Stage 1
Welcome to the first stage of Tour of Taihu Lake.
106km to go we have formed the escape. Han (HEN), Spiby (TYD) and EIMANIGOLOUJEH (TPT). Spiby takes first intermediate sprint.
Second intermediate sprint also takes Spiby. With 53 km to go we have a big jump of four rider Choi (HKG), Shimizu (BGT), Mat Senan and Mat Amin (TSG). Movistar, Lotto Belisol and Giant-Shimano are working hard on the front of the peloton.
Last intermediate sprint goes to Mat Senan in front of Choi and Shimizu.
21km to go and only Choi is still in a breakaway with 30’. It is pretty obvious that it is going to be a sprint finish.
10km to go, MTN-Qhubeka is forming a sprint leading train Thomson-Reimer-Stauff-Ciolek. On Ciolek’s wheel is positioned Ratto.
Stauff is a lead out man for Ciolek and he has put him in excellent position. Behind Ciolek is Hayden Roulston. They are on one km to go. Only Ciolek and Roulston….
Victory for Ciolek and MTN-Qhubeka. First victory in the season and excellent start of Milan-San Remo race champion.

As promised, here is the interview with Ciolek after his first stage victory in this season.
Me: ‘Brilliant performance. Absolutely outstanding sprint. How do you feel?’
GC: ‘Thank you. Yes, it was great win. First one is always the hardest.
Especially if you have to wait for it couple of months. I am extremely happy that it came on my first stage.’
Me: ‘Team did great job for you?’
GC: ‘Yes they did.’
Me: ‘I noticed that Sbaragli wasn’t your lead out man. Has something changed in the tactics?’
GC: ‘No, he gave me a sign to pass him and to position on Stauff’s wheel. He didn’t feel well, but tomorrow is new day and we will be back to our A plan.’
Me: ‘Thank you for this interview. Go and celebrate with team mates.’
GC: ‘Thank you. Come with me. You are part of the crew.’

Team Presentation II
Not having time to do finish team presentation in one run, now I’ll continue with it. Today I’ll start again with a German rider, this time with Linus Gerdemann, the biggest name after Gerald Ciolek in MTN-Qhubeka. After failing to find a contract for 2013, he joined MTN-Qhubeka in 2014. In his career he won a stage at Tour of Suisse, he took overall win at Tour of Luxembourg, Bayern-Rundfahrt, Tour de l’Ain. He rode for Radioshak-Nissan, Leopard Trek, Milram, Team Columbia and others. His experience could be very important especially for younger riders.
Linus Gerdemann
Another new face in MTN-Qhubeka is John Lee Augustyn, a South African who had big health problems in the last two years. Promising, as youngster, he was part of Barloworld’s team from 2007-2009. Then he became a part of a new team Sky. Following a hip resurfacing operation in 2011, he moved to the UCI Professional Continental team Utensilnord-Named, but continued to suffer problems, indicating the hip implant was not coping with the strenuous of professional racing. He hopes that health problems are behind him and comes in the new season fully confident that his hip will withstand.
John-Lee Augustyn
Frekalsi Debesay, Eritrerian thirty-one-year old rider, in MTN-Qhubeka since 2012. In his career he won two stages at Tour of Rwanda and two stages Tour D Egypt. He is an excellent and valuable team member who can help his leaders.
Frekalsi Debesay
Tsgabu Gebremaryam Grmay is young and very perspective rider. With only 22 he has already won Ethiopian national road and ITT championship. Last year he was second overall at Tour de Taiwan winning one stage. He also made great results at Tour de Langkawi where he was ninth overall and fifth at La Tropicale Amissa Bongo race. He has great potential to become great climber and win some big races.
Tsgabu Gebremaryam Grmay
Louis Meintjes, leader of new generation South African riders, was second last year at U23 World Championship right behind Matej Mohoric. He was secon at Tour of Rwanda where he won one stage. Seen as an great future puncher, MTN-Qhubeka is keeping and protecting him like a gem.
Louis Meintjes
Sergio Pardilla Bellon is a team’s best climber. In 2011 and 2012 he was part of Spanish team Movistar when he won Mountain Classification on Tour a Burgos. Last year he was third at Tour de Lankagwi, sixth overall at Tour of Britain and ninth at Settimana Internazionale di Coppi e Bartali. MTN-Qhubeka is expecting some serious performance this year.
Sergio Pardilla Bellon
For two years, as a part a World Tour with Orica Green Edge, Daniel Teklehaimanot was among big boys. He has three professional victories, stage victory on La Tropicale Amissa Bongo Race, victories of Prueba Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika and African Continental Championship ITT. With his talent, he could give us some significant results this season.
Daniel Teklehaimanot
Jani Tewelde Weldegaber is an excellent team member and very valuable one. This is his third year in MTN-Qhubeka and he is very happy. In 2012 he had two victories on Tour of Eritrea.
Jani Tewelde Weldegaber
As one of the climbers in the team, Dennis Van Niekerk has proven himself at Tour of Langkawi which he finished 4th in the 2011 and 9th in the 2012. Last year wasn’t so good for him so he is highly motivated to deliver some good results this year.

Team Presentation III
Johann Van Zyl is a young rider who still has to prove to the manager so we should expect very bold attacks from him. Also he is hard working and definitely will help his older team mates in the peloton.
Johann Van Zyl
Since 2010 Jaco Venter is a part of MTN-Qhubeka’s team as a team member. I don’t think anyone could imagine this team without him. His best career result is a win at national road championship in 2009.
Jaco Venter
What stands for Venter, stands for Martin Wesemann too. Nobody could imagine MTN-Qhubeka team without him. South African rider is a part of this team since 2011 and work hard for is position.
Martin Wesemann
Adrien Niyonshuti is a part of this team since 2009 he is one of the riders who are the longest in the team. Last year he was ninth on Tour of Rwanda. He is a valuable team member who absolutely understands how this functions and that’s priceless on the road.
Adrien Niyonshuti
Merhawi Kudus is an Eritrean rider who had great last year winning stage on Tour of Eritrea and finishing second overall. Also he was second on Vuelta Cyclista a Leon and third on African continental road championship. Since he is only 20 years old, it is expected to become great climber and score some major wins in his career.
Merhawi Kudus
Songezo Jim, South African young rider, in MTN-Qhubeka is from 2012. He started his career in 2011 in Team Bonitas. He was 4th on La Tropicale Amissa Bongo race last year. Jim is very talented rider who will definitely show his potential this year.
Songezo Jim
Jacques Janse van Rensburg, experience 26-year old rider from South Africa, has to prove his rating among incoming youngsters. With not such a good last year, this year is crucial for him if he wants to stay one of the team’s leaders. In his career he won stage on Tour of Eritrea and GC at the same race in 2012, and was 6th overall on Tour of Langkawi in 2009.
Jacques Janse van Rensburg
Ignatas Konovalovas was until last year part of the World Tour, but then he decided to change World Tour team for Procontinental and joined MTN-Qhubeka. His experience can be priceless for younger members and in this whole process of MTN-Qhubeka’s rising. In his career he has Grand Tour victory – on Giro in 2009. Also he won a stage at Skoda-Tour de Luxembourg in 2008 when he finished fourth in GC. Also he has fourth place on one stage of Tour de France in 2009. He is MTN-Qhubeka’s best time-trialist, national champion, and team leader in many races. Last season wasn’t so good for him so he has to show all his potential.
Ignatas Konovalovas
Great bunch of guys who deserve to make good results this season.

Tour of Taihu Lake
Stage 2
With 23 degrees it was a perfect weather for racing. Profile of the route was promising another sprint finish where main actors would have been same from yesterday. Ciolek, as GC leader, would have strong competition in Roulston, Ratto, Juan José Lobato, Sinkeldam and other sprinters who want to take his jersey.
And here was the man in yellow, Gerald Ciolek, strongest yesterday.
After 30km a breakaway had been formed. With five guys Jung (KSP), Shirota (BLZ), Parker (TSI), Prendergast (PSN) and Leung (HKG) it surely looked promising. However, Lotto Belisol and Movistar were working on the front of the peloton just to keep them under control. And breakaway was caught. Russom from MTN-Qhubeka was at the front keeping the pace.
70km to go we have new three-man escape Briambilla (OPQ), Li and Wang (HEN).
1st Intermediate sprint – Russom, Li, Thomson
2nd Intermediate sprint – Briambilla, Li, Wang
3rd Intermediate sprint – Briambilla, Li, Wang
With 20km to go to the finish breakaway had been caught and we were going to look sprint finish, as it had been expected.
The lead out train with Thomson-Stauff-Sbaragli-Ciolek has been formed and it was an excellent position for Ciolek to deliver the victory.
400m from finish we had the same two men in front as the day before, Ciolek and Roulston.
And Ciolek was celebrating his second consecutive victory on Tour of Taihu Lake in front of Hayden Roulston.
What a brilliant performance from Ciolek and whole MTN-Qhubeka team. It was absolutely amazing, two victories in two days.

Tour of Taihu Lake
Stage 3
It is 27 degrees and cyclists are heading ahead Xitaihu lake on 118km long route which is designed again for sprinters. Ciolek and Roulston are again main contenders for the stage win.
With only 118km ahead of them many riders are bold and tried to get in a breakaway, but only eight of them managed to make a time gap Han(HEN), Yasui(SMN), Ho (HKG), Prendergast (PSN), Choi (KSP), Ayabe (AIS), Craven (BCP) and Fukuhara (BLZ).
They had maximal gap of 1min because Russom (MTN) is setting a high pace.
Due to high pace of the peloton, 50km to the finish line, only three riders from the breakaway managed to survive, Craven, Han and Yasui and they a lead of 1’40’’. Peloton, with MTN on the front, is trying to cut down the gap.
30km to go and the gap is still 1’05’’. Escapees are really pacing.
20km from the finish line peloton is packed and ready for another sprint finish. 16km to go and MTN-qhubeka has formed their train. Reimer- Thomson-Stauff-Sbaragli-Ciolek.
6km to go Thomson-Stauff-Sbaragli are still in front of Ciolek on whom wheels are Cannondale guys Longho Borghini and Cameron Wurf. They are losing wheel and Roulston is again best positioned.
However, Roulston was blocked and lost couple of positions so now Giant-Shimano riders with Sinkeldam-Arndt-Janse Van Rensburg are on Ciolek’s wheel.
Sbaragli does extraordinary job giving Ciolek best position before final sprint.
Sinkeldam winning amazingly in front of Ciolek. What a remarkable sprint from Sinkeldam.
Ciolek is still a man in yellow and green. Tomorrow is a new day to try to score hat-trick.

Tour of Taihu Lake
Stage 4
After two stage victories, Gerald Ciolek is man in the yellow with 14’’ in front of Roulston and 16’’ Sinkeldam, winner of third stage of Tour of Taihu Lake. Can Ciolek make hat trick?
With 120km to go ten-man breakaway has been formed. And look who is there, French champion Arthur Vichot. First intermediate sprint goes to Nonaka, Vichot came second and Cheung came third.
80km to the finish line high pace imposed by the peloton caught first breakaway, but second one has been immediately formed, Sai-Udomsin (TSI), Mori (AIS), Cheung (HKG) and Mat Senan (TSG).
After 40km breakaway is 2’45’’ ahead of the peloton.
Under 20km gap is still over 1’, exactly 1’17’’ and Katusha is really pushing the pedals.
8km and MTN-Qhubeka is taking charge of the peloton forming well-prepared train Reimer- Thomson-Stauff-Sbaragli for their first sprinter and race leader.
4.3 km to go and Thompson is giving his best.
Sbaragli is setting a high pace for Ciolek.
500m to go Ciolek is in perfect position to secure third victory.
What a domination of GERALD CIOLEK. HAT TRICK for Ciolek.
Brilliant performance for Ciolek and whole MTN-Qhubeka team and absolutely deserved victory for them.

Tour of Taihu Lake
Stage 5
With 25 degrees of Celsius and light breeze this is ideal weather for cycling. After three great wins Ciolek is aiming his fourth victory, but today’s stage finish is a little bit trickier. Not being flat as a pan, today’s finish will be call for many to destroy some weaker sprinters. We hope that Ciolek can rise the challenge and defend his yellow jersey.
It is formed seven-man breakaway and again French champion, Arthur Vichot. He has decided to try to score a win. Also, eleventh man in GC classification Shimizu who is 35’’ behind Ciolek is there. After 40km escapees have 2’50’’.
With 30km to the finish line gap is 2’30’’, Movistar, Lotto Belisol, Giant-Shimano with help of MTN are taking the charge of the peloton and pushing the pedals. The pace is very high.
On 3km and without of his sprint train Ciolek has to fight for someone's wheel. This is a bit new situation for him. He decided to position himself at Sabatin’s wheel, who is at Lobato’s.
Blocked in the peloton, Ciolek couldn’t do much, but as said at the beginning this is going to be strange stage.
Vichot claiming a victory in front of the peloton. This is the first victory for FDJ in this season. Great performance from Vichot.
Ciolek remains in yellow with 24'' ahead of Roulston and 26'' ahead of Sinkeldam. Sbaragli is still in top ten. This is still amazing race for African team.

Tour of Taihu Lake
Stage 6
After a great win for Vichot on yesterday’s stage, today is again day for sprinters, and usual suspects Ciolek, Roulston, Sinkeldam, Lobato and the others.
From the start we have a breakaway, Choe (GGC), Nakajima (AIS) and Pourseyedi (TPT) and their gap immediately start to rise.
1st Intermediate sprint – Nakajima, Pourseyedi, Choe.
With 65km to go MTN-Qhubeka is setting a pace at the front.
With 20km to go escapees have 1’41’’ but Katusha is setting a high pace so the chances for the breakaway to win are slim.
But, 1.4 km from the finish line we can see Pourseyedi coming without peloton in behind.
Last km and he is still solo. Can he deliver a victory?
Yes he can. He is today’s hero.

With 21 degree and flat as a pan this stage is meant to be for pure sprinters. But there are many bold riders ready to make a move.
Eleven man breakaway has been formed and has 1’50’’ gap to the peloton. They pushing really hard.
Peloton is trying to catch them but last six days were too strenuous for them.
