Intxausti found his strong climbing boots today. Great result.
The TT is hard to judge. Intxausti will make early gains on the weaker TTing rivals, but they may well get some of that back on the steep Angliru section.
No chance of Withdrawals in the TT, but I wonder if the Bola del Mundo stage will be hard enough to force a few more out, and give us less than 100 finishers?
Would be interesting also in future to see what Tenorio could do in the Vuelta if he was leading a team. A 7th place finish seems to be as good as you can expect for someone whose teammate is the race leader.

I don't think he could keep with Intxausti or Contador, but would probably compete with the rest in the mountains. Tenorio may well do very well tomorrow.

Keinath seems to have found his climbing legs a bit more now. Hopefully he can push on into the Top 20.

Another well played stage by Rohregger. If nothing bad happens, I will be really delighted with his overall 18th place.
Anyway, the next stage, it's time trial time. I am looking forward to see what can Coppel do in that flat/mountain course as he is still in the race. Probably not much, though.

Tenorio shows that he isn't quite leader standard this year. Madrazo shows that he very much is, that was amazing.
Leading the team competition by an hour is also nice.

Sort of what I expected. A nice 2 minute cushion on 4th.

Another good 2nd from Contador. Nothing really to get from this race. Madrazo is just a monster. Hopefully I can keep off Intxausti on the final mountainstage, and hopefully every leader will stay on their bikes. My heart is still up in the throat.

Gomez Marchante looked good early in the race, but now he is kind of falling apart. Doesn't seem to help that he can't position himself well for the climbs. This has been a disappointing Vuelta overall for me, but it is still pretty exciting, especially with Contador hanging up there with Madrazo on Stage 17.

Was looking forward to a stage win, but I guess not...
I just wish Popo doesn't crash in the Tour.

Nice reporting here over the last few stages, smowz. Thanks.
Abal's ability against the clock a bit meaningless there - though TT stat did definitely seem to benefit some riders.
The amount of withdrawals is getting a bit crazy as well and Madrazo looks to be the new Cunego.

Great, now only a break making it on stage 21 and everything will be complete. Due to Van Stayen being here, none of my riders gets in the breaks on the flat either.

Would have been a good stage for Morabito or Dees to join the attackers, but they seem to be working hard to keep Contador out of trouble, which is nice.
Only two stages left to survive. Can't wait till we cross the line in Madrid. It has been a marvellous race so far.

The wrong guy in the right break again. Still OK result, though. |

Nice victory, but massively stupid by Tenorio, he's been doing so well to not do something dumb, and it couldn't last.
Arroyo back to fitness and took his place as rider 2 I guess.
Oh well, can't complain too much. One stage to survive.
