First big test for Andreas Klöden who wants to repeat his victory from 2000. The race is also very important for our sponsor, who want us to finish at leat in the top3 of the general classification.

Strong finish by Liberty Seguros, but what a great day for Ivanov. He was the only rider who could follow the attack while Kloden couldn't stay on the wheel of his teammate. Ivanov now on second in the overall classification, Kloden lost 42 seconds, but still 1'10'' behind Moos.

Absolutely no chance to gain the needed seconds for the overall win. Anyway, we're very lucky with the 2nd place by Ivanov and the 11th by Klöden. But, if we would have chased Moos at the 2nd stage Ivanov would have won...

Some weird bug here. Was simulating the first stage with detailed simulation and by clicking forward almost the whole pack abondoned. Resulting in just sprinters and flat riders remained in the race and fighting for the race win. Sadly there is no further reason to report this race besides giving you the endresult.

Report:

Already the first day buried our ambitions. Ullrich, not quite in form yet, lost 13 minutes to the winner of the stage. Even he attacked a couple of times he couldn't ride himself back into the top 10. At least Baumann won the sprint in the 2nd stage.

Giro d'Italia 2006: Who follows Savoldelli?

Welcome to the Pre-Giro presentation of the Year 2006. The most important news at first. Last years winner Paolo Savoldelli doesn't compete on this occasion. So we will definitely having a new winner at the end of the race. But before we take a look at this years favourites, here's the route of the race.

images2.gazzettaobjects.it/static_images/ciclismo/giroditalia/2012/planimetria_generale.jpg

Race favourites

Gilberto Simoni (36) - Saunier Duval
The 36-years-old italian rider and national hero is a big favourite in winning the race. He won the Giro already on two occasions and came in 2nd position in last years event. The showed some form at the Tour the Romandie as he finished on the podium there.

Danilo Di Luca (30) - Liquigas
The winner of the overall Pro-Tour standings last year is also looking for some great results here. Winner of the Tour de Romandie in late April and 3rd place in Tirreno-Adriatico symbolize a strong early season for him.

Damiano Cunego (24) - Lampre
The young and rising star of italian cycling and former winner of the Giro is trying to repeat his victory from 2004. Till now he had a moderate season, finishing 7th in Paris-Nice and 8th in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Surely we will see him doing better at this race.

Alexandre Vinokourov (32) - Liberty Seguros
The popular rider from Kazachastan is the biggest non-italian name here. Everybode knows of what he's capable of, but the big questions remains: Is he aiming the overall win or is he preparing for the Tour.

Carlos Sastre (31) - Team CSC
Same for Sastre. Going as team leader into the race for Team CSC we can surely expect a good result from him. Of course, if he doesn't prepare for the Tour.

Alejandro Valverde (26) - Caisse d'Epargne
The young spanish rider and 3rd place finisher of the Amstel Gold Race is the secret favourite of many experts. In 2005 he showed his climbing skills as he won the stage to Courchevel and beating Lance Armstrong. Now we can expect another great results, can't we?!

Floyd Landis (30) - Phonak
Another big non-italian name, but he looks definitely preparing for the Tour. Just 8 race days this season, none noteable results. But who knows, Landis is still a rider to watch out for.

Michael Rasmussen (31) - Rabobank
Probably the best climber on earth at this time, but like Landis a quite season so far. Anyway, I would be suprised if we don't see a suizide-attack from him and some good days in the mountains.

Our main goal is a Top 10 GC-Position. With Mazzoleni, Guerini and Honchar we have at least 3 riders who could achieve something like that. Besides that, we want at least 1 stage win.
