Hmm a blow for Vesuvio though Ponzi and Trofimov to the forefront makes it perhaps more likely that Phinney will be denied mega points.
Impey definately a better sprinter than a certain other useless South African!
..and Ponzi/Good Energy showing great late season surge.
Santos misses spark but I think could be useful lead out - so in the market for big sprinter next year.

Well, that's a race day less to the end of the season, I guess.

Very well done, Impey!
Ponzi winning makes him a very dangerous man, suspect/fear he could fly on the hilly stage. That might be a good thing if it forces a selective stage, though.
And it looks like a sprint stat of 76 really makes a difference if you're a puncheur....
Thanks for a nice report, tsmoha! |

Not an ideal start at all - after all, Swift won the stage last year. Totally out of it today.
All hinges on Stage 2 - vital that Phinney gets gapped and the hill specialists work together to get a good lead. And at all costs, Schleck has to beat Van Garderen.

Well, Sagan better than Howard in the first stage, I didn't expect that. Hopefully Sagan can keep his strong show in the next stage too.

Well that worked out a lot better than I ever imagined!
Bit of a weaker hilly squad for the next stage, Palini and Diggle are my main two domestiques, so I feel Ponzi will be more vulnerable than usual. We shall see.
I can't see him winning the whole tour though, that TT will make Trofimov still firm favourite in my eyes.

Well done Mr. Sanchez. Good result for our team obviously.
Not sure where he will land eventually. I guess top5 is possible but I fear Gesink for sure will pass him in the TT.
Edit: Actually I fear that Gesink, Taaramae, Phinney and Coppel will pass him...not good.
First I thought, why the hell is the team going for Roux, but luckily the first wave was caught quickly again.
A bit unfortunate for Roux that there were no gaps behind, so pretty sure LLS is the only high GC rider, but then again this is not making it much better for Volkswagen neither, who had a horrible stage here.
Just go on to post the TT, tsmoha. Can`t wait.
Edit 2: Now realizing Schädlich wasn`t dropped, giving him a good chance to finish in the top20-30 here, is just weird. But I will take it obviously. Just hope this one stage is not too much for the top TT riders to perform well in the time trial.

Interesting stage. Although the top guys seemed to have a good hit out, surprisingly big bunch still intact not that far down. Looked like a good day for Vesuvio in the title fight and Rothaus at the other end of the table. Everything still to play for!

Also Vueling with a good day. Dekker performing well on that hill here might have saved them as his TT should deliver him a podium or at least a top5 here making him staying in PT next year.
That said, Sinkewitz for some reason making it exciting.
With also Schumacher and Taaramae scoring decently in the GC here, it`s probably just between Volkswagen and me I guess.
They outscored me in Praha, while I had the better TTT and probably also the better scoring in this race, while Brändle though might get a decent GC for them just like Schädlich it seems.
Going with a gap into Lombardia, where Heine should have the stronger team, while I need a big result, I probably go down with 0/5 goals this season and still was pretty close in the end. Would be a pity then.

Well that should've decided the top race at least, while indeed a mighty Lombardia performance is needed anyway for Rothaus. LLS put up a great fight there though!
Also indeed weird to see a 80+ man group finishing together for the not even minor places...

Looks like Trofimov has the overall won, and Wikipedia the title. Really looking forward to seeing what LLS can get out of this race for Rothaus though, going to be tight at the bottom! |

Nice effort from Jerry Copp, ultimately fruitless however. He could gain a minute or so on the weaker TTers - I would really like to see him win another please but tough against Phinney.
A good hilly stage really - of course Trofimov leaves nothing to anyone on these sorts of days.
Pretty big day for the title and relegation battle the UBS, Bouygues and Vueling stalwarts doing the job to save their meal tickets!

Was a bit worried for a while there but Gilbert did pretty well in the end, hopefully he can secure us a top 5. Trofimov has it sewn up surely though. Thanks for the reports tsmoha!

Not exactly the result I wanted from the stage... My guys tried though, just not strong enough. Now the questions is, how to get money to train Flügel next year? I'm pretty sure I did a big mistake in training Klemme to 80 instead of Flugel to 82

I`d take Klemme for small money/free if this helps.

Damnit, Van Garderen gets the lucky break for a probably guaranteed Top 5. Phinney may yet recover to the Top 10, and Meyer flukes the KoM jersey. Schleck and Gastauer did what they could, but you can't compete with that. A real shame that the likes of Dekker and LLS couldnt keep up at the end. Well, there's always Lombardia.
I didn't even aim for the title at the start of the year, but it is kinda frustrating to be on the way to missing out after getting so close. Especially given Wikipedia's activity levels...

Nice work from Schumacher, should be able to go top five now. Of course Trofimov had this in the bag though.

Disappointed with Gesink's performance. It looks like he has a huge problem in timing his moves.
I guess now I'll have to settle with a top 10 from Gesink and a possible top 20 from Posthuma.
