A very interesting race, with very good reports. While I was not racing this, it was very interesting to follow. Congratulations to Wikipedia with the overall. You were smart not to sell Phinney to me when I tried to get him.

Thanks to all for the kind words about my reporting. Always makes it easier to write the next one when you know they are being read and enjoyed!

One last Giro report to write ... the Rankings update!

Wikipedia finally have a Grand Tour victory - much deserved, with this being their 13th Grand Tour! It takes them right to the top of the standings, despite Koenigsegg enjoying a successful race.

Milka and Simply Red Bull remain well placed, while both Aker and Vesuvio move up thanks to their GC and Sprint exploits respectively. Pokerstars and Wiggle find themselves slipping in the opposite direction.

Puma, Festina and UBS all raced well but still find themselves outside the Top 10.

Heineken and Lotto had a stage win each, B&O claimed 10th in GC, while Pendleton's were 2nd on the Teams Classification with 2 in the Top 17. But all remain in the 4 way battle for that final relegation spot.

Bacardi catch up a little - but still not by enough - and while Santander remain bottom, they more than doubled their total points score for the season.

Well, after all, this battle didn't deserve any other result than a draw.
Congratulations Vesuvio Smile

Congratulations as well to Wikipedia, and commiserations to Santander for missing out so close.

A big thank you to SN for the stunning reports throughout the whole race.

At first, goal failed not too hard! Pfft

4 stage wins is right in the middle of the range I expected, so especially keeping in mind the failures of TA and Qatar and the imponderables of a GT, that was not too shabby.
Winning multiple stages and even wearing the leader's jersey in the GT premiere is definitely a rare achievement, though it was to be expected with our line-up.

Still, I feel like the national bonus didn't help us a lot, and daily form certainly not as well. Those bad sprints will surely haunt my dreams when we are in the closing stages of the season.

That said, I need to examine the rankings update to exactly tell how I liked our very first Grand Tour. Grin

And for everyone who is interested, I combined the scores from the race clash Giro/Cali.

Due to some teams having more of a focus on one race obviously, I think that helps estimating how to evaluate the new rankings and the overall performance of all teams.

The Giro was nice! Great reporting all the way through!

Swift-Bennati 4-4 in the end is fair. None actually seemed stronger as the other. Bennati probably lost the 2nd place on the stage were he started his sprint way to early. Something Van Heerden is becoming REALLY good at. Pfft

Surprised to see promoting squads Red Bull and Aker being so high. Though it's still early, they are doing a good job staying away from the bottom places. One Madrazo race and Santander has closed the gap to the rest of the field. They should have no problem moving further up from now on. Bacardi on the other seem to be in some trouble after a dissapointing performance by Ricco

Once again, thanks for brilliant reports all the way through, SN.

That was a great race for us, eventhough we didn't win a stage. Spilak was all in all at his very best, and a podium in our first Grand Tour feels good. Especially when I had a podium in the Giro d'Italia as a goal. Augustyn's racing was also nice to watch, especially on the Zoncolan stage, where he positioned Spilak perfectly, judging by the pictures.

Big congratulations to dave92! That was a massive win, and a great one in terms of ranking points as well. It will be very interesting to see where Phinney lines up in the coming races, after this Grand Tour win, and beating Madrazo, it opens up for many to try to push last year's winner of the individual ranking down a step or two or five.

Seeing our own points from the race I'm without any doubt satisfied. It gives us a much needed gap down to many teams with the Vuelta a España and Tour de France coming up, where I don't expect us to bring home any big points.

The battle for the overall win in the Pro Tour will be a nice one to follow. Both Pearl Adidas and Vesuvio look strong, but Wikipedia's and Koenigsegg's gap might be a tough one to close.

Kudos to Wikipedia for the win. Good work taking the crown from the Italians. Cheers to SN as well for some splendid reporting, as always.

In the end came away with a good result with Trofimov holding on to a top 10 and scoring stage wins along with a day in the pink jersey.

Was a bit amusing seeing Meyer contesting the sprint in the last stage and just going backwards despite having the best lead out. Although in fairness, was even surprised to see him up there in the first place.

Fantastic to finally see a GT win and especially from an American. I truly did not see Phinney being able to topple Madrazo and figured his chances of winning were gone when Madrazo turned up on the startlist.

The points jersey was something I had my eye on once I saw Phinney attentive and towards the front in the early stages.

The team rode fantastically considering 8 of the 9 can be found in the young riders' classification. Bright futures there.

I really appreciate all the congratulations from all of you great managers.

Congratulations Dave.

And thanks SN. Those were consistently some of the best reports I have ever read in this game. Thank you for them and your dedication to this game in general.

Although I feel like I'm repeating everyone already...

Thanks SN for the amazing reports and congrats Dave - Very cool to see an American team and rider win a GT. Enjoyed all the action from a neutral perspective. Grin

I'm happier with a stage win than i am with Eastman's 13th weirdly. Coming out of the Giro still out of the relegation zone is good.

Wow, what a thrilling finale there. Serious congratulations to Dave and Wikipedia, I thought Madrazo would have had it for sure. Great race through and through, very entertaining. Thanks for the hard work SN.

As for UBS, I'm really bummed with our performance. Nibali should have podiumed, or at least won a stage. Richeze was hit or miss in the sprints, usually miss. We were active in quite a few breakaways, but they rarely succeeded, and when they did we didn't win. Riblon almost got the KoM jersey, but chose not to defend his lead. We pretty much came up with a slew of average top 10 results, and came out with an average amount of points when we should have been protagonists (in my opinion). Anyway, onto the Vuelta!

By the way, that's crazy that we're exactly tied with Festina, what are the chances

So the Giro is over and it was agreat race all the was, large part of that was amazing reports and insane level of dedication to the game from SN, big congrats for this! Smile

Swift rewarded him with 4 stage wins, nice battle that was with Bennati.

Still biggest congrats go to Wikipedia and Phinney, thrilling battle till the last metres of Zoncolan and beyond, i suppose pink jersey confidence was the key to the success. Madrazo was clearly the best climber, but he was not attentive enough at all times (Gavia stage especially).

Overall great race for me as the spectator, i can only imagine how nervous the actual GT teams managers can be. Grin
I'll be back

Awesome race to follow, especially as there were all kinds of stage victories. Sprint battle between Bennati and Swift, Sella's epic ride, Madrazo in the third week, a break away now and then, Trofimov and of course Phinney.

Thanks for the great reports Smile

Congratulations to dave for Phinneys Giro win plus the points and young rider classification.

I am happy that my team managed to get a stage win with Claeys and a stage podium position with Ciolek. A bit disappointed that Lloret just missed out the Top 20.

I am a bit worried about the rankings slipping now to 15th (with being just some points away from 17th) even though Cunego has some races left.
So I hope for a better Vuelta as I have send there a better team hoping that De la Fuente will finish higher than Lloret in the general classification.

First off, it was a really good Giro to watch with a excellent bunch of reports. The moments of drama were clear and despite the heavy amount of TTing it made for a great race. Thank you SN.

Certainly the route design had a massive impact and big props also to Dave and mb for sending their big guns here instead of more guaranteed points. In the case of Phinney it was the right move, for Madrazo perhaps the intelligent move would have been to go for the Vuelta instead but this way has led to much more interesting racing.

There is the feeling of relief in the SRB camp, with Sella's brave Gavia win along with Viviani's breakaway win giving us plenty to cheer about. Van Heerden's sprinting got stupid by the end of the race - I feel as if we were 100 or so points off where I thought we could have been but as accumulate this with a superb California race I certainly cannot complain.

Looking at the ranking position, I would say already Venchi are doomed to relegation, no surprises there though this Giro which they probably had expectations for was a complete disaster. Santander and Bacardi have improved their position but not to the degree that they would have wanted to - they really need a big Grand Tour from their leaders. Ricco at the Vuelta is surely key for Bacardi.

I notice Wiggle and Lotto have really slipped down the rankings also, victims perhaps of 'poor' AI on Hilly stages. It doesn't bode well for the chances of Ricco/Schleck in the Vuelta though Trofimov did okay in this Giro.

Should change quite a lot after the Vuelta though.

Big congrats to dave and again big thanks to SN for the reports. Interesting race, especially as I was sure Madrazo's win was a done deal. 2nd in the team classification did give me some consolatory points but the winds are going to have to change if we are to stay up.

Thanks for the fantastic reports SN, I really enjoyed this race up to the last minute. Smile
