Today was the last chance for the team to make a result,
Tony was not one of our big hopes, he finished 121th at 1’43” from Gustavo Cesar Velasco (OFM – Quita de Lixa).
Michaël, who had a great Time Trial in “Etoile le Bèsseges”, had a hard day, he ended 64th at 1’12”.
Rein Taaramäe was our biggest hope for this Time Trial. He finished the stage at the 23th place. We cannot blame him, it was his first race of the season and his form was not at its best. He finished 11th of the General Ranking won by Lars Boom (Blanco).
Even with his NC shirt, Taaramäe did not have the energy to be the best today

Now that “Volta ao Algarve” is over, its time to make a sum up of Mickaël and Tony performances during this race.
Tony was here as a helper, he did his job fine and he even tried to be in a breakaway. After that race the manager told me to train Tony to be the lead sprinter in “GP Ville de Lillers – Souvenir Bruno Comini”. To prepare this race Tony will ride with Mickaël “Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne” and “Le Samyn”.
Mickaël was a fighter during this race he tried a lot to be at the front. He showed us his implication in his work and his riding. He was expecting a better result in the Time Trial but the weather was really bad and he simply does not have the legs for long distance Time trial right now. As for his future, Mickaël will have his first pro cobbled race in “Omloop Het Nieuwsblad”. He will be a free element because of Jan Ghyselinck who will be the leader. He will also be part of the team for “GP Ville de Lillers – Souvenir Bruno Comini” to help Tony in getting the best result possible.
Here are the Ranking from the race.

Tom Boonen and Fabian Cancellara’s teams worked hard during this race.
62km from the finish line, Peter Sagan (Cannondale), his team mate Fabio Sabatini and two Europcar riders (Damien Gaudin and Vincent Jérôme) attacked. 10km after, Cancellara had a puncture. Thanks to the slow pace of the pack, he join it easily.
Before the last cobble sector, Cancellara attacked, Boonen was leading the chase.
After the last sector, Mickaël was very tired, he gave everything to stay in touch with the back of the group but he failed. Jan was the last rider of the team in the leading group. This group soon joined Sagan’s one and Cancellara. In the end Cancellara win the sprint and Jan ended last of the group. Mickaël finished 26th. This is a pretty good result regarding the name behind him (Boasson Haggen, Thor Hushovd, Matti Breschel …).
Jesleyh: it's not Paris - Roubaix, the team did not ask a wild card for any of the WT cobbled classics (the squad is too weak and I prefer to focus on race in which I can have some result). The race is Omloop Het Nieuwblad in Belgium (categorize 1.HC) but 26th he's still a good result.
And I don't mind giving you the stats, I was just waiting someone asked me
The second cobbled classics of the season, the race is most likely made for sprinters who can survive cobbled.
After the 4°C of yesterday's race, today the temperature is 1°C up. After the third cobble sector, the pack spilt in three part, the strategy of the team today was be at the front so we none of our rider has been tricked.
With Cancellara (Radioshack), Vanmarcke (Blanco)and Thomas (Sky) blocked in the second pack and Chavanel (OPQS) and Hushovd (BMC) in the thrid pack, Romain Zingle decided to work for his leaders. Of course the other group joined the pack but some leaders were isolated so they had to do the work themselves.
Cancellara tried to distance the other by an impressive Acceleration in the last sector, but he did not make it.
At 30km from the line, Flecha (Vacansoleil) tried to attacked but without success.
At 20km from the line, Flecha(again) with Boonen (OPQS) and Vanmarcke escape from the group. Cancellara joined them, Mickaël and Jan both followed the Swiss Machine but because of too many opponent for the victory, the entente in the group was really bad, Mickaël decided to work for Jan but the pack had already joined them.
At 10 km from the line there was no one in front, Jan and Mickaël decided to help Adrien to be well positioned for the sprint which was coming. In the end Daniel Oss was the best. Adrien made a pretty good sprint, he finished 5th. Jan and Mickaël worked a lot for Adrien, they are 30th and 31th.
Tony's job today was to protect Adrien as far as possible, he arrived in the 3rd group 3min later.
And I don't mind giving you the stats, I was just waiting someone asked me
Oops. Meant Omloop obviously
Petit was great at RvV, uhh I mean Kuurne Edited by Jesleyh on 19-04-2013 16:53
Today was the third and last cobbled race of February, 5°C outside. The riders were quit nervous about the finish because of the rain.
As expected, some riders tried to attack to show the shirt, but our team did not really care about them. Our riders stayed in the warm of the pack all the race. At 15 km from the finish line, Jan tried to finish the race alone and he attacked just before the last cobbled sector. Unfortunately, he did not manage to go very far so he decided to lead the pack for a while.
The sprint was launch far from the line, Adrien took the wrong wheel and ended 11th (not bad). Mickaël, usually not good in sprint, really like the cold temperature. He decided to take the wheel of Adrien in order to test himself. He ended 19th. Today’s winner is Borut Bozic (Astana).
After the three cobbled races Mickaël took part, I decided to talk with him about his future. But first, here is the interview he had for the team’s website.
Hello Mickaël, this week you were in three races that suit you the most, what can you tell us about your impression?
Well it was very impressive to ride with all these cyclists, some of them are already part of the legend!
During the Omloop, we saw you chatting with Peter Sagan (Cannondale), what did you talk about?
Peter is perhaps a showman, he may likes to show he is the best but he was not here to frightened me, he was just welcoming me in the pack and he told me good luck for my future. It may be impossible but it’s true.
Now let’s talk about your results, 26th in the Omloop you missed just 50 meters to stay with the leading group.
Perhaps I was closed to the other group, but on cobblestones, when you can’t follow a group, you know it’s hard to join them back. I was also not in top of my form and I’m really proud of my 26th place.
And the 19th place in Le Samyn was quite unexpected. I think that you will become a great cobbled racer. Good luck for your future in the team
Thanks a lot and I know one day I will beat Cancellara on the velodrome (laughs).
Mickaël is a talented guy, there is no doubt about this but I think that it’s not in a team like “Cofidis” that he will have the possibilities to exploit all his potential.
About Tony now, he is ready for his first race as lead sprinter. The report will arrive soon.
Race Report : GP Ville de Lillers - Souvenir Bruno Comini
Today was the first day where Tony was the team’s lead sprinter. Before the race I talked with Tony about the finish, a very dangerous one. I advised him to be in front of the pack when the final come just to avoid a fall.
Thanks to Florent Barle who managed to be in the breakaway, the team did not have to work today.
At 15km from the finish, Jan Ghyselinck decided as always to finished the race alone, the others team did not seem ok with that and they get him back in the pack after 8km of solo riding.
Mickaël started the train for Tony, But Julien Fouchard launched the sprint a bit too early.
In the end Tony finished 7th and the race was win by Alexandre Pichot (Europcar)
