The Experts' Choices

GC

Jacques Stamford: Andreas Stauff is the clear winner here. The flat stages will be dominated by him

Rik Visser: No he will loose too much time in the hills. I will go for Stanislav Kozubek

Reinardt Janse van Rensberg: I don't know. I should support my MTN friends. Weseman told me he had something up his sleeve. But I don't think he will get top step. I think Giorgio Brambilla has the hills and sprint to win

Stage

Jacques Stamford: Ok this time it is Andreas Stauff

Rik Visser: I agree he is by far the strongest sprinter here

Reinhardt Janse Van Rensberg: Hmm a tough one. I think the american Kyle Wamsley

ISD Continental Team Squad

The Race

Lovely clear day and a break soon formed. 4 men today.

img805.imageshack.us/img805/2092/pcm0017.jpg

Over the climb it was Weber of Differdange who took the lead in that competition. Andre Benoit was 2nd for Quantec and 3rd was Jacobsen, the dane from Øster Hus. The forth man was Ryabkin for Itera - Katusha.

img109.imageshack.us/img109/1404/pcm0018.jpg

Through the sprint there was some controvacy. Benoit said he won but it was given to Jacobsen. This is the only angle of it we have unfortunately. Can you tell who was first over?

img43.imageshack.us/img43/8817/pcm0019.jpg

Flaminia (for Baggio), Atlas (for Brambilla) and MTN (Stauff) were doing most of the work. The break didn't have much of a chance.

img211.imageshack.us/img211/5729/pcm0020f.jpg

As they went along the gap was slashed. From just under 7m, with 20km to go it was down to 1m 30s. And the breakaway riders were exhausted.

img35.imageshack.us/img35/1641/pcm0021p.jpg

Except Weber who thought he'd try a last stitch effort. But it was short lived. Even with the help from the camera.

img705.imageshack.us/img705/4701/pcm0022a.jpg

With 10km we were pushing hard to get Kristov into a good place. You can see us coming up the right hand sie of MTN.

img541.imageshack.us/img541/3766/pcm0023.jpg

However we had not played our cards right. We were boxed in and as you can see stuck behind a backwards travelling MTN rider.
We launched the lead out early but as Shydyk sprinted he was too fast and Kristov was expending too much energy just staying on his wheel.

img708.imageshack.us/img708/1733/pcm0024z.jpg

With 1km to go Andreas Stauff was leading but he was all out of gas. Through came Brambilla, Wamsley and Fillipo Baggio.

img163.imageshack.us/img163/5772/pcm0025.jpg

Looking to the crowd as he came over the line, Baggio took it. A hard earned victory for Flaminia, they played their part. We were stuck down in 13th once again. Wamsley lunged in ahead of a fast approaching Kozubek. Brambilla was 4th ahead of Stauff

My fault really here. I told them to go there. But in the end it was bad of the MTN rider to cut them out like that. There are mosr stages still though.

Tour of South Africa - Stage 2

The Experts' Choices

Jacques Stamford: After his win yesterday I think Baggio can hold in over the hills

Rik Visser: Stanislav Kozubek once again. A great sprint yesterday seeing as he is a fighter

Reinardt Janse Van Rensberg: Been watching him recently and Ben Jacques-Maynes has some awesome acceleration and the hill to boot

The Race

Another great day of racing and ISD had a man in the break; Bakumenko.

img801.imageshack.us/img801/7684/pcm0004e.jpg

He was alone over the first summit with another few riders chasing. He took the first KOM points and they all joined up.

img826.imageshack.us/img826/1536/pcm0005l.jpg

They were: Kristan Dyrnes (Øster Hus), Weiss (Tirol) and Hoekstra (Jo Piels). Over the climbs Dyrnes and Bakumenko fought it out. Going up to the final climb it was 12 - 10 to Dyrnes.

img689.imageshack.us/img689/7379/pcm0006na.jpg

Then Bakumenko made a move. Still just over 30km to go and 9km to KOM which is what he wanted, and what he got. But Dyrnes took 2nd so it was a tie for the moment.

img843.imageshack.us/img843/7237/pcm0007c.jpg

3 dangerous riders jumped off the peleton. Bauknecht were working hard for Kozubek.

img812.imageshack.us/img812/9707/pcm0008q.jpg

More attacks came and were caught. The riders made their way up the hill once more (no KOM this time) before they drop down and back up for the finish.

img69.imageshack.us/img69/3526/pcm0009c.jpg

Over the top Wamsley lead the attacks.

img94.imageshack.us/img94/5824/pcm0010n.jpg

On the decent a group went clear with Agarkov just off the front leading. It was 11 strong. Sheydyk lead Kristov across perfectly, as you may be able to see. With our 3 riders the group was up to 14 as they caught Agarkov.

img834.imageshack.us/img834/586/pcm0011f.jpg

Brambilla was caught behind and the gap was kept at a steady 30s because of Atlas' work and that of the break.

img6.imageshack.us/img6/2677/pcm0012r.jpg

Up the final kick, 2km to go, before the plateau a constantina effect bought the group together but there were yet more attacks. Jacques-Maynes started the sprint first.

img707.imageshack.us/img707/8499/pcm0013y.jpg

And he managed to resist the sprinters!

img46.imageshack.us/img46/5219/pcm0014h.jpg

Kristov was powering along nicely and secured us 6th place

img547.imageshack.us/img547/4743/tsa1.jpg

As well as Bakumenko taking the polka-dot jersey.

The Experts' Choices

Jacques Stamford: I think the course is just right for a fighter to hold off the peleton. I am not sure which one...

Rik Visser: Stauff has a pretty good chance again

Reinardt Janse Van Rensberg: Should be a sprinter. Proberbly Brambilla or Baggio

The Race

Not great weather looked like it was threatening rain.

img89.imageshack.us/img89/1554/pcm0015x.jpg

The break formed as usual. Today it was Jacobsen (Oster Hus) once again, Rotyakov (Itera), Paajanen (Differange) and Niewold (Jo Piels).

img4.imageshack.us/img4/6280/pcm0016a.jpg

About halfway through it began to spit. The usual suspects were on the front: MTN, Ceramica and Atlas.

img202.imageshack.us/img202/326/pcm0026.jpg

Under the 20km banner the break had little over a minute. They would make it to the climb but proberbly no further. Atlas were driving hard. Brambilla must have good legs.

img854.imageshack.us/img854/7669/pcm0027.jpg

A few fans were out on this grim day and with the break caught at 6km to go an attack was launched. Luis alberto Romero. A dangerous Cuban climber from Jamis, who have already had sucess here.

img221.imageshack.us/img221/4918/pcm0028p.jpg

No one wanted to chase but I thought he would die before the finish so I sent out Dzhus. He was keen for a break so I thought I'd let the youngster go.

img854.imageshack.us/img854/922/pcm0029h.jpg

But Romero held them off in a great ride.

img507.imageshack.us/img507/9089/pcm0030.jpg

Dzhus fnished on the same time as the bunch but managed to clinch 2nd! He was very happy. Kristov was 11th and not too dissapointed.
