That happened on Monday? or Tuesday... one of them. All i've seen since then is various tributes to Brian but nothing offering up the future of the show and how it will deal with this. That is going to be interesting the watch because it is a drastic change to the format.
Also a lot of commenting about it being in competition with the loss of Krabapal from the Simpsons. If so then wow, dumb ass move.

They've been planning for a few months to kill off one of the main characters, it's not a response for the Simpsons. Take it with a grain of salt, but I read somewhere that Seth McFarlane thinks the show has run its course and is almost trying to drive fans away.

There's a Christmas episode soon, and in the last episode before Brian dies, Stewie uses his time machine (obviously before he destroys it) to go into the future to buy a toy. I think in the Christmas episode Stewie will go searching for himself at the toystore and warn the Stewie that had travelled from t he past about what happens to Brian, thus possibly saving him.
