Sky Development Team
Progress Report - First Quarter
Rod Ellingworth

It has to be said that the team's start has been promising as there have been few organisational difficulties despite the inexperience. Most, if not all, riders have taken to the team ethos and really got down to the hard work required to perform at this level. The togetherness displayed by all the lads is magnificent, partly due to the fact that they all know they have to work hard as a team if they want a future in the sport.
In terms of training, American Maxime Oget has been showing remarkable improvements already over the cobbles. Very few of the other guys can keep up with him when he's going flat out. I believe we could have an American Cancellara on our hands! Gilbert is performing similarly but then again, with a name like that, it's not surprising really. Other riders who I believe to be training well are Thompson, Fischer and Bakker.
The races have been hit and miss for the lads so far with great performances mixed in with some absolute shockers but inconsistency is to be expected early on. South Africa was a decent start with Oget being very active and managing to win the King of the Mountains classification. All of the team have been performing well in support of their leader, demonstrated brilliantly at the Istrian Spring Trophy, where the whole team buried themselves in support of Kim, who was very, very unlucky not to take the overall win.
Our one visible weakness is in the final few kilometres of flat stages where we just don't have the rouleurs to keep the sprinters near the front and able to challenge. Unfortunately, this was clearly seen in the recent Tour de Normandie where the lads were brutally out of their depth against the might of Cofidis, Europcar and Endura. Nevertheless, the domestic season isn't far away and hopefully, the team will be able to show well on home soil. Rod
Recommendations: None currently. Too early, not enough races.
Team Victories - 2
Kim Yoo-Suk | | 1 Stage - Istrian Spring Trophy | Maxime Oget | | KoM Tour of South Africa |
Performance of the quarter: Pretty easy decision. It goes to Kim Yoo Suk for outclimbing Dombrowski in Croatia and being cheated of the victory! |

If Bracco doesn't improve soon, he'll be sleeping with the fishes. |

@Jesley, thanks. Yep, he needs to get in the wind tunnel!
@Abelbaba, as far as I'm aware, you haven't improved at all. You had 70 DH at the start.
@Ian Butler, I know, I'm just about to go and prod him with a large stick to get off the sofa!
@Ollfardh, it is indeed, but it's weird how Oget has improved on two separate occasions and most of the others haven't gone up once in anything. Is it random how fast they improve? Either way Maxime drew the long straw! |

@Brewers Well, there is a table in the Db for that. Probably Oget got 5(/5), which means that there are a lot of improving moments. Some of the others have 1 or 2(/5), and that means that they don't have many improving moments, but the ones that they have will make them improve the equal of the total result of Oget's many improvements...
No need to edit anything of that though, if they all have (nearly) the same levels of trainers, they develop as fast as Oget does I think

Brewers, will you also give notifications about transfer rumours regarding the team? I think Oget and Thompson might be contacted soon

Well, only 3 contracts are ending this year, so who says that Oget en Thomson are one of the 3 guys?

A disappointing debut stage race for Jones. He really wasn't enjying it especially atthe end with his poor recovery. He still has alot to learn bout stage racing, maybe he'll just stick to the shorter ones.

Race Preview
Le Triptyque des Monts et Chateaux
The team now heads back to Belgium and back to the pavé! This race has a very long name but a not particularly long route. The opening stage is the longest of the race at 175km and contains a few short cobbled sections and some short, sharp climbs in the first half. Then there is a short time trial and a short, flat road stage which will almost certainly finish in a bunch sprint. The race finishes with a tough stage typical of the region. Lots of short, steep hills, including two ascents of a tough cobbled climb which should sort the men from the boys.
Gilbert will be hoping to perform well on home soil and on roads that he likes. Oget and Huigsloot also like a good cobbled section and Abel will be the team's sprinter on stage three aswell. Both Fischer and Jaquin will be hoping to make the most of the hills but Jaquin's poor shape means he will just be a domestique here. Hoogenboom will try to improve on his ninth place in the time trial in Normandie, while Johansson and Van Niekerk will just be trying to cope as best they can with the unfavourable terrain. |

Oget and Gilbert can ride a good GC here, if the cobbles leave some gaps...
Me? I will Top 10 the prologue, or at least I try...
