Wow, sucks for alexkr00. Surely that fall took a toll on Gesink's perfomance.
And nicely done Machado. Now don't screw it up in the hilly stages.

Epic win by Alarcon, a performance that reminded me a bit like good old Rasmussen back in 2007 in the tdf stage to Tigne(though that was on dope)
I feel sorry for our Dutch Rivals in project 1t4i but with the quality they posses is it only a matter of time that they turn the current disappointment to glory.

Noone can ever claim again that this game isn't realistic...commiserations to 1t4i.
VDB yeah...
- not following the initial attack (as in Catalunya): stupid
- making it back in style: awesome
- attacking right away, thus loosing time in the end: stupid
- nearly secured 12th place at the very least: awesome
Very happy as well about Nerz with a very PCM12-esque gap to 23rd already, and thrilled to be best PT team so far!

Well, I got used to Gesink crashing, but this was a win goal it's more disappointing than an usual crash.
Plus I don't think he would have lost time if it wasn't for the crash

You could start to believe there is a crash-stat hidden somewhere.
Really bad luck for Gesink.
But a really impressive attack from Alarcon. He should be able to hold the yellow on the MTT but the hilly stages will probably be a bit too hard for him.

What a joke performance by Amador. That was stupid.
Cool to see Alarcon's big move working though.

Bad luck for Gesink. Why can't PCM be realistic on other stuff without beeing crashing? |

Ow, a mountain jersey, i can live with that. Probably the best i can expect from this race.

Exciting stage there, offering something a little different to the mountain top finishes we will see in the GT's.
Sella produced a big effort but paid for it at the end unfortunately. Still in touch with a top 10 GC performance which is probably the target. Putting massive time into Valverde, Amador and Gesink is welcome.
Of course I wish he could have done an Alarcon - but that was a seriously special ride by the Man Game icon.
A lot more the play for though in this nasty looking race - wish they'd give us a race like this in real life once in a while .
MTT next - so close between the really big guns on GC going to be an important stage.

Early attacks on a mountain stage by a top rider seem to be a bit OP this year, but a good stage from Schleck aside from Alarcon - that bonus wipes out the prologue deficit, and hopefully he can build on it up Col du Lein.
Never good to see a favourite crash though.

Thanks for a well written report, roturn!
Just a class act from Alarcon, nice to see him do something like that against most of the best stage racers in the man-game.
A shame Gesink crashed. I doubt he would've lost contact with the elite group if it wasn't for the crash, and his team might have pulled back Alarcon as well, if they would have been able to work at the front of the peloton.
I'm satisfied with Spilak's performance, and a top 5 looks like a realistic goal now. It will be a very interesting mountain time trial. I remember Alarcon from Tachira last season, where he didn't really convince. Spilak might be able to gain some time on the brilliant climber, but on the other hand I expect him to loose time to Contador, Schleck and especially Pluchkin.
It's still everything to play for, just a shame Gesink looks to be out of the competition for the top spots. |

What a stage, crashing Gesing, inhuman Alarcon...and luckily decent Rujano. If he could sneak somehow into TOP10, I´d be very happy. I´m afraid how he´ll deal with hilly rated stages, though.

Great report to read. Real shame for Gesink, but what a ride from Alcaron. Will be interesting to see how he rides to defend the lead.
Denifl did well to make the top 12 selection, will be happy if he can hold on to that GC placing for the rest of the race. Exciting days ahead.

That went well
3 seconds will be tough to defend over Pluchkin with time bonuses more likely for the Moldovan. Spilak still a big danger too. But at least Andy has the leaders jersey, which should be quite helpful.

That was meh.
Definitely lost too much time on guys like Rujano.
So to get that desired 10th place, we need to get rid of Alarcon, and actually going with the right attack is a must now after like 10 fails already this season.

Spilak lost less than expected, eventhough it was slightly surprising to see him beaten by Sella and Rujano. Though, he's closer than expected in the GC after these two mountain stages, and if he really makes use of his hill stat, he might stand a chance at the overall win now.
It would be brilliant if he could climb to a podium in the overall, but I'll certainly take a top 5 as well. After all, there's a couple of great GC-riders just behind. |

Maybe Gesink can still save something from this race with the points jersey
