Bizarre sprint like always on these types of stages. JJ safely in the pack.

I thought leaving Kreder out would hurt Kraftwerk's chances in stage 1 but Flugel proved me wrong with a surprise podium. Paulus leading the U25 is a good sign, hopefully he will ride to keep his place.
Thanks SN for the history lesson preview and report. Congrats to Generali, Ulissi has decided to have a go this season!

I have an odd feeling about this race. For some reason I think it is gonna be either a break-out or bust outcome for WCC; don't know why!
We brought some of our best available puncheur depth here, leaving out any development rider, when usually we make space for one if not more.
Stage 1 was a non-event. Had thought field might end up about half the size that actually eventuated, and in that context thouhgt Redecker or Juarez might be intersting options if they had hung on. Instead an odd big bunch but still the top puncheurs up front - strange. Opening stage was never going to be GC decisive though, so fingers crossed for the remaining two stages that Betancourt and Boily can bring a good strategy and set of results.

No time lost, that's all I can say really about this stage.

Well, not the way how I would've liked the AI to use Cerny. Breakaway will be our only option then. Luckily plenty of guys lost time already..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Ulissi wins a sprint? Looking forward to Matt's reaction
Matt likes what he sees
I'd like to thank Ben Hermans for being an amazing signing! This guy never stops amazing me and of course finally Ulissi wins a hilly bunch sprint, got to be the first time I see him doing this as his manager. Hoping he continues on this note, this season start has been really impressive, but I wouldn't want to have spoken too early with two more stages to go here - the harder ones - even if the leader jersey is always a massive, massive boost.
Huge congrats to Atlantius as well on Gautier deciding to step his game up these first couple of months. Thanks SN, very enjoyable report, looking forward to tomorrow's stages as well.

Not looking promising at the moment. Nava should really be up there for these kinds of stages right? Maybe I'm expecting too much. Probably a 3rd/4th in the U25s is the best I can hope for from this race. Good effort from Allegaert
Thanks for the report and congrats Matt!

Great start, Ben Nasser 6th and also Estifanos Kebede not losing time, the small points at the finish probably not important but looks like Nasser believe in his options in this race.
Matsumoto did try the break, that’s cool just did not have the legs/luck, might even have been the better KoM hunter if he had made it, so hope he will try again tomorrow.
Congrats to matt, and also CT colleague Atlantius, great start.
Thanks for the great report, some lovely Nasser shots to my scrapbook.

Congrats Matt! Ulissi having an amazing season so far. This race suits him so well too - very possible he never loses the lead from here.

Very nice start. If only Gautier had ridden like this last season he wouldn't have to work so hard to prove worthy of PCT leadership...

Aaaaargggh, Bystrom was looking so good in the sprint, but he was blocked by Flugel, and as all the road was already used up by other riders, he couldn't move from there
Also looks like we got some decent depth in the stage result, but S1 made us drop quite hard in GC tie-break. We'll see what happens in S3, if another weird bunch sprint, or finally some gaps between favourites

Cerny still nor doing what we hope he would do. At this rate, sprint positions will decide Top 10 GC spots and it's not very good for us atm.

Wow, what a sprint! A better stage for our team as well, with Jensen joining the break. Perhaps we can even get out of this race with our first points of the season?

Of course Ulissi had to disappoint after such a great start. Awful positioning in those final kilometres after the team did its best to keep him in the front, ugh. I hate the AI in these stages, riders just kinda stop and everyone keeps whatever position they had after the climb is over until the last 300m, and Ulissi obviously couldn't move up at all from where he was, completely boxed.
Well damn, 3rd overall wouldn't even be bad considering the field, but hopefully stage 3 is a bit more selective, like it should be, and Diego is as aggressive as he was in Poland.
Thanks SN, congrats D2B and Atlantius - once again!

Again, Quevedo being anonymous. Hope that changes in the final stage.

Shocking race, these profiles creating no gaps at all and ending with stand-still sprints favouring the first coupla guys at the front. Hoping for a crosswind laden stage with a furious pace set from the drop of the flag for the final stage to create a little bit of a selection
Congrats D2B and thanks for the reports so far SN!

Ben Nasser with another fine result, but it will all come down to the final stage.
Rocchetti/ Rosa/Kebede please do that little bit extra – jumping up the ranks.
Thanks for the report, nice feature with that full sprint photographic coverage.

Not good, not good at all, even if Lutsenko won this, this is boring as hell
All on the final stage now, please give Lutsenko a good daily form! Or I can start my CT preparations already |
