Hurts a little to be so dominant in the sprint prep and only be 3rd of the 3 sprinters at the end but 3rd, 4th, 5th brings some decent points and good to see us flexing our muscle.

Shiki casually sprinting to 15th in both stages is about as good as it could have got realistically. Now for the important one from our perspective.
Congrats to the winners and thanks for the reports so far

Both sprint stages shouldnt have any impact on us or the gc fight and the ones in the break on the first stages shouldnt survive in any case. So now the race properly starts for us and hopefully Lecuisinier can put his stamp on this now.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Very very close behind Lecuisinier. Should have made more distance.

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Not happy about how long we waited to go for the decider but at least we won the stage. Now, we must not screw anything up

Love coming 5th on the stage and countback from fucking sprint stages putting him 9th on GC... such horseshit and guessing it will get worse tomorrow if the previous sprint stages' order happens again.

A bit weird to have 18 riders finishing on s.t. with Barguil, indeed. But not really that surprising, given that last year there was a group of 12 ahead - despite there being more top climbers with Herklotz, Phinney and Madrazo.
I guess the climbers' teams didn't make the race hard enough, so even a declining Beltran could keep up. The final climb just isn't long and hard enough to create decisive time gaps, so once a rider makes that split it's kind of a lottery which GC spot he'll finally end up with.
Great to see that Lecuisinier left no questions open with his stage win, though. Cool to have Barguil in 2nd, and 3rd for Yates means a really huge GC result for Indosat, after their sprinter didn't exactly deliver... Bonifazio in green, Choi in the KoM jersey and Primozic leading the U25 also means PCT currently has every jersey bar the yellow one, indicating they really made use of the pretty small and relatively weak field! Just hoping the final stage won't break everything now...

Wow that’s huge for Yates. He was obviously having a great day with him trying to attack early on the big climb, but it’s great that he could finish it off and land a spot on the podium (barring disaster tomorrow), totally unexpected. I was surprised hoping for a lower top-10 at best, so this is a terrific result! We’ve never really been close to scoring a decent GC in our home race, so that is an added bonus.
The lack of gaps is strange though, and the sprinter stage counts co sucks - Bennet and even a guy like Figueredo having a great day landing in the top-10 is pushed way out of the gc top-10 because if that.
Thank you for the report, and congrats knockout on PHL doing PHL things.

Yeah all the s.t.s again not great. Not easy to make this stage harder given the geography. Unfortunately, they seem to ride it very conservatively.
But will look during the offseason, I think something more decisive so the sprint positions don't matter would be better.

6th is fine from Choi. Losing a place on countback sucks a bit but the KOM jersey makes up for it. Great initiative to take maximum points on the penultimate climb.
Congrats on the expected win knockout and thanks for the report

Novak you beautiful man! What a steal on the 6th place in GC! Combine that with Bonifazio's 1 good sprint / year and we actually have a really good race here.
Thanks for the reports KB!

stupid stupid stupid stupid
5th from Jams at home is cool, so is Lecuisinier delivering as he should. Thanks kandesbunzler for the reports - my annoyance is far from your fault.

Jakobsen 4th in the final stage is acceptable. Disappointing that he didn't manage a stage win here but 3rd and 4th is decent.
Wellens 4th is acceptable. I would have expected 2nd given his relative strength vs those in 2nd and 3rd but that stage was just not decisive enough. Was poor from him and the team as we weren't active enough in our attempts to split the race up more. I'll take a Top 5 though
Thank you for the reports!! Some strange results throughout but that's racing

Places 5, 14, 17, 30 and 33 in GC is a good result. Well done!

Losing 4 GC placements on last stage due to s.t. shenanigans.

I guess third in teams somewhat makes up for it but fucking woeful display from us here. Thanks for the reports and congratulations to everyone that got something out of this, we didn't want to fight for promotion anyways.

Losing another GC place on countback sucks more but the KOM win and the great depth scoring gives us a good haul of points. Can't complain too much about this race. Shiki the epitome of sprinting consistency with 15th, 15th and 14th
Congrats to knockout and thanks for the reports

A bit unfortunate for some that the time gaps on the mountain stage got reduced to a big group of 2nd tier riders. So it was a bit of a lottery for some from 5th to 15th in GC.
Cras kind of on the lucky side I`d say, first I read, he got dropped with Ardila on the climb and wasn`t very sure how many were still ahead. Then in the results it looked a lot better with him being one of the last in the GC group s.t.
In the GC he even climbed a bit higher and 11th in this field is pretty much a solid result. Not many points, but with such team I had no scoring expectations here.
Vingerling with 1/3 good sprints, there he even won but it was 4th behind the break. Still more than nothing.
Congrats to the favourite win and thanks for the reports. |
