Well Eddie gave his all today and hopefully it showed as he was last caught.

Cruel as today was, these things do happen sometimes and he's not too down in the dumps about it, just happy he got a chance to stand out as a protagonist today Wink

Race Report
Tour de Normandie Stage 6

Not much to say about this, another flat stage although this one is, at nearly 200km, the longest stage of the race. No categorised climbs at all so this is pure sprinter territory, again.

Fifth road stage, fifth member of the team in a breakaway. Today, it was British time triallist Bakker who escaped up the road with four other riders. With it being completely flat, Bakker certainly had a good opportunity to show the world his ability as a rouleur. The gap reached a maximum of eight minutes with ninety kilometres to go but, as you would expect, the group never really stood a chance.

But with forty kilometres to go, the breakaway was still refusing to be caught, as all five members were working really hard together. This forced more teams to come to the front to help out Cofidis and the pace shot up. It was, of course, raining heavily again today, and a few riders hit the deck. Fortunately, Sky's riders stayed safe.

It was an even closer one than yesterday's stage, as the final breakaway rider, Olejnik, was caught with just under five kilometres to go. For once, Sky were actually dealing with the pace and had a decent leadout train going on the left hand side of the peloton. Thompson did a fantastic pull but, unfortunately, Gilbert and Hoogenboom just couldn't maintain the speed and the leadout broke down.

It wasn't to be for Cofidis today as Pelucchi took his second win following a great leadout by Arashiro. Petit was second with Poulhies, Drujon and Pichot completing the top five. Hammarling just had to come from too far back but at least got back into the top twenty in sixteenth. A better day for the team but that top ten remains elusive in these incredibly tough sprints.

@Jesley, I don't really understand why Gilbert and Hoogenboom struggled so much if I'm honest. They're both good enough to do the leadout but obviously this race has just been too hard for them.

They just had a bad day, and maybe recovery problems, I guess..
Anyway, I think with a bit of training(development Wink), it can be fixed. We will be way better in a few months anyway Grin

Btw I hope all those Climbers/stage-racers don't all develop the same way. They're all very similair now...

Race Report
Tour de Normandie Stage 7

The penultimate stage is very similar to all of the others, flat. Not the most exciting race this one...

A massive group of ten was surprisingly allowed today, although one of the riders was Quemeneur of Europcar, which meant they were happy to let the group go. For Sky, it was Hoogenboom getting another go at trying to stay away. They really struggled to pull out a gap despite the high numbers and the maximum advantage they got was five and a half minutes.

As usual, Saur and Cofidis were on the front, along with Auber 93, who were obviously feeling confident about Drujon today. There wasn't too much fuss as the breakaway knew what was going to happen and didn't even put up a fight. It's just not possible for a break to succeed here unfortunately.

It was an incredibly close finish today with Drujon rewarding his team's faith by narrowly beating Pelucchi, Poulhies, Mandri, Dumoulin, Zabel and Petit to take the win. Once again, Sky faded towards the end and Hammarling could only manage 26th. Jones couldn't hang on to the peloton at the end and lost more time to just about complete what has been a miserable race for the Brit.

Race Report
Tour de Normandie Stage 8

Finally, we come to the final stage here in wet, miserable Northern France. A fairly short stage with a bit of climbing to be dealt with, this may just end in a sprint. But that's just a bold prediction.

Plan Z was in use for the Sky Development Team today, which was to get two riders into the break. Thompson was the first to attack on the stage, in the first kilometre, and he was later joined by five other riders. When the break had settled, Huigsloot rode across the gap on his own. These seven riders built up a lead of seven minutes on the peloton.

Eventually, Huigsloot was the last rider to be caught, just seven kilometres from the end, which really summed up this race for the team. It goes without saying that the rest of the team were exhausted and Hammarling had no chance against all of these great sprinters.

It was Duque's turn to win today, meaning Cofidis have had three different stage winners here. Poulhies was second ahead of Petit, who wrapped up the overall classification. Europcar had six riders in the top fifteen whilst Sky couldn't even get one in the top thirty again, Hammarling the best in 33rd. In the GC, Huigsloot was our highest finisher in a lowly 39th. And just to finish it all off, Thompson missed out on the KoM by one point. We all need to go home!

Great to see a colombian sprinter!
The team will have to work in camps or something to improve a lot in our weak points...

It'll be good to see some trainning camps for our riders...

First of all, the race has finished (finally!!) so don't worry.

And I don't do training camps, sorry, we just have to hope that the riders improve quicker. Wink
