Let's get this thing on the road!
I think there are worse reasons to put a rider on a preview than "he finished 10th last year", so I'm happy with that.
Obviously, it'll be hard for Arndt to repeat that performance, with the easier profile not helping him either.
But the potential is there, and I'm hoping he can channel more Badaling'19 and less EverythingElse'19 again.
On the support side, we're coming to China with a deep roster without any standout domestique. The MO range is 73-75, if we take Madouas' talent and therefore water carrier status into account.
That should be good enough to keep Arndt safe until the mountain loop, and maybe we'll see local boy Yikui Niu produce another stellar performance here after 22nd last time around.
Additionally, that lineup is well-suited to a Puma breakaway appearance, as we can afford to waste a couple of riders on early attempts, while guaranteeing to have someone up to the task in there if one of us makes it.
Overall, I hope for an aggressive race that sees us feature to some extent. The faster we're riding up that mountain, the better for Arndt, so a big break would be great.
A win prediction would be bold in the first race, I wouldn't put it past the Evonik duo though.

And so it begins!
McCarthy as expected is a little outgunned here but I feel he can be in and around the top 10. To be honest this needs to be a semi consistent occurrence to really justify our investment in him but I'll be satisfied with getting the season off to a creditable start!

Good chance for Janny boy to show if he’s still got it. Top-10 would be ideal with such a field, decent support squad so here’s hoping! Thanks for the preview

That was fast! Great preview, and very tough division
Hopefully Ponzi still has it.

Let's see what happens. Obviously Koretzky isn't really a top rider here, but I have some decent depth with riders such as Boily, Bongiorno and van Niekerk who are all fairly versatile if the race becomes difficult.
I can hope that since I don't have a pre-race favorite by any means, that maybe Aidan can give it a go from "far out".

Go Ponzi!
Will obviously be rooting for UBS the whole year long, as it's obviously a big
advantage for the promotion of Swiss Cycling to have a team in the highest division
Reported that race last year, it was my first report and it was fun. This time, we shouldn't see bad climbers get dropped as early as in 2019, though. Still, they probably won't be in the mix, and I think EBH has a good shot at repeating last year's win despite his (slight) decline.

Not a bad race at all, we present the new jersey (I really love how it looks in minijerseys) and we show that the budget is lower from last year with reusing of equipment :-p Quite happy with how Buchmann did here aswell, better than he did in general in this kind of field last year, so it looks like training could have a good effect.
Very good report

For fuck sake what was that? The team was so strong but same as last year Mohoric just did too much and paid for it at the end. Should play it smarter...
Thanks for a great report though!

Can I have MAL underperforming and slaving for Skujins in every one of Beltran's races?

Bittersweet to see Ponzi to win here, but nonetheless, congrats to UBS! Great to have the season going strong already

The sprint skills in the end made the difference with Ponzi a deserving winner.
De Bie in 5th is okay but clearly was hoping for more here...that said more shocked by the weak team depth except for Vliegen on a great 22nd I had much higher expectations for 2-3-4 others to also get a top50 instead of not even top100.
Guess not the best daily form by De Bie as otherwise I would expect a 84 rider to attack at one point. So hopefully will see better from him later this season.
Thanks for the report. It was a fantastic read and very much detail. |

Thanks for the report, getting the season started nicely!
Very solid start for us, Van Garderen 7th hits the Top 10 target, and hopefully offers positive signs for the season looking at who did well. Gastauer at least Top 25, would like to see a little bit better; nice race from Smit though.

Meh, top 20 is what we were gunning for I guess but it's kind of odd to get it with... Sequera?? of all riders who thankfully was in the break. This daily form thing is kinda annoying when Teuns and Talansky should be much better equipped to get that result and they both ride into total mediocrity. I wonder if it's just a result of Sequera going into the break and them taking it easy? Other riders' results would indicate so, but that's just so damn stupid.
Not too many points to gain for us here tho, so I'm not too annoyed. We started last season like this if not worse too.
Great report cune, and Ponzi never disappoints, still a rock-solid rider into his declining years. Congrats!

12th is not good enough from Lutsenko after the team worked for him. Marzuki in front of Gidich also hurts a little bit.
Niu with a great performance for Puma, makes it even less likely he'll change teams sometime in the future.
Congrats UBS on the win, Ponzi starting to pay back his wage, and thanks for the great report cunego! |

That's a very solid start to the season with Koretzky being among riders who are easily better than him on paper. Obviously ending things in a sprint makes it better for him, but still 3rd is a big overachievement!
Giannoutsos at level 3 comes in at 26th just before teammate Aidan van Niekerk is also brilliant. Like always Charalampas Kastrantas also takes more than minimum points here in 37th. Quite interesting/discouraging that my two main riders besides Koretzky both were FAR back though. Bongiorno and Boily really didn't have good legs - But that isn't of importance obviously.
Kwiatek in 6th makes that training seem very clever, while also Floris Gerts is suddenly a man to watch on multiple terrains. Homeboy Yikiu Niu bettered last seasons result which must be a very pleasant surprise!
On the other side of the table - Evonik can't be happy with this, also Moser with Sagan in 13th is really not a good start. Jan Bakelants easily the biggest underachiever though. 50th in oneday race with a punchy look - Ouch! As if survival wasn't difficult enough.

Ouf, that was shockingly poor. Weird result in terms that Grøndahl Jansen was the best from our team, while Grossschartner went missing. Didn't expect a top 10 or anything, but surprised to see a 75 hilly rider, the best on his team, finish in 181th place. Hopefully just an awful daily form.
Cool race to follow. Congrats to Bushwackers on a great start!

Great report cunego and thanks for the congrats guys. Just a big relief to see Ponzi win this, good sign of things to come this year and an indication that he wasn't a waste of money.
