6th place. Chapeau, team! |

Decent race for us so far. Nothing special, but at least Iturria is in a good place in the GC for the time being.
Could be a good stage for a break tomorrow, so hope to see us up the road there.

Dunno why the game would tease me like that putting Herklotz as a *** favorite, we all know that's not how sprints work this season.
Solid positioning to get 15th and one additional point though, but Holloway keeps doing whatever his thing is to get out of reach of the points jersey for at least another stage.
Now we arrive at the best stage on paper for Herklotz, being the top puncheur present.
I hope we can capitalize on that, both for rankings points and for bonus seconds to extend the gap to Madrazo and Morton. Do NOT let the break take this uncontested!
Ideally, the gap setting for this stage is small enough to force micro-gaps and get yellow regardless.

I'm sure you can survive Aidan van Niekerk to have the jersey for just one more day - If you keep things together and take the stagewin and drive van Niekerk to a stage top 5 and keeping his jersey then we have a deal. Right?

Our leader falls behind and the team puts the hammer down in the main group. Make it make sense

Signed, sealed, delivered!
A perfect stage for us, which allowed us to hit all the marks we've set pre-race:
Get into yellow before the mountains, and use the TTT and bonus seconds to the maximum to extend the gap as far as possible to allow Herklotz to just follow the moves instead of having to instigate them.
My fear was a disadvantageous gaps setting, and it turned out to be the exact opposite! Rarely is a 4s gap awarded, so while it sounds ridiculous, I'm seriously happy the training got us the win AND those 4 seconds.
A minute on Morton and 1'10 on Madrazo are not a comfortable cushion yet, particularly with the possible randomness of a mountain TT looming, but those gaps are about as much as the terrain could have possibly offered for any dominating rider so far.
It's especially reassuring considering this is the exact scenario we will find ourselves in the TdF in, with opportunities to create early advantages against a stronger climber.
We have to stay focused though, as everything can be undone tomorrow if Herklotz has a bad day or makes a wrong decision.
Let's keep the pressure on, but be smart about it.
In this rare case, it might actually be beneficial for us to let the breaks sweep the bonus seconds, but obviously I'm quite allergic to throwing away stage points by now.

I'm sorry that you had to experience Aidan going for the Skujins special there..

It wasn’t the smartest move by Aidan, but looking at the quality of that select group there would have always been a risk of him being dropped, and then it’s atleast interesting to be aggressive! No Malecki-luck though!
On the other hand we keep collecting decent points with also Bongiorno in a great 4th on the stage.
Congrats on the Herklotz win mate.

A nice ride by Penko in the breakaway

Not that I expected a lot here but all riders but the breakaway one more than 3 min behind wasn't expected.
Velits really needs to attack on the mountain stages now to at least get something from that race. He really is pretty crap post decline and even more than his actual stats would suggest. Doesn't help that Ciccone is showing a lot less in general than you would expect from a 77 climber. So far can't remember a single breakaway from him and not a single stage he performed at least close to a top30 in a mountain stage or even top50. So he could also stop that and improve in a free role position like here.
Other than that, point wise, there wasn't much expectation, so clearly not the worst race. |

A bit worried when Iturria was behind the split, but he did good in the end and still in a good position. Looks good for Herklotz now, congrats on the win, cio!

Meintjes is in a decent spot atm after the hill stage but it was disappointing that he missed the move on stage 3. Now instead of being in the Talansky area he probably really needs to look backwards. Still with 3 big stages to go I hope he can do well and stay up the order but who knows.
Enger grabbing a podium after an underwhelming first stage but at least he is showing signs of life here.

Finally some points with Gidich's 6th place. Could've been a little better on a good day though. Reis unfortunately just couldn't hold on, but is not in a terrible position yet. Hope he can successfully complete the mountain stages for once. |

Morton avoiding stupid losses, that's all we got from this race so far. Somehow as to be expected tough, since we won't join breakaways with Morton as our leader and Meyer would have needed a better form to not struggle in those stages.
