Paris - Roubaix! I never thought I will ever ride this race after so successful times in the mountains. I'm feeling good today. I don't think top 20 (goal from my team management) is possible to achieve, but who knows? It's my first time here.
We are on the first cobble section!
116 km - Cobbles are already making this race hard. A lot of riders dropped.
This is probably the most famous cobble section in the world - Trouee d'Arenberg!
Wow. I'm already dropped - 76 kms to go.
That's a big group of riders that caught me. Oh my.
It doesn't look like it's going to be my favourite race of the year.
10 km - I don't even know how much behind I'm. Definitely not in the top 20.
Velodrome! Right behind the top 20. This wasn't my best race. I'll definitely try to improve my place next year, but I need to be in much better shape. It wasn't bad, but also not good enough.

Now something easier. A hilly classic, but definitely not that hard as Paris-Roubaix.
No more breakaway - 41 kms to go.
10 km - Still a big group of riders in the peloton.
Attack by J. Keukeleire! Can he do it?
No! It was looking good for me for the first few seconds after I launched my sprint. But then I was outsprinted by few faster riders.
Top 15:

Another hilly classic, but this time with a bit of cobbles. It looks interesting! Especially since I'm one of the main favourites here!
We are on the first cobble section. That harder part of the race...
30 km - I made the pace much higher on the cobble sections. Because of that only 22 riders are in the front group. The breakaway still up front.
Breakaway is now caught - 18 km.
7 km - Last two cobble sections. Everything will decide right here!
3 km - I have a small lead! Can I finally win a cobbles classic?
It's still not over yet. Me vs Sagan vs Matthews.
Peter Sagan! That was a really hard sprint, but he was a better rider here.

We are done with cobbles - for now - but not done with hills! Ardennes! That means Amstel Gold Race! Sadly no Liege-Bastogne-Liege since our team didn't have an invitation for that race.
This isn't really selective classic so far. 38 kms to go and the front group is still pretty big.
Cauberg - 21 km.
The breakaway is over now - 11 kms to go. I'm pretty well placed.
3.4 km! It's close now!
That last Cauberg attempt was really hard. I was well positioned, but when many riders started to attack I couldn't do much. I can be satisfied with that place. My team was hoping I can finish in the top 50. 12th place is much better than that!
Top 15:
1 Michal Kwiatkowski Team INEOS 6h59'29 2 Julian Alaphilippe Deceuninck - Quick-Step s.t. 3 Maximilian Schachmann Team Sunweb s.t. 4 Mathieu Van Der Poel Corendon - Circus s.t. 5 Peter Sagan CCC Pro Team s.t. 6 Lilian Calmejane Team Total Direct Energie s.t. 7 Tim Wellens Lotto Soudal s.t. 8 Michael Woods EF Education First s.t. 9 David Gaudu Groupama - FDJ s.t. 10 Bernt Charton Wanty - Gobert Cycling Team s.t. 11 Davide Formolo Mitchelton - SCOTT s.t. 12 Claudio Rusconi Team Arkéa - Samsic s.t. 13 Xandro Meurisse Wanty - Gobert Cycling Team s.t. 14 Jakob Fuglsang BORA - hansgrohe s.t. 15 Michael Valgren Team Dimension Data s.t.
Now a very similar classic to Amstel. La Fleche Wallonne! Except Cauberg - Mur de Huy. Everything will decide right there!
After one of the short climbs, only 21 riders were in the front group - 25 km.
2nd group is really close as we catch the last breakaway rider - 20 km.
Ah crap! I'm really blocked now!
Mur de Huy! Who can win it?
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm either too weak, or they are too strong. Again I can be happy with my performance. My team again expected me to finish inside top 50. I finished this classic right behind the top 10. It's good enough I guess?

We are ending a classic season for some time. Are you happy? The last one before few stage races is another WT classic. Something for sprinters, but with few interesting climbs.
12.5 km - On those climbs - which you can see on the profile - I decided to setup a strong pace. The peloton includes only 70 riders after my work.
Many riders tried their luck with an attack. This is looking actually interesting with 1.5 km to go. And that happened completely out of nowhere.
Oh my! What a victory right here! Not many sprinters were able to take part in the sprint because of my work on those climbs. Just look at the results! I'm really happy with that win.

We are in Yorkshire - flat stage to open this race.
I wasn't feeling well today so my final sprint also wasn't best.
Top 15:
1 Hugo Hofstetter Team INEOS 4h23'42 2 Kaden Groves Mitchelton - SCOTT s.t. 3 Baptiste Planckaert Deceuninck - Quick-Step s.t. 4 Matteo Malucelli Caja Rural - Seguros RGA s.t. 5 Oliver Naesen Corendon - Circus s.t. 6 Alberto Dainese Bahrain - Merida s.t. 7 Ulises Alfredo Castillo Team Katusha Alpecin s.t. 8 Alexander Kristoff Team Wiggins s.t. 9 Gert-Jan Bosman Wanty - Gobert Cycling Team s.t. 10 Xandro Meurisse Wanty - Gobert Cycling Team s.t. 11 Abdul Gani W52 / FC Porto s.t. 12 Willi Willwohl Astana Pro Team s.t. 13 Claudio Rusconi Team Arkéa - Samsic s.t. 14 Esteban Cháves Mitchelton - SCOTT s.t. 15 Ben Swift SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling s.t.
The route in Yorkshire isn't very challenging, but those hills can create some gaps in GC. First out of two hilly stages ends with an uphill finish.
I'm one of the outsiders for today. We are on the bottom of the final climb.
They all have started that climb on the very high note. I tried my best, but I wasn't able to deliver. I finished 6th.

Another flat stage in Yorkshire. I'm currently 7th in GC, and since my goal for this race is top 10, I'm probably safe.
M. Padun completely shocked every sprinter in this race. His briiliant move in the final 2 km gave him a victory.

Last stage of this race is again hilly, but with an easier finish than on stage 2. I'm 8th in GC so still holding my top 10.
10 km - My team-mate is managing the tempo for me.
Only those 9 riders will be fighting for the stage win here.
I'm not that fast in those types of finishes.

It wasn't a bad race for me, but also not very good. I finished 10th in GC. Something my team was expecting me to achieve.

After a pretty long break between stage races, we are coming back to mountains. Short race but with two really hard mountain stages. We start with a flat terrain for who ever is the fastest from the peloton.
The peloton made a stupid mistake of giving me a bit of space right before I launched my sprint. I'm not the fastest in the world but I'll use every chance they will give me to win.
Top 15:

Finally some mountains! I have W. Barguil to help me so we should be safe to retain our GC leader jersey.
We are on the bottom of the Col de Menthieres.
W. Barguil managing the tempo.
4 km - Few riders decided to attack but we both are still right behind them. I need to go alone now.
Sadly we weren't able to catch those two. W. Barguil did an awesome job and because there weren't any time differences, I'm still a leader in GC.

Short stage that ends on Grand Colombier.
Grand Colombier - the average of 7.2% - 17 km. My team-mates are managing the tempo.
5 km - We are a bit tired and I don't feel so good today.
The breakaway will fight for the stage victory.
I can be really happy with my performance with how I was feeling today. I finished 4th on stage but 1st from the main favourites.

I'm in the good shape, but my form is out of my calendar probably. I wasn't feeling well in those mountain stages and even that I actually won this race and grab a stage win, I need to hope that in my next start I'll be feeling better.

Our team obtained an invitation for Dauphine! Since I'm going to France for le Tour I decided that my presence at Dauphine might be a good training. We start this race with a short ITT.
It was a decent performance. It wasn't pure flat terrain so I didn't lose much time here.

2nd stage ends with a hilly finish. Whole race except stage 5 is going to be a fight in the GC.
5 km - This is the moment we start the final climb for today. I crashed on the early kms and it costed me a lot of energy to comeback to the peloton.
Like I thought. I didn't have enough energy for final sprint and I finished 10th.

This stage looks like a sprint for sprinters, but that final uphill to the finish can be a factor of who is going to win this stage.
I was really surprised of how fast I was on the final sprint. I finished on the very good 2nd place and now I'm 6th in GC.

Another ITT. This time it's much longer and harder than the first one. I'm really afraid of how much time I'll lose. Either way my team goal for this stage is the top 30.
I was caught my C. Froome.
That was a very big amount of time that I lost today.

The most difficult part of trying to finish in the top 15 is now over. I lost a lot of time but I know that on the next stages I can gain some of it. Maybe a top 10 is still possible but a podium is completely out now.

We are now starting some sort of mountains here. Stage categorized as hilly, but with a decent summit finish.
13 km - We almost are on the bottom of Les Gets - 10 km with the average of 5%.
J. Alaphilippe with a powerful attack with less than 4 kms to go!
The situation is very interesting. I'm right behind Alaphilippe. P. Perichon is the only rider from the breakaway still going first. And I have a small lead over next group behind. Who is going to win it?
J. Alaphilippe is king of those finishes, but I was really close to grab a stage win.

The situation in GC right before two mountain stages. I'm now 8th. Who knows? Maybe I was wrong? Maybe I can still gain some places?
