Npass,
thanks for the advice - I put a UK credit card on the PSN account as I hold dual citizenship and bank accounts, despite living in the USA. I thought I'd found a loophole but I guess not. So, I think your larger point on when it might actually be released is the bigger deal breaker. I will take your advice and look for an online vendor. I was under the impression that PS3 games were region specific like Xbox 360 games or especially DVDs - shows how much I know!

Ugh, amazon.co.uk doesn't ship PS3 games to the USA. Go figure.
Where did you get yours, Npass?

Disregard - I found it at Play-Asia.com. Pricey but available, at least.

I got mine from sendit.com I looked at Play-Asia, but it would have been a little more expensive than the european sites. I'm glad I could give you help. I'm usually the one scouring to find help for an issue that I'm having. I'm just excited to be getting the game. I do like last years game, especially after the patch that allowed you to switch riders between segments. My hope is eventually that they will add more races to the game. Maybe not a PCM type, but just more of a season mode maybe. As far as the region specific part of PS3... the games are not region locked, but the blu-ray movies can be. (Most but not all) |

PSN Downloadable version for PS3 is not yet approved, hopefully it will be before the end of the month but as npass43 says, if you really want to play NOW you are better off buying a physical copy and importing it, even with the shipping, you will probably get your copy before the PSN version comes out.
As far as region locks etc, the game is not locked to any territory, however, SONY has different branches (Sony Europe, Sony America and Sony Asia at least) and you have to pass specific approval process for each territory if you want to sell the game over there, which is really pain in the ass because Americans (at least at Sony) dont give a **** about cycling and they doesn't allow us to release the game. So your only choice is to import the game from Europe, the only territory where it is actually released.
And for the digital version, unlike microsoft where it's automatic (you submit the physical version and they take care of the download version automatically) for Sony you have to create a specific version and submit it in a separate process, that takes time so that's why it will arrive only towards the end of the month.
I hope this has cleared out some doubts for you. |

Thanks aroda for all that you guys do! I assure you that there are a few of us Americans who not only love cycling, but will continue to buy and support your products. I will keep spending my American dollars as long as you guys keep making games and keep improving them every year! I have loved cycling for a long time, and wasn't even aware cycling games existed until about 2009. Since then I have bought PCM 2009-2012 and the TDF Xbox Live Arcade game, and both full console games. My only hope is that you guys can eventually get to the point where you can release a more expanded version on the consoles or even more DLC to include more races! Thanks again! |

I agree. I always wondered why they didn't make a video game about cycling. They I'd realized they'd had one for 10 freakin years. Some of us love it, some hate it. Most don't know it exists.

In the end I found it on Play-Asia.com for about $70 (Bucks!) including 4-day Fed-Ex shipping. It was very clear about it being the EU game, with English language and non-region locked. Supposedly there are less than a half-dozen region locked PS3 games so far. I ordered it last night and just got a call from FedEx confirming it will be delivered before noon tomorrow, US East Coast. That's 36hr shipping from Hong Kong for about 12 dollars. Not bad.
It's a bit pricey but if you're looking to get it and apparently quickly from a reliable seller then it might be a good place to look. Of course, I'm assuming it'll work, which is usually a dismally poor idea

Quick update on the tour - still a lot of fun although after doggedly holding the yellow jersey through most of the mountains on stage 18 (in the game out of 21 including the prologe) the long day of climbing and mountains finally told.
Wiggins was holding on until the last ten km and then cracked after a Schleck attack up to a Sanchez and Rolland attack that had gone ahead one mountain before. Without teamates I followed at a steady pace getting the chasing group down to me and Evans. Evans fell behind but then found a turn of speed to get ahead. Schleck burnt off Sanchez (54 seconds) and Evans (22 seconds) on the final part of the climg with Wiggins forth 1.01 behind.
Evans leads by 5 seconds from Schleck, with Wiggins 35 seconds back. So it will all come down to the final time trial. |

9-Ball, next time you're looking you should just check eBay for UK store outlets. They don't care where they ship to, and it usually costs less than Play-Asia (although exchange rate won't help).
PS3 is almost entirely region-free, it's Xbox that's a pain. But even then you can get around it even for future downloadable content as others explain; I've just managed it for an AFL game.
Can I ask does the 2012 game provide solely the Tour de France route? I noticed suggestions that other races would be added?
I bought 2011, played it twice and then it went to the bottom of the drawer. I love the tactics of cycling, and the previous game offered nothing. It sounds like this version is better. |

I noticed the 2011 game had some DLC, the Criterium (5 Bucks!), for example. I imagine 2012 would do too. The comments here suggest the new game is noticeably better than 2011 but I won't get to test it till tomorrow night.
Thanks for the shopping tip. If there's a next time I'll look there.

Interesting insight
Normally XBOX wasn't interested in cycling even in the Armstrong active days as the Tour de France 2003 game was only released for Sonys PS2 after the first one 2002.
I think here was a news about the TdF 2012 game, that Paris-Nice will be added as a DLC..

Does anyone know if there is possible to play online on tour de france 2012? And if so, is it any good?

There's a 1 vs 1 mode. Haven't seen any feedback on it, though. |

I guess for me, I just prefer the PCM style of game. And as CrueTrue wrote, the console games are completely different to PCM. As I mentioned to me the fun part is the tactics of the whole season, riding the classics, prep before Grand Tours, then the tactics each day of the race. 2011 version not being able to switch riders was just dire - if you're a GC rider or sprinter, the sprint stages or high mountains were tedious. They've improved that part, but I guess what I'd really like is an arcade game version of PCM, where it's the PCM season and roster strategy, full career mode, but then in the races it's console/arcade action.
I might just skip this year's and wait to see what 2013 version is like.
Also I wonder if price drop will happen again - game was £45 at release last year and was £18 by mid-August. |

Absolutely they're different. I think in terms of the in stage tactics this year's console game is a lot better and you can see the game making logical moves with the other riders and results are fairly true to life. But by necessity it is simpler. I don't really have the time to invest in PCM so this is a good compromise.
I'm really looking forward to the DLC now for my return from holiday. Paris Nice would be good and I think I saw they were looking at releasing one other stage race.
And in advance of going on holiday I did the final time trial this morning. I pretty much made no mistakes round the corners kept the tempo high, relaxed at mid way to leave some energy for the final couple of short but sharp climbs at the end and sprinted in the right places - now I know you can hold the A button after getting your tempo right it was a lot easier but still a challenge to do perfectly first time out. Wiggins won by 1'47 from Martin. Evans was 3'22 back so Wiggins takes the yellow back at the last opportunity. Froome was back in the 30th! I'm just going to roll into Paris before packing. Incredibly fun gaming experience over the last week or so.

No doubt that PCM is better but I can see where eventually the console game will be better than PCM it just won't happen until we hit PS4.
The reasoning? Eventually consols will catch-up to PCs in terms of memory and prcoessing speed and the console game will be much easier to play although I will say my hand does get tired from holding down the x button on PS3.
Also the time trialing is a bit rough withpushing L1 R1, X, as well as having to slow down/brake. I'm still learning how to corner.
The game has massive potential and I'd imagine with each successive version cyanide will streamline the game and add features and I'd imagine that the console version will get to the PC level. |

Few more observations.
- There is a bug around the food. If you use it all in one section and then change riders for the next section you have all of it back. Don't think that is by design!
You misunderstand this system this is for the rider your riding ONLY not for the hole Team ..
Or else you wouldnt have any change to control who need what .. try play with a rider on the first section give him like 1 Abricot and one of the reds Energy gel -
Next Section use another rider and dont give him anything and 3 section go back to your rider on the first section you will see all those things you use on him 1st section is still gone. |
