Very ccol to see such a strong puma leadout. Looks promising for the sprint races.
Ideally, we would have been in the break but the next stage is where it counts..

What a beast leadout by Ganna! Must be encouraging for cio to see that.
ISA continuing to work their magic, but always with a different sprinter. Looks like Ewan will be a very happy rider with them. Congratulations on the win, Scorchio!
Happy start for us. Prasad trying his luck in the sprint is good. That's why we brought in three medium sprinters, to go stage placing hunting in stage races. Even more important was Potts joining the breakaway fun, and Mohoric trying was also nice. Hopefully we can be aggressive on the hilly stage as well. As roturn rightfully points out, there's no GC ambitions here for Mohoric, assuming we get a bigger group finishing together, so trying the breakaway looks like our best option for success. |

Van Poppel alone and spent a lot of time in the wind so I guess a top 10 is decent enough in these conditions though I had hoped he could be contesting for a podium in the opening sprint of the season.

Interesting to see the leadout from Ganna for Kanter working pretty well! Very sad to see Couqard getting boxed in and being unable to contest was an unfortunate event for ELCO-ABEA in a season where his points are probably needed more than ever. Love to see former loanee Peak on the podium though. Great report!

Great to get the season started, and to top it off with the stage victory is awesome. Without his sprint train was not sure how Ewan would do. Mraouni defaulted to his usual approach of setting up the lead-out forgetting that Baska and Santos aren't at this race and it was Ewan right on his wheel! Caleb appears to have used his experience to avoid any unecessary time in the wind and slotted in as the right train came passed.
Certainly can't complain how it all worked out. Stage, leader and sprint jersey secures 55 points straight away - very satisfying + 1 towards the stage victory goal set by our sponsors. Now watch PCM AI have all my riders wait up on Ewan on stage 2 . Will for sure be a good test of the potential AI peculiarities of this version.
Unfortunate that Coquard didn't really participate properly here. Good outing for upgraded Kanter and fully-formed Peak. Carsi in 4th a particular surprise for me given how 1-dimensional he is (something to keep an eye on as more races are reported).
Thanks to Roturn for the report, a real colourful peleton we have this year!

Nothing to say about my team here as we didn't bring a sprinter. Not super impressed with the new sprint AI to have a guy here that much better than everyone else end up out of position and 15th, but I guess let's not skip to doom and gloom this soon.
The season has begun!

Good start from Peák, looking at the field here I was hoping he'd be at least 4th and in the U25 jersey after stage 1, so nice to see that I wasn't being overly optimistic!
Now to see whether De Bie was worth the massive roster overhaul his signing required. I think he's probably the 3rd/4th best puncheur in the field but a bad day could quite easily see him outside the top 10, so fingers crossed he avoids that. Big question is whether he can gap some of the stronger TTers - suspect this is Phinney's race to lose unless it's super selective. |

Sixth is perfectly fine from Kalaba. Hopefully the rest of the team continues this line

Good to get the season rolling! Don't expect big things in terms of GC, but hope to see some of our guys around the top 10 and of course a good TT from Würtz.
Safely through the first stage at least and good to see our guys quite near the front. Congrats to Schorchio on the win, what a way to get the season going - and of course a very popular home win here, I reckon.
Thanks for the report!

I was not expecting Van Poppel to be our best rider today.

Was hoping to see Bobridge up there but good he was in the group still. Good that Erdenebat is in there too. Will be good to see how he goes against the PT peloton

Not a lot the field can do when Phinney is taking the road stages before the TT
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Hmm guess I should have put Vlatos here. Seems like this will be some sort of random shitshow…
Given how Coquard performed on the first Stage, I Can only hope that we are on the positive side of luck, but I see a realistic scenario with no riders in top 25…

Quite an underwhelming stage, tbh. McCarthy didn't do anything.. at least Durbridge is somehow in the mix for a solid GC result now. After all these years, where we tried to win this race with Bobridge

6 points from 3 De Bie RDs here does scream relegation battle, doesn't it?
I've never seen that from the hilly stage here before, even in some of the less selective PCMs. Basically race over as far as we're concerned as Cataford is our only TTer, and without the benefit of time gained on the hills he's looking at a top 20 at best. Quite disappointing given the hope going in was two in the top 15, can't say I'd missed the crushing disappointment MG brings in my time away |

Kinoshita did not waste his only chance here. The lack of time gaps does change our expectations for the GC, now Bjerg might be our best shot at something good.

I suddenly regret selling all TTers
Mohoric with a good try in the sprint, eventhough he wasn’t ideally placed when it started. Also very positive to have Swift and Potts deliver a double KoM standings podium, I’ll take that!
Phinney winning for MOL is the perfect start for them, as it should also secure the GC. The GC podium, though, is wise open after that big peloton crossing the line together. |

A little worrying that these stages are not selective, especially with the whole debate about TTers relative value to every other rider category. While they are obviously selective in terms of who wins the stages, the fact that 167 riders are in the first group is a tad bit worrying for the long term. Again I know this stage itself isn't the most selective stage profile, but if this is going to be the situation all year, there might be something to look at for the stage team, that I am sure they will be more than capable of finding a solution to Phinney's race to lose now that's for sure!
