No, I was talking about "football", not football
baseballlover312, 06-03-14 : "Nuke Moscow...Don't worry Russia, we've got plenty of love to go around your cities"
Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"
Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!

Why are we talking about USA "football" again?
it should be obvious that we're talking about soccer, I mean look at the title. I don't even think football has a World Cup and even if it has, is it even this year and last but surely the most important one. football has nothing to do with the FIFA
What does FIFA stand for?
Actually Luigi, we are talking about football. The fact they call a sport where they use their hands to throw a weirdly shaped ball with their hands football just doesn't make sense... (I do like american football though )
I think it's called football because the "ball" is a foot long. |

or maybe, because the ball has the shape of a foot...ok there are massive amounts of imagination involved...but just try to imagine a foot, and a "football" and then compare them with each other!

That American Football is called football because of Rugby football (the best football you can see).
But they kick the ball in American Football.. but not that much - so they should kick more drop goals!
Everytime Löw plays the false nine.. Well I don't know what to say anymore.
Basically leading the game but still no score but there could have been at least 2 already.
I wish more teams would play a narrow 4-3-3 with just full backs as the players on the wing position because why not.

I don't even know why this is a thing
Footbal = can be multiple things
Soccer = only one thing

Heynckes, übernehmen Sie!
Defense remains a total enigma under Löw, and while there were some great offensive plays, they seemed rather random in their structure. False Nine still does not work for Germany, at least not in the way Löw imagines it. But I don't think he even fully knows what he wants with it. It'd been a great match to test Volland alongside the A-squad, but noo... one more failed experiment, that is what the team needs, because there are so many matches left to played. Looks like Löw won't know - again - which team will be his A-squad at the tournament and he will keep rotating until it falls apart.
Kroos with some great long passes for the offense, but those work best when they surprise... not when you do them in today's staccato-displayed frequency at times.
Durm is a great left back, definitely needs to start. Boateng shouldn't play on the right back, he's a central defender. No idea what Özil is still doing in the N11.
EDIT Oh yeah, Müller seems to be gearing up for yet another top scorer trophy at the World Champioships. He's gettin' hungry.

Sane four but
1. Netherlands
2. Germany
3. Spain
4. Brazil
More hopes than expectations.
And Brazil will not get into the Final.

I think Belgium will struggle- to be honest, they had a relatively easy qualifying group, and even if they top the group they'll have a big test in the second round- I can't see them getting past that.

I can't see how van Gaals 3 man defense can work against a fluid 4231 system which basically has 3 strikers. But he will dominate the middle and with 2 strikers and teams playing just 2 central defenders he might do some damage there.
For me the big favourites are Spain, I can't see why so many people are saying it's Brazil or Germany.
Also seeing yesterdays test against Cameroon.. When they played that false nine (with Götze in front and Özil behind) it absolutely hasn't worked out, a lot of ball possession, some chances but not a goal.
When Schürrle and Podolski came in these 2 had made direct impact playing then the 4-2-3-1 when Müller was then in front. 1st goal a Müller header (what a great player he is) and the 2nd (offside) goal with Podolski passing to Schürrle.
Also I hope Löw doesn't use Boateng on the right, the 2 goals against came from his side when he never attacked the ball leading player. I hope Lahm doesn't get wasted in the midfield (even though he can play it), a world class defender needs to play in a defense that isn't that great. But if the starters are Durm, Hummels, Mertesacker and Lahm I don't see that it is that weak.
My groups:
Group A: Brazil has to advance then it's hard to choose between Croatia and Mexico but I guess Mexico will make it. Interesting that the last groups match is Croatia vs. Mexico.
Group B: Well Spain is clear but then Netherlands or Chile. If van Gaal plays a 3 men defense against Chiles 3-3-4 (or 3-3-1-3 or 3-4-3 depending on how they press) thats not going to end good. I think Chile will advance, and also here the last match is between the Netherlands and Chile.
Group C: A weird group but I think Colombia and Japan will advance.
Group D: Well Italy as a tournament team should definately advance but England or Uruguay.. I think Uruguay makes it.
Group E: I think France (even if they are bad) and Swi
tzerland advance. But if there isn't a good mood in France' team I think they make again the early exit.
Group F: Well Argentina is clear but behind.. Nigeria isn't that good so I guess Bosnia will make it.
Group G: Germany and Portugal. But I wouldn't underestimate the US.
Group H: Well even though they are for me too overhyped Belgium advances.. Then I think South Korea will advance as the 2nd team.
Now going correctly though the KO stages I have:
Final Germany - Spain, 3rd place Brazil - Argentina.
1st Spain
2nd Germany
3rd Brazil
4th Argentina

'We' don't play a 3-men defence, but 5-3-2. Backs are offensive, but not offensive enough to be part of the forwards

It might be good against a false nine system but 5-3-2 looks weird
Meanwhile Löw has decided it might be good to just go into the tournament having 1 left full back, 1 striker and 500 midfield players.
He really sent Mustafi (ok one of the defenders had to go), Volland (striker) and Schmelzer (left full back) home.
I hope Löw makes place for someone else after the tournament as there has to be a new wind going through the team.

That can't happen since Brazil (if they win their group which they should) will play the second ranked team in the spain-netherlands-chile group. |
