Gap is already down to 30" for the quartet with 40kms to go. So much for our strong breakaway. =) |

I wouldn't have thought that the teams would be that keen to control it so closely but I guess everyone wants to start the season off with a win.

Just started tuning in, is Kittel in the peloton?

Kittel is confirmed to be in the peloton after Checker Hill, although it took a while to get a visual confirmation and Giant Alpecin left the front of the peloton for a while.

This has been really high pace, certainly much more so than I thought it would be.

Well it's been downhill, so...
Still a bit surprising this early in the season

Time for a bit of high-risk poker as the sprinters teams in the peloton try to get the others to chase for them.

It was still about 42km/h in the first 100km. I was expecting closer to 38 at least until the end. The strength of the break has really forced this on.

Under the Flamme Rouge for the breakaway and the peloton are not in sight behind them just yet.
(Now they are)

Wow I thought Bobridge had done too much work in the lead-in. Good win.

Great race to watch, the peloton was right on the break!

Wasn't Von Hoff member of the NFTO racing team?

He might be, but UNI-SA takes the best Australian riders who aren't in a team that can race.

30 seconds with 40 km to go and the break still won?
This new AI sucks!

4 of the most powerful riders in the peloton + Steep Technical Downhill +Kittel catching back up from the climb and not wanting to tire himself out yet = Break stays away.

Some sprinter teams really failed here. Quickstep, Movistar should have jumped in more for Giant.
Nice win though for Bobridge and my Velogames team is celebrating as well. |
