I think people are over thinking the first come/first served policy. You should get 95% of your choices straight away, as SN said only 1 race last season had this problem.
Anyway, should be fun scouring the race planner for anything resembling a slight incline!

Went pretty light on C1 races, because I already have two HC races where I am going to pretty much slaughtered  .

Race participation?I guess i will be doing complete planning today rather than tommorow. 
What i would like in possible ties is sponsor region focus, as only problem for me can be denial of a race very important for my sponsors.

No it costs nothing and gives 20 experience regardless of level. Providing a rider is not riding in a race which has a clash with Avenir, they can ride it.

Do I just put a 1 in all the races I want and the number of race days it covers eg. Tour Dl'Ain 6?

Put a 1 in the currently empty box besides each race, yes
