No, the narrow road did, as it always does.
They had to go single file, there was no width for more. And in that, gaps appear wherever there's a domestique who has no more legs and leaves a gap.

If they let this go they have no one to blame but themselves. I don't understand how such powerful team could possibly let a group of 3 outsiders gain time on them.
