Stage 02

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0006_zpsa59112e1.jpg

Today’s race was still flat, but this morning Stéphane told me he was not feeling good. We had to find someone else for the stage, Tony was our first choice but the profile scared him a bit. So we decided to protect Jan and Stéphane. Mickaël had to be in the breakaway today.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0004_zps99ba3a2b.jpg

As we ask him, Mickaël attacked in the early hours of the race, he was in the breakaway with three other riders.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0001_zpsf36f81a5.jpg

After the first mountain sprint, Tom Slagter joined the group.
Tom was riding fastly and Mickaël suffered a lot from the acceleration for the intermediate sprint. When he realized that it was over for him, he slow down waiting for the pack.

The pack took him at 17km from the end.

At 13km from the end, there was no breakaway anymore.

Jan asked Mickaël to bring him at the front of the pack, and right after passing by the last 10 km banner, Jan attacked.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0002_zps1939e3ec.jpg

The pack did not react but some other riders went off the pack.

At 3km from the end, Jan is joined by 9 riders, he rest a little for the sprint coming.

But in the last kilometer, Lieuwe Westra and Michael Matthews attacked , and the victory was for Westra. 12 sec later came the 7 others riders, Jan ended 5th.

First top 10 for the team, Jan thanks is team-mates and especially Mickaël for the work he did in the last kilometers.

The pack arrived 4min after the group so we can hope for a top 10 in the GC.

Stage 03

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0002_zps28b513a3.jpg

There is not much to say about this day, it ended in a mass sprint, Tony took the wheel of Davide Appollonio with Stéphane behind him. Boonen took first place, Stéphane is 5th.

Tony really worked hard to stay in the wheel of Appollonio and his work was rewarded with a 5th place for his sprinter.

Mickaël was tired because of his breakaway of yesterday so he stayed in the middle of the pack and he finished in the same time as Boonen

Today was an active stage for the team,

First, Nico Sijmens was in the breakaway which had been caught back only three kilometers before the line.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0005_zpsb2add51e.jpg

Secondly, Mickaël was felling good today and he decided to attack in the ten last kilometers, he soon joined Nico and he gave a new breath to the breakaway.

To end this great day, Tony was an incredible lead out man, Stéphane finished third behind Lloyd Mondory (1st) and Francisco José Ventoso (2nd). Tony also do great with a beautiful 15th place.

Stage 05

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0000_zps6d16e827.jpg

Today is short flat stage (69.2km). A short stage means a lot of agitation and after 20 km of race, Mickaël went done, nothing bad but he was a bit disoriented. After his fall, Mickaël did not have the same feelings than before the start.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0002_zpsd80a0a59.jpg

At the end of the stage Stéphane was in bad position, Nico brought Tony and Stéphane to the front a bit late, and when the sprint started, Stéphane was already far from the first riders, he managed to take the 10th place, with, again, a great work of Tony.

Stage 06

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0003_zpsd47aaa6b.jpg

The last stage was a short Time Trial,
It was the occasion for Jan to improve his place in the GC and for Mickaël to show the team what he can do alone on his bike.

Mickaël was the 4th rider of the team to start and Tony the 5th.
As soon as Yoann Bagot arrived in St Raby, he called the manager who stayed in Ales to tell him that the final climb was very important.
The Idea was to save energy during the flat part to give everything in the last climb.
When Mickaël arrived in St Raby, he was first in the temporary ranking.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0005_zps3c03104b.jpg

Tony who started soon after Mickaël finished 8sec late, he was 7th.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Etoile%20de%20Bessege/PCM0007_zps3183c337.jpg

The first one to beat Mickaël was Yohan Offredo. After the last rider to arrive, Mickaël was 6th so he signed is first top 10 in a pro race.

In parallel, Jan ended the Time Trial in 4th position. He offered the team it’s first top 5 in a stage race this year.

We took some pictures for the website so I give you the one of Mickaël and Tony.

Pretty good finishing time trial!

Ian Butler : yeah it's true, even if the result of Mickaël and Jan are not quite surprising, the one of Tony bluffed me because he is not supposed to be great in Time Trial Pfft

Race Report : Etoile de Bessège

The debriefing:

After 6 days of race it was time for me to have a discussion with Tony and Mickaël.

Tony was here to help Stéphane in getting some good results. Perhaps he did not win but with the names aligned on this race, a third, a fifth and a tenth place are good for a sprinter like Stéphane. Of course the two 15th place of Tony (4th stage and Time trial) are motivating for the future of this rider. He told me he was happy with his condition of lead out man and he does not really want to change of status right now. As his trainer I agreed that he does not fit in being the lead sprinter in race like that but perhaps in a lower category like .2 races. He will be part of “GP Ville de Lillers – Souvenir Bruno Comini” and “Paris-Troyes” both of these races are 1.2 Races. But before that he has some other races planed like “Volta Ao Algarve”.

Mickaël was here in order to prepare his form for the cobbled races coming soon. As a good rider on flat, he had been part of some lead out train. During the second stage he was in the breakaway and in the fourth one he attacked the sprinters in the last 10 kilometers. He also had an astonishing Time trial rewarded with a 6th place at the end of the day. Thanks to his great result in the Time trial, he managed to be 14th in the General Ranking. His future is planed also as a preparation for the cobbled race so he will ride with Tony la “Volta Ao Algarve” with a Time Trial in the last stage of the race.

The team in General did well in this race. Except for the first stage, in each stage we had a rider in the Top 10. The 5th place of Jan was not planed but very welcomed because we will need some good result in the aim of getting a World Tour Licence Next Year.

I give you the final Ranking:

Race Report : Volta ao Algarve

After a good “Tour Mediterranéen” with the 7th place of Jérome Coppel and the Mountain jersey for Romain Hardy, here start the second race for Tony and Mickaël.

Stage 01

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0001_zps7ace2dbb.jpg

Today’s stage was a hilly one. Our team did not really want to work because some other teams have stronger squad than ours. The problem is that nobody really worked in the pack so we decided to help in the chase. We never caught the breakaway and during the last 10km, some riders of the pack tried to join them but without success.
Today’s winner is Leonardo Duque. With the work of our team, he finished in the same time as everyone. Adrien Petit is 16th in the final ranking of the stage.

Stage 02

It was a very hard stage today, the pack was fast and the wind was, most of the time, coming from the left.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0004_zps91416ad0.jpg

In the early hours of the stage Mickaël decided to attacked, he won the two intermediate sprints. He did not stay alone long because he was soon join by Vincenzo Nibali Astana), Edgar Pinto (LA Aluminios – Antarte) and Jonas Ahlstrand (Argos).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0005_zps961faf2c.jpg

When Nibali attacked the group to take some mountain points, Mickaël was too weak to follow. When he understood that he would not join them again he slow down waiting for the pack.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0007_zps7a1b703e.jpg

Marco Marcato took the win today even if Romain Zingle tried to attack in the end of the stage.

After the fall of a rider after the line because of some journalists, I don’t have any pictures of the finish for today.

And By the way, Adrien will wear the young jersey tomorrow

Stage 03

Very cold stage : 4°C

Today, Tony and Mickaël wanted to be in the breakaway.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0002_zpsfc058087.jpg

Tony attacked first but too early, the pack did not let him go and after all the energy he spent in trying to escape, he just gave up his idea.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0003_zps3272401c.jpg

Mickaël, as yesterday, was again successful. After some try he managed to go off the pack with two other riders.

The pack did not seem really interested in chasing the breakaway, they had 5’15” at 30km from the finish line, but in the 15 last kilometers, the pack increased its speed and the breakaway were paying their earlier effort, only Sébastien Minard resist the pack and cross the line 34” before the pack. Romain Zingle and Rein Taaramäe are at 28” from Marco Marcato (Vacansoleil).

Stage 04

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Volta%20Ao%20Algarve/PCM0003_zps0b961a05.jpg

Today was a plan to be rest day before the time trial but sprinter’s team decided otherway.

Edwig Cammaerts managed to be in the first breakaway of the day but because of too many attacks, the pack decided to end all breakaway. The second try was successful but no rider of the team managed to leave.

It was a normal flat race, the pack caught the breakaway few kilometers before the line. Adrien had good legs today for the sprint but after a collision with a lotto rider, he was back in the middle of the pack, Tony tried everything to brought Adrien back at the front, but he only get a 26th place. While Adrien was strugguling, Mickaël was protecting Romain Zingle (he finished 14th).

The stage goes to Leonardo Duque, it is his second win in this race.
