The second cobbled classic this season starts in Western Flanders` city Kuurne goes to Bruxelles and back to Kuurne. The riders have to pass some hills, cobbles and might get problems with the heavy wind in general. As the cobbled parts are just a few the race can be won by less brilliant classic specialists.
Lasy year this race was one of the best, certainly for fans watching it on the tv, Ian Standard showed some class, and this year we will want to repeat ;ast year podium or even better.
Sky Team 2011
Juan Antonio Flecha Jeremy Hunt Kurt-Asle Arvesen Geraint Thomas Edvald Boasson Hagen Matthew Hayman Ian Stannard Christopher Sutton
We begin with almost the same squad like in the Omloop, we would want to achieve a podium place but today it might be harder than yesterday. As hagen form (72) is not very good, strong wind and high pace could tire him out. If that happend we might plan something for Flecha and Hunt. Rest of the riders will help put team as good as possible.
As it's not entirely dream race for only cooblestones specialist, we should expect mass sprint where the best sprinter with decent cobble abilities should win.
Different to Omloop Het Niuewsblad Vacansoleil is participating with their best squad. Devolder isn't really best sprinter, so it's gonna be intresting what they plan today.
Race will follow shortly.Edited by Alakagom on 26-02-2011 20:33
The hardest part is in the middle of the stage with some pavement and hills. The final kilometres are totally flat and could cause splits because of the heavy wind.
Start in the Kuurne.
For the first 25km surprisingly no attacks, but when we hit the first cobble sector, the first attackers are trying to get away.
The breakaway of the day is created. No important rider is here, the escapees build the gap of around five minutes at the mark of 115km to go.
Jeremy Hunt has an accident of the slippy cobbles and falls, fortunately for us he isn’t injured very much and can continue on.
At the 10km mark the breakaway us finally caught and sprinterts try to positon themselved for the sprint. The middle part of the coruse was slightly boring-ish and nothing interesting happened.
Cancellara tries an attack on the 10km mark immediately after the break is caught ? Will he get away?
The Spartacus attack looked very desperate and he was quickly caught, the sprint teams wouldn’t let anybody get away again, would they?
Next to go Leif Hoste, with 4.3km to go, it’s actually very similar to I terms to the finish where Flecha attacked yesterday, Quickstep with good sprint train for Bonnen on the left, but Geraint Thomas done a fine job on the right brining Hagen to the front. He is slightly tired and timing of the sprint will be crucial.
Haussler launches a very early sprint, our train looking very good, but the Quickstep train is a threat as well.
1.5km to go and Flecha launches Hagen for the sprint and actually Hagen is too tired to outsprint him, but Breschel out of nowhere accelerated strongly and looks to outsprint our two Sky riders.
Sky Team and myself would have never guessed it, will you? Flecha wins the mass sprint in the town of Kuurne. Hagen hangs on and takes second, Breschel looked strong but didn’t have the necessary finish today. Quickstep doing all the hard work today must be disappointed with only 4th for Bonnen. Also this is extrodinaty Hunt takes 5th, he showed some fighting skills and conquered pain, what a finish from him.

Would you believe it ? Flecha wins the first two cobbled classics of the seson in a row, great start for us.
I am thinking of changing to extreme now, just gonna wait till Paris-Nice and T-A to see what the results will be like.Edited by Alakagom on 26-02-2011 20:32
The Gran Premio di Lugano is a hilly one day road bicycle race held annually in Lugano, Switzerland. Record champion is the Italian Marco Vitali, who won it 3 times.

Last yeat winner Roberto Ferrari won't be here to defend his title, Cionie was our best placed rider on 16th and this year we will try to imporve that.
Sky Team 2011
Thomas Löfkvist Christian Knees Simon Gerrans Dario Cioni Peter Kennaugh Serge Pauwels Xavier Zandio Stephen Cummings
Our squad here looks super strong but it isn't really, Gerrans came here to imporve his fitness (67), same with Lofkvist (71), Knees has the best fitness (77), but as consequence we brought good squad to help out of three leaders, the race is gonna be tought and we need preserve every bit of energy possible. We still unsure wheter Gerrans should help out Lofkvist and Knees or rider as one of the leaders.
Quite a strong starting field here and many of those riders will be contenders for top 15 in the the Ardennes. Kolobnev in form should win this race, but we are not sure about his form yet, the winner may be suprising, but I guess we will see what will happen when we start racing, Cheerio.
The course goes over 5 laps of the smaller hills and then 5 times over the higher hills, where we expect many attacks. The course is quite tough, riders not in form will suffer a lot today.
The start is really tough, who are those American fans cheering for?
There were couple of unsuccessful attack on the small hills, but now when we are on the flat part the breakaway is stating to form.
They didn’t last for very long and were caught at 150km mark.
Lampre and Liquigas were doing very high pace today, both teams are feeling good about Nibali and Bertagnolli chances today.
At the beginning of the second hill three riders attacked, Pavel Brutt (Katusha), Francesco Failli (ISD), and Andrea Masciarelli (Acqua).
Knees tried few attacks on the hills but all were not successful.
21km to go and Liquigas was leading the peloton furiously, the breakaway had two minutes advantage and is looked that they could make it.
2km to the top of the hill and John Gadret attacks, this move is immediately followed by Riccó, Plaza and Lofkvist. Will they catch the break ?
5km to go and break looks to won the stage, though Masciarelli felled back on the decent, it would be sprint against Brut and Failli.
Pavel Brutt takes it, in the background John Gadret takes third follow by Riccó. Lofkvist gets 6th, slightly disappointing, but still good result with his fitness. Knees also on 15th is good result with him in the mass sprint. But in the end Brrrr takes it

The first and only mountain stage in this tour ended with Vinokourov dominance, if nothing ridiculous happen Vinokourov should take his first overall victory of the season here.
2. Stage:
1. Robert Hunter (Shack) 3h43’28”
2. Tom Veelers (Shimano) +0”
3. Kenny Van Hummel (Shimano) +0”
Robert Hunter was triumphant in the mass sprint closely followed by two Shimano riders. It’s his first victory this season.
3. Stage:
1. Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) 3h44’13”
2. Micro Lorenzetto (Astana) +12”
3. Janez Brajkovic (Shack) +12”
4. Paul Martens (Rabobank) +24”
5. Leonardo Duque (Cofidis) +24”
Vinokourov proves his dominance winning the next hilly stage, Lorenzetto won sprint against Brajkovic to make it 1-2 for Astana.
4. Stage:
1. Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) 11’08”
2. Xavier Tondo (Movistar) +0”
3. Jos Van Emden (Rabobank) +1”
4. Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar) +2”
5. Janez Brajkovic (Shack) +3”
3rd victory out of four possible, can anyone stop the Kazakh?
5. Stage:
1. Enrico Gasparatto (Astana) 4h02’45”
2. Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) +0”
3. Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar) +23”
4. Janez Brajkovic (Shack) +23”
5. José Iván Gutiérrez (Movistar) +49"
Astana rider win once again, at least this time it’s not Vinokourov. With well timed attack Gasparatoo wins the last stage. Did Brajkovic did enough to take the overall from Vino?
Overall Classification
1. Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) 16h11’59”
2. Janez Brajkovic (Shack) +56”
3. Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) +1’21”
4. Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar) +1’51”
5. José Iván Gutiérrez (Movistar) +2’17”
Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t even close, dominant performance by Kazakh and his team Astana. He looks to be in quite a shape for Paris-Nice or Tirreno-Adriatico.

Giro di Sardegna (23.02-27.02)
1. Stage:
1. Damiano Cunego (Lampre) 3h40’25”
2. Christophe Le Mével (Garmin) +11”
3. Pasquale Muto (Miche) +11”
4. Stefano Garzelli (Acqua) +46”
5. Marco Frapporti (Colnago) +46”
Damiano Cunego wins the first victory of Giro Di Sardegna and ends his drought of victories. Looks to be favourite for next stages, as there is none mountain stage.
2. Stage:
1. Stefano Garzelli (Acqua) 3h58’57”
2. David Zabriskie (Garmin) +0”
3. Damiano Cunego (Lampre) +23”
4. Emanuele Vona (ISD) +39”
5. Pasquale Muto (Miche) +50”
Stefano Garzelli and David Zabriskie suprsied Cunego with 2km to finish attack, Garzelli had more energy in his legs and won sprint. Will Garzelli fight against Cunego for overall ?
3. Stage :
1. Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre) 4h52’25”
2. Danilo Napolitano (Acqua) +0”
3. Manuel Belletti (Colnago) +0”
First sprinters day is dominated by the great Italian – Alessandro Petacchi, comfortable sprint finish for him.
4.Stage:
1. Pasquale Muto (Miche) 4h09’20”
2. Alexander Efimkin (Team 1) +0”
3. David Zabriskie (Garmin) +0”
4. Damiano Cunego (Lampre) +31”
5. Stefano Garzelli (Acqua) +31"
Today was the last hilly stage and Cunego followed Garzelli every move and the Acqua rider couldn’t create any gap. But Cunego didn’t expect Zabriskie attack, and the American lost again in the sprint but won 31 seconds to Cunego, what that enough to take overall ?
5. Stage:
1. Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre) 3h09’55”
2. Danilo Napolitano (Acqua) +0”
3. Oscar Gatto (ISD) +0”
Two in a row for Petacchi, Napolitano and Gatto with close sprint for second.
Overall Classification
1. Damiano Cunego (Lampre) 19h51’28”
2. David Zabriskie (Garmin) +0”
3. Pasquale Muto (Miche) +7”
4. Stefano Garzelli (Acqua) +31”
5. Alexander Efimkin (Team 1) +1’11”
Damiano Cunego triumphs, but by how much? If Zabriskie won the last stage, he would have been crowned the winner, but he couldn’t and victory goes to Cunego. Good start of the season for him.
Valentin Iglinskiy takes his biggest victory in Almeria. Congratulations to him, and once again we see Astana dominating, they looking as the team to beat at the next Pro Tour races.
Classica Sarda Olbia-Pantogia (28.02)
1. Vladimir Gusev (Katusha) 4h13’55”
2. Egor Silin (Katusha) +0”
3. Cyril Dessel (AG2R) +0”
4. Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil) +1’13”
5. Reinier Honig (Landbouwkrediet) +1’13”
Katsuha makes the double, that was the headline today, Vladimir Gusev was very nicely lead-out by Egor and started his season to a perfect start.
Tomorrow, month review hopefully. Also i created poll, basically I enjoy making every report I make, but in time I do this report I may have done reported one or two races, it takes a lot of time to make the 'other results' report, my question to you do you prefer it like that and do you enjoy reading them ? Or you just want to have the races ? Comments and feedback very much apprieciated. I also creaed poll too see what you think, and thanks in advance
