Yes it was..I was expecting to Boonen and Steegmans duo to be most dangerous and harder to beat... all the sprinters and riders wich had mountain stats lower than 72..couldn't keep up on those hills. there I also noticed that victim was also Hoste..impossible to follow Liquigas tempo. |

I think it's weird because I've never had the peloton break like that on that race before the last two climbs. so there was never any problem with the HIL stat.
and believe me, I tried that race a bunch of times

That sord of breal is my goal all the time..almost every time I practice..that I move in front in every hill..and make a hard pull (sacrifise few riders)...peloton getting longer and longer..when it's finaly splits. Split happens almost all the time..
When it happens other teams also notice that..hey we getting away..and moving front to help with high tempo.

I've used the same tactic myself a few times, but I usually didn't get much help from other teams...

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 1
Urretxu - Urretxu

What a fun stage we have to ride today..as Evans is out of form and this race will be to him just get some race km. and keep up with he's plans to be in decent form in Suisse tour and super form in TdF...team leader role will carrie again Chris Horner. Also I need to give some program for that tour..top 10 in that list will be fine. He is in decent shape and I have serious thought to send him also to Giro..to make nice even double force with Cioni. But afraid to run him out before TdF..where also Evans will be creatful at get some help in the mountains...specialy if he maybe takes a yellow. Dont decided that yet..it's still time to think.

65km. is the mark where action starts..Valverde opens the game (I also have reasins to admire that startlist - Leipheimer, Contador, Brjakovic, Gomez Marchante, Piepoli, Di Luca, Kasetshkin, Evans, F.Schleck..amazing list)...no chanche.

..just a moment later Pena and Contador..still nothing...just seems that Cadel suffering a little..Horner feeling just great.

..next attempt..this time Gomez Marchante and Redondo...peloton finishing also this atempt soon.

Only four riders are left in early breakaway group..Spezialetti, Calzati, Moletta and Zampieri..still 50km. to go..this is gonna hard for them..peloton closing slowly but clearly.

Piepoli is atacked almost in every hill top..he just cant hide he's plans ..he is after climber jersey.

15km. to go F.Schleck atacks...also UCI protour individual leader Sanchez Gonzales..there is no second thought..this is moment of today. Horner atacks and trys to keep up with two hills superstars...Di Luca follows, aslo Rebellin. Only point I had was..maybe Horner hurting himself to much with to strong group.

Downhill section..Schleck has some gap between the Sanchez Gonzales and Horner. But they are closing ..and thanks to Euskaltel rider...who is still in super form after he's amazing march.

3,5km. to and they come back together...this far for over. hardest part..uphill finish still ahead.

Happens what I expected...Sanchez Gonzales and Schleck is just to fast when they start's uphill sprint. Horner 3rd. ...this is even over my expetation's..and very nice first step ..to achive goal-finishing in GC top 10.

Flat riders should be love it..few small hill's in first, but sprinters should manage well over those.

63 km. to go..and Verheyen and Barry trying a breakaway at small uphill section.

..next attempt..25km. to go.. Kolobanev opens that attempt. Weseman follows,Etlink, Ferrara. This is also van Summeren to chanche ..to try something before the sprint.

van Summeren who has known has exelent flat "diesel" hits the gas..other riders have difficulty to follow..he get's 8 seconds gap..then 12..18. This is might work if he can keep up that grazy tempo.

Duval and Gerolsteiner trys to but also he's guys in breakaway..they send Mori and Zberg.

van Summeren..can he keep clear. Mori and Zberg cathes chase group.

10km. to go..Mori and Zberg make a good chase speed...van Summer seems to show first signs ..that this is might end after all not so good.

..here they come..sprint is on. This duo "bangs" away at rest of group..and closing fast.

 ...

10m. before the line...van Summeren still leads...

Photofinish..damn that was close. van Summeren get's he's second 2nd. place. That was fun and exiting..

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 2
Urretxu - Karrantza

Hilly stage..Horner need to protect he's 3rd. place..there will be possible lot of riders who like to atack on those last hills.

Molette,Zaragozi, Arroyo..gonna be in today's battle who gona take mountain jersey after todays race.

Rogers is also in today's breakaway group..but he had difficulty to follow Arroyo pace making on the hill..and he drops back.

Almost 100km. to go..all seems so far easy going. Euskaltel team has to protect tour leader Sanchez Gonzalez and moved 7 rider's in front to control the race.

75km. to go this more serious CSC team..has moved in front they planning something for Schleck today ..and this tempo is much faster peloton suffers...

CSC tempo is more then enough also for Cadel...he drops at elite group and has also difficulty follow second group..has good decender he catches them. dont worry he's not in on he's top form yet. More problems Horner who is still in front group..but he's morale today is realy low (-5)...he must be a little depressed about new..leader job.

5km. to go..this is the moment ation starts..has expected two main favorites Sanchez Gonzales and Schleck atacks..Cunego wants also to folllow...he cant keep up with first 2.

Jufre and Cioni are done he's job and helped Horner in perfect atack position...he doesnt feel today so good and dont want to take a risk..he stays in the peloton.

Ok..this is against Gonzalez and Schleck who's gonna wear leader jersey after finish.

Shleck opens the sprint and also finishes first..he has been today much stronger then Gonzalez...and takes leader jersey.

Bad day for Unibet and Pena..Pena had crashed in the last corner. Unibet rider badest tactical race has possible he wa dropped earlyer in the group and trys to make it back in last climb...but damn he is to exited and crashed.

GENT - WEVELGEM

Leif Hoste
Fred Rodriquez
Björn Leukemans
Robbie McEwen
Tom Steels
Stefano Zanini
Wim Vansevenant
Greg van Avermaet
Again Robbie made some problems to me..this time he definatly wanted to be in that squad to get some protour points. Team owners almost made me left Roy Sentjens out and Robbie in...I'm sry. to dissapoint team owners..they dont gonna be like Robbie's final place after race..Robbie is one of the world best sprinter..but he's additude on this season is terrible..I'm starting to be worried about he's main goal TdF green.

GENT - WEVELGEM

classic...most of all I should afraid already well known flat-cobble riders on this race. Boonen is clearly out of form..biggest threat from Quickstep will be Bettini and Steegmans. CSC is always strong..maybe Hincapie and Flecha..Pippo ofcorse he ha been super form lately.

Quickstep chanches are even worse then before the race...(this season more and more reminding me reality..how weak Quickstep was in spring)

We see chase group Gusev moves in front in cobble section and at the first climb..at 60km. to go mark..he drag with max. speed and lot's of favorites who dont have placed in front places are split victims...
We get Gusev, Cancellara, Leukemans, Hoste and four Rabo riders (Flecha, Heeswijk, Boven and van Bon)..Rabo team wbat to ue this opportunity and they moving to the front and keep up with high speed. Dont know what Hinapie will think after team mate Gusev such a move.

Cancellara hits the gas...Hoste stays in the group..with Rabo riders. Cancellara is strong today..

CSC trio who had also team leader Cancellara in main group already want to get 3 man in that group also to help a leader (Michaelsen, Brechel, Ljunqvist)...T-mobile makes the third group with Hincapie and Boonen.

Next one who trying to sneak away is Flecha..this time Hoste dont wait anymore..he is back of the group. He give everything he got to chase him down...

This was hard and needed big effort (lets hope that he has something left in the sprint)..but finaly he did it. He is now with Flecha. Flecha's tempo is exelent..gap between Cancellara (1'07)...stops and start's to decrease.

Gusev started also he's chase..dont think so, he is already to much behind.

Just 4km. to go..Fleha knows he has nothing to with sprint after so big effort against Hoste..he give now everything he's got..and this works. Hoste cant follow...he ha to admire Flecha today..who has been so strong in this season cobble races but always has lost he's chanches in final sprint.

Cancellara did it..great win. Flecha 2nd. and Hoste 3rd. I would say this was so far Hoste season best ride. Well done..those 3 will be aginst each other again in Robaix..cant wait.
Leukemans position was little dissapointment..but he did most of the work to help Hoste has long as possible. Zanini...normal ride again.
Robbie - 75. and +14'00...I told you so..

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 3
Karrantza - Vitoria-Gazteiz

Today stage should by quite easy to Horner..to protect he's 3rd. spot..just in case need to be careful at the last hill.

Today stage has been easy for peloton...there was a several breakaway activity after the start bbut CSC with Euskaltel controling the race well. 60 km. to go Rodriquez oliver (Caisse) last and hopless atempt to go fo solo win.

Atack on the last hill Colom, horner and also Paulinho has got small advantage before peloton..no escape chanche today. This gonna end with sprint today.

here they come lorenzo Bernucci opens the sprint..but wach this white jersey on he's right. Uci rank leader Sanchez Gonzales want today take back GC leader position from F.Schleck

..and he did it clear win..and back in yellow again.

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 4
Vitoria-Gazteiz - Lekunberri

Protect..protect. Horner still in third place after 3 stages..lets hope that he can continou same way..and dont forget 14km. TT still to ride..

Disco star Contador is down...this is at the early stage of race. He even dont need extra help for get back in the group.

Piepoli and Pereiro atacks...peloton is clearly in panic. No this was just another atack for mountain points.

Last climb..and again 2. tour megastars just jumped out of the peloton.. Horner was ready, but stil he thought that will be madness follow this double.

..then Ricco, Paulinho and Horner. If he wants to keep he's yellow he should follow.

Heck..Horner is a little difficulty. Kirchen passes also Cunego and Nocentini. Ricco has also gone...In short downhill and last km. he can push hard enough to join that group again...that was close to loose beautiful GC spot.

Same time in front...Sanchez Gonzales opens the sprint and Schleck follows. At hill peak Schleck counters and he get's small advantage.

Schleck takes a win..now we get 2-2 with wins...Nice battle between those 2. But this time Sanchez Gonzales keeps the yellow...one stage and TT still to ride. this is not over.

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 5
Lekunberri - Oiartzun

Last stage...Horner still in 3rd. lets keep that this way.

Early breakaway group still moving fast in front...Halgand (who has been activ almost every day); Pasamontes; Miquez; Martinez; Calzati..also we can see that mountain jersey owner Moletta cant follow with Broni.

Arroyo makes he's move..he is alone this is not gonna work...(belived or not..Caisse have so far only 2points and last position in UCI team table).

Halgand go's for solo..30km. to go..peloton closing fast this is gonna be tight battle.

Ok last climb..and here famous duo go's again. They always atack first but now one cant follow such strong atack. They passing moutain classification leader Moletta.

Horner chooses again group nr. 2...and pace wich should be ok.. Cunego; Di Luca; Kirchen; Rebellin and Horner.

At behind comes very strongly also best young cyclist Ricco...strong group is now formed and they try to chase Sanchez Gonzalez and Schleck at downhill section.

Here they come...this is great to wach, what a battle they had so far.

and chase group..

Oh grap...i didn't expect that. Gonzalez is down just 10km. before the finish..this is realy bad for him..he probably loose he's jersey and GC win also in that same crash.

Di Luca trys to awoid hiting a Gonzalez..he cant make it and he has also down...

And wach this madness when peloton came in high speed..mass crash.

5km. to go..today even Schleck should be worried..he is alone against realy strong five.

Sprint..look what we have found at sprint coridor Halgand..he must be very dissapointed..he was so close. Schleck..he's not gonna win today.

Ricco takes a win..Horner 4th. (I hate those out of podium places )...this is loke good Horner - if nothing terrible dont gonna happened tomorow he finishes in GC podium.
