Got 2nd in Cat 3,

67 mile road race today. US Junior 17-18 Road Race Championships. The Course was almost all hills, either up, or down. I was there for teammates, in case of flat or crash. race was 4 laps of an 18 mile circuit plus the ride to the start finish. Lots of crashes in the first lap and in the begining of the 2nd I got hit by a powertap computer. There was a 300 meter section of 10% then a mile or so of false flat, which is were I popped off. Finished and my back and legs cramped imediatley. I bonked in the last 10 K. My teammates got 6th and 11th. I was 22 minutes down. Met Shifty briefly about 10 k in. The first lap was crazy fast, doing 18 miles in less than 40 minutes.

Rjc: Results aren't online yet and I didn't take the time after the race to wait for them to be posted. I was disapointed that USA cycling didn't do random drug tests, if they had I would have had a slim chance to actually get tested. USADA only did the top 3.
The races have been brutal. and Deadpool, my teammate finished 4th in the 15-16, another finished 12th in the 10-12, and another finish 5th in the 15-16 womens.
There is an outside chance I was top 75, out of 120, which would be really cool, seeing as I can't climb for shit.

Haha, I know that feeling - not being able to climb for shit
Well, you've achieved more than I ever have - finishing a national Junior event in any country...

Out of the two "teammates" one, the guy who got third, is actually a teammate. The other, the guy who got second, is a former teammate whose Dad is the team's manager. He's a Cat.1 whose trying to get onto the Felt-Holoweslko Partners U23 team next year and needed a year of riding for the Kelly Benefit Elite team on his resume. He still does my teams Junior rides and essentially rides as a teammate. |

OK so results are up. I was 83rd. Shifty either DNF'ed or was inside the top 50, depending on last name.

240$ they start out at 190 but after a certain amount of customization they get more expensive. I got the lenses etched with my name, which adds a lot.

I did a new pb for 10 miles last night. 22.11 on a pretty slow course which is only used for club events. I was first out of 50 riders and beat a guy who has done a 52 minute 25 this season by 1 second

Did the nationals crit. I got a shitty starting position 2nd to last row, in a field of 110. I made it 30 k's before being pulled out by race refs. For a crit that would seem fairly simple it was hard as hell. I spent the first ten laps sifting through riders who couldn't hack it while there were non stop attacks. It eased up for maybe one lap, then it was back to balls out business as usual. I was popped off the back about 25 ks in, and was pulled out by race refs 5 laps later. I was credited with finishing 66th having made it as far as I did. The guy who won also took the Road race.
it was the effing hardest race I can remember doing.

3rd in the Cat 3's at the State RR this weekend.
12th overall in the Cat 1,2,3 race.
A break of 7 Cat 1's was up the road, and there were a few guys that wanted to wake up on the last of 27 mile loop. They gunned it in the cross-winds and I was one of 5 Cat 3's to make the split of 10 guys. We never caught the break, but sprinted for 3rd after 110 miles/170km. Longest race ever..
Should have enough points for my Cat 2 upgrade! |

Just got back from nats, saw Levi at all of my worst moments, caught behind 2 crashes in the neutralized section of the RR and chased back on for ~8miles, saw Levi right as i got back on, felt decent in the RR but it was hilly enough it ended up being a lot of drop then chase then drop, coach told me to pull out to save my legs for the TT the next day after two laps so i did.
TT was my event, i was hoping to do a top 20 there (fields were over 100 for everything) and i had a great warm up and everything felt stellar, i got going and felt pretty darn slow even for an uphill first section, then i got caught by my 30sec man after 1k! and by the 1min man at 5k! I realized i was not losing this much time without some big problem i had overlooked since the start, after i stopped hammer for a second and thought clearly i checked my wheels, disc looks fine, breaks aren't rubbing, tri-spoke looks... god damnit..... Flat front tire. So that was the end of my TT, followed by WALKING 5k back to the team vehicles because there was no support on course, ruined my new Look Cleats in the process.
Crit was just an Ugly story all around, got a little better staging spot than Levi but was still only 4 rows or so from the back (they staged like 20min before the start for some reason, talk about wasting a warmup by sitting for that long) and it was fast from the start, the first half averaged ~30mph with some decent wind on the course i got dropped pretty hard after 10 laps or so and got pulled, went behind the start finish line stage and turn around to see to my great amazement one of the 5280 (Garmin Slipstream's Junior team) guys got pulled right when i did too. even Justin Williams got lapped.
Rough racing, i think working so hard to put on superweek the whole month of July pretty much killed any hope i had at a result at nationals but it was a good time, stayed in a nice resort town with the team and blew a lotta cash on stupid things I'm looking to come back next year for a result. watch out Bend 2010!
P.S. it was 100F+ in the sun every day there. i think the U23 men's race was cut short because it was too hot.

The road race sucked, all I managed to do was pull back a promising break, the it was into survival mode.
Today was a crit which went much better. The course was .52 miles, 4 corners. It is one of those races were if it isn't strung out then it isn't safe. a lap in 5 guys got off the front, includig my teammate, that lasted maybe 10 laps, with my other teammate covering moves off the front. As the break was caught I attacked, and brought two guys with me, both of whom were in the origional break my teammate included, when I pulled off to let the next guy through the pack caught us, ony half a lap later, so I went again, got a gap, maxxed it at 8 seconds, stuck it for 6 laps, got caught when my other teammate countered. I drifted back to about halfway in the pack, there were probably 10 juniors total (Cat 3 race) six from other teams who took over from my team in attacking for till about 5 to go. I was about 2/3rds of the way back and moved up as guys couldn't hack it, around the firt corner last lap my teammate was second wheel and was swamped finishing like 15th. I was proably 30 somthing. 3rd from my team, and one teammate crashed last corner last lap, dnfing.
It was the most fun I've had in a while and we put on a show.
