Indeed. Real fan.
Hopefully, we won't have to wait that long for a win this time.
Thanks to everyone for your nice comments, I'm delighted to bring this story back from the dead, so let's hope my computer doesn't commit suicide this time. |

Pretty nice calendar. Bibby will be disappointed about the few races in Britain, though, but all in all some very nice races he'll enter |

National Championships

The 2013 season kicked off this week with the National Championships Down Under. Team NetApp Endura had just one rider taking part as Dempster tried to give the team a great start. Despite his poor shape, Zakkari rode across to the breakaway on the first lap of the course in Buninyong. There, he joined Rogers (Saxo Bank - Tinkoff), Morton (Garmin) and Will Clarke (Argos - Shimano), as the foursome began to put a big gap between them and the rest.
With the lead at over forty minutes, it was pretty obvious they would stay away and so the games started amongst the leaders. Both Rogers and Morton tried to get away and as soon as they were brought back, the young Garmin rider went again. This time, nobody could follow and he soloed to the win by over three minutes to take the green and gold jersey. In the sprint for second, Dempster and Rogers were both left behind by Clarke but Zakkari was able to claim the final step on the podium. None of the others reached the finish!

Meanwhile, in the TT, Dempster, despite being a decent rider against the clock, stood no chance against the quality field that had assembled in Ballarat. In the end, he finished over two and a half minutes behind the winner, young Luke Durbridge of Orica, who comfortably saw off veterans Rogers, Evans and Sutherland.

| 1 | Luke Durbridge | Orica - GreenEdge | 44'09 | | 2 | Michael Rogers | Team Saxo - Tinkoff | + 37 | | 3 | Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 4 | Rory Sutherland | Team Saxo - Tinkoff | + 43 | | 5 | Cameron Meyer | Orica - GreenEdge | + 49 | | ... | | 14 | Zakkari Dempster | Team NetApp - Endura | + 2'32 |
Meanwhile, in New Zealand, Sergent took the TT title, while Greg Henderson won a bunch sprint in the road race to take the jersey.

Brilliant Barta Beats the Rest in Argentina
Team NetApp Endura began their 2013 season in fine style as six riders took on the brutal heat of the Tour de San Luis in Argentina. With the seven day race having three tough mountainous stages and a time trial, it was always going to be an early season test for the stage racers who had assembled here. As it was, Jan Barta was in superb form, taking two stage wins on his way to a narrow victory over Sky's Christian Knees.
After Kluge had a couple of shots at the bunch sprints in the opening two stages, neither of which were particularly successful, stage three finished at the top of a short but steep hill, where Barta finished fourth, losing just under forty seconds to Arroyo (Caja Rural) and Knees. But this changed in the TT on stage four, with Barta finishing third to move ahead of Arroyo but remaining behind Knees, who finished just ahead of him in second. The winner? Paul Voss had a great day and beat his compatriot by just one second to take the team's first victory.
The next two stages were both over very tough mountain terrain and, despite not having any team mates to help him, Barta was magnificent, winning the slightly downhill sprint on stage five before outpunching everyone on the brutally steep Mirador Del Sol to take the win by just twelve seconds. The Czech rider also just took the points jersey. What a great start to the season!

Huzarski Battles Hard in Mallorca
Team NetApp Endura took part in their first European race of the year on the Spanish island of Mallorca for the four day test against world class opposition. The first two stages were flat and were absolute disasters for the team as Schorn got boxed in on both stages and couldn't get anywhere near stage winner Andre Greipel of Lotto Belisol. After that the riders hit the hills for some serious climbing.
Iker Camano was aggressive on both stages as he got into the breakaway two days in a row but he wasn't able to compete with the strong riders here as Astarloza took the King of the Mountains classification. Then, Luca Paolini dropped everyone on the final stage to take the overall as the peloton left it too late to bring him back. Behind, Bartosz Huzarski had a solid race as he came home in the front group on each stage to finish seventh overall, albeit with the same time as fifth-placed man Rui Costa. A great start to his season and to NetApp Endura's European campaign.
