That race sucked.
Serebriakov, Rodriguez and Lövkvist -- I thought one of them could have given me a sprint / breakaway victory, but apparently not.
Waste of time for my team. |

mb: Congrats on completing the grand tour, it was an epic one full of 'photography'.
Contador and Intxausti were terribly unlucky - we could wheel out the cliche about it being the beauty of the man game but bottom line it sucked really and robbed us perhaps of a true champion.
In comparison the Giro the crashes were relatively low key - let us hope we get a clean TdF!

Thanks Smowz it was good fun doing a three week race, I look forwards to doing more in the future. I agree that the race was a bit crashy.

Great! Great race, great reporting, great time bonuses for intermediate sprints that gave Rujano the podium place!
3rd for Rujano and a stage win is way more than I ever expected for the Vuelta. Can't be anything other than very happy with this one
And congrats to mb2612 for a nice and enjoyable report throughout the race.

Btw, thx p3druh. I noticed you also gave Mancuso a place here as well, gives him a nice amount of race days and always nice to see a lone rider ride.

Disagree with that - we'll never know how Contador would have performed if he hadn't fallen, but Valverde managed to pick up four stages wins and was consistently the best rider in the mountains.
Intxausti was very unlucky to fall when he did, but chances are he'd have finished 2nd on the GC anyway if he hadn't fallen. It would have been extremely close however and he may well have won.
I'd prefer Valverde won fair and square - but to say he's not the true champion is pushing it. He was the strongest time and again and Intxausti was constantly on the defensive.
Worked out perfect in the end taking the jersey when he did as the team would probably not have been strong enough to defend it for very long. Pleasing race for Cafe de Colombia and if Gomez Marchante can deliver a decent Tour performance we'll edge a bit closer to our Top 10 team goal.
And a big thanks to mb2612 for some entertaining Vuelta reports. |

Yeh, at the end of the day, its well done Valverde. Even if Intxausti hadnt of crashed, Valverde would have won this race - by 14 seconds, is my calculation.
It was a horrible way to end the race for me, but rankings wise, at least Intxausti picked up plenty of points along the way,

Fenian: Well we are going to have to agree to disagree - I think it would have been a far more prestigious victory had Valverde won without the two other riders falling.
I was maybe being a bit harsh with the 'true champion' of course he is a champion rider, it was a great moment for Valverde. Many were predicting before the start that the mountains would be too tough for Alejandro but he really showed everyone he is a grand tour man. |

Valverde was brilliant, and saying it could have been an even greater clash with Schleck, Contador, and Intxausti all in it till the end is not to take anything away from him. He did seem the strongest anyways.
For me not much could be expected, but I was hoping for a bit more from Farrar and a bit more agressive riding.

This Vuelta was a very nice GT to follow. Indeed that was all my team did, follow and spectate anonymously. I wasn't obviously expecting any major result but I must reckon I was hoping for better luck in the breakaways.
Congrats fenian and nice job mb
