Oh wow. Didn't quite expect Coquard to be an actual outsider for the win, and to absolutely smash it was very unexpected to say the least!
Now he doesn't have any excuses to keep the lead for another day! With a gap of more than 20 seconds on the next "top sprinter" he really should do that. Only Scully and Nelson are within a shout, and neither should (should!) have a chance to beat Coquard.
Now to see him mess up the sprint in which he is a massive favorite!

Obviously not the start we hoped for, let's hope that was the bad day Taaramae will have this race. If that turns out to be the prologue, there's nothing wrong with that
Congratulations on the win, SotD! |

Great start into the season for Herklotz, being the best stage racer in the prologue.
A few tenths further up would've been amazing for some extra points in the fight for green (and some extra points in general), but the important jersey here is white and he already took that.
Congrats SotD! Enjoy that one.

Morton safely in the main group is today's best news. Culey with a solid finish, too. At least Dyball also in this group, maybe with a chance to add a decent GC result behind Morton.

Evonik trying to be aggressive - that's all i can expect from these flat stages here - so I'm content with that. Congrats to SotD, the Coquard show is continuing!
Fantastic report once again. You're killing it!

That was a shitshow by Isostar, full supporting cast in the second group ensuring we'll fail to score any depth points again. Taaramae aggressive also means that we really are in trouble. |

Classy ride by Norman Hansen. Great to see, and at least securing us some points from this race. It won't be many, I guess! A pity that both Stake Laengen and Iturria lost time, but hopefully it means they can be more aggressive in the more tougher stages.

Well... Coquard off to a flyer. Well done by him.
Kennaugh looked OK - and Bernadeau obviously a great surprise in the prologue. |

Great to see Filippo flashing the Campari/Asahi colors.
As we may already expect by now a marvelous report

6 riders on the wrong side of the split is absolutely unacceptable.
Not just because that might mean some GC places lost in the end, but we have to be up there protecting Herklotz at all times.
Congrats SotD! Insane start to this race for you.

Nizzolo already making his contract worthy
Ofc all my team in the wrong side of the split, but not that we come here with GC expectations. Now time for any of my climbers (or even all together if possible) to attack and get into the breakaway and see what we can get

Good to see Taaramäe be alert in the final kilometers. Hopefully a sign for what's to come now that we hit stages that will and should give time gaps. Fingers crossed he's able to show that he really is among the top three stage racers here.
Congratulations again, SotD! |

Thanks a lot guys! This is just amazing! Especially after a dreadful Qatar. I expected this win, but it got really close!
Now to proper lose the jersey! I hope Coquard can claim one more and survive the race. It would be extremely important!

Great sprint by Van Poppel. He actually had a shot of taking the stage win.

Definately wasn’t expecting to keep the jersey here! Well done! Congrats to Groenewegen too, what a win!
When Coquard is there, and he picked the right wheel it is a bit of a bummer to get 13th, as one more top result could have given him the final points jersey! Also too bad that Lecuisinier didn’t get bonus seconds, as those can potentially be very important. But we cannot complain. Very good start to this race!

Actually a good result for Morton. Not much more to say here though.

Aegon sprinters in the triple clash....Ben Swift back then in PN, now Groenewegen here.
Bad AI, good result, I'll surely take it.
Doesn't matter who's in front, only who Herklotz beat, and that was everyone important here.
It got rather close in the end and I worried being in the wind for the entire sprint was going to be a bad call, but he managed to keep the speed up.
Additionally, that's a good starting situation in the points jersey fight, and some unexpected KoM points too.
Now for the two most important stages, tomorrow is all about staying with the best over the Cat.1, aiming for a select sprint that Herklotz surely will love again. If there are small gaps however, I have faith in his descent skills.
