So, Oomen had an excellent prologue and horrible second stage last year. Maybe the roles are reversed now?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Hum... Pretty surprised by some results. Are we sure this is the exact same stage as last year, with the same engine and the same settings (i.e. daily form limit = +/-2)?
Last year, Mo/Hi had a far bigger impact it seems. Ganna was outside the Top 10, and Mullen was 40th, this year they're 5th and 6th (similar for Lammertink, 42nd -> 8th). On the other hand, Haig, Hart, Conci, McNulty all were Top 10 and are outside this year... Seems like there was somehow a general shift to this being mostly a TTers' stage again, so maybe last year was just an outlier.
Anyway, the winner was clear before the start, congrats to SN. Given last year's outcome, I'm surprised to see Würtz on the podium, but well done, same for Dunbar.
Not really happy with how my riders performed, but it looks like they just had worse legs than lots of comparable riders. And Darbellay clearly suffered from climbing being less important than last year.
Now up to Schmid to make it a really tough stage 2, so that most TTers lose some minutes (at least all those below 70 Mo/Hi, including most of ours). Otherwise, I think it could turn out to be as bad a race as last year's for us...
Thanks for the report.

Expected outcome at the top, nonetheless congrats SN! Hoping that Uwizeyimana might end up in the Top 50, and that maybe one of Teuns/Velasco/Van Eetvelt will attack tomorrow to do something. Not much more in this for us, but that was always going to be the case. Thanks for the report, good luck to the top favorites for the next two days.

That's what I like to see! Comfortable win is the ideal start to the race - and taking the leaders jersey should be a boost for chances on the unknown of Stage 2! Good ride from Munton as well. Hill team strength isn't as strong as possible - did bring Valter to some Wirtgen races last season, but haven't done that with Mohoric this time. Full focus on Tom.

Shared 11th is a decent result in this field. Very curious what tomorrow brings.

Bjerg with a satisfactory prologue, maybe hoped a slight bit better fo Cattaneo but nothing is lost yet.

Awesome first stage from Dunbar - better than we could have hoped! Tomorrow is certainly a scary day out with the climbers/puncheurs present. Areruya here to shake things up is just mean hopefully we can stay close to the front and stay out of trouble.
Thanks for the report and for the preview!

Pretty decent stage apart from Wurtz somehow surviving (for us anyway ). Dunbar did well to be right at the front at the pointy end of the race which is fantastic, hopefully he can try and keep that 3rd place tomorrow which will be huge for us.
Congrats ember! Valter is an awesome rider and it’s great to see him do well and get a win like that.

Certainly happy to see Valter win, and a stage safely navigated for Wirtgen. Could have done without Wurtz turning into a GC threat This is where the training needs to earn it's value!

That’s a very nice win against big opposition! Great sign to see him beat Areruya and other top stage racers and puncheurs on such a finish.
That also makes the race a success for us. We won’t get any big points due to the GC positions after the prologue and what is to come with the TT, but a stage win and also a points placing in the green jersey is the most we could got with such a race development and lack of gaps on that stage.
Wirtgen still the obvious GC favourite, but what a ride that was by Würtz to give himself and Grieg a huge race, where it couldn’t be expected, I’d say. |

I didn't expect the stage to turn out as it did. Kudos to Wurtz for hanging on, but he doesn't really belong in that group compared to the others.
I didn't expect us to burn our team and join Xero in making the race so hard. I don't think it was worth it as we lost all our depth, although maybe the way it was raced it wouldn't have worked out for us anyway. Pogacar getting that KOM probably salvages the race for us as I don't expect TGH to get the better of Conci/Leknessund and Haig only a 1'' behind.
If we come back here next year we have to try a different approach as the current setup didn't really work for us.

Oomen much better now. Unfortunately we needed bigger gaps, so we'll probably lose a few more spots tomorrow.

Urgh, 36 seconds is not what Cattaneo needed

Wow, Xero lost Ganna and Pidcock for no bonus seconds and no stage win by Areruya.
Likely not the perfect leading trio for that race and now they are likely to drop big time in GC. Seeing Würtz up there I wonder what Ganna could have done as lone leader.
Other than that, Wirtgen still looking fine for the win and Valter takes the stage win from this race and slowly becoming one of the top3 puncheurs of the season it seems. Ardennes should be interesting. |

Pretty disappointing stage. Schmid not even trying anything, just sitting in the pack. Darbellay dropped once again, probably bad positioning. Küng losing a bunch of time when Würtz makes the front group. Even worse for Brunel who has the same puncheur skills...
Fortunately, points expectations weren't too high for this race, and we might still make the target with 3 probably finishing in the Top 50, but stage result wise it was a disastrous race. Definitely thought S2 would be great for Schmid, guess he'll need some Mo boost for next year. Ardennes should be fine for him though, as more similar to Grand-Duché than to this stage.
Congrats to Aker, there's just no stopping you at the moment.
Thanks for the report.

Vakoc on the favourite list, before finishing 108th Luckily we have some minor points from Zana in the KOM.
Thanks sean for the reports!

That might've been the perfect scenario for us. Leknessund, Aleotti, Senni and Carboni all managed to stay with the big guns while most TT specialists lost minutes. Good GC depth scoring is now very much on the menu. Even Nsengimana can contribute.
