Rujano on the podium? Okay, let's call it a day and wrap up the Vuelta. We're all happy with the result at this point right?

Marzano should help Trofimov limiting his losses god damit. That was not good team work.

Well, I guess this time around he did. Good team work. Just one monster stage left now for Trofimov to try to hold on. After that he should be able to take some time back on the hilly stage and TT stage.

Strange ride from Contador and Madrazo. Seems they can't exactly found out who is leader... No chance of top 10 now... 12th and 17th seems realistic, but one more goal missed due to a crappy crash!

Aaaahhhh....I really think Valverde needs that golden jersey to really hurt Benat. I don't think the gaps will be that great in the final TT - recovery and resistance stats should hopefully help Valverde. Can't complain about 3 stage wins either. Barring disaster, the team's goal here looks to be achieved. |

Another fine ride by Intxausti, but based on whats to come, he really needs to beat Valverde in the next stage

Oh, and mb must be enjoying the fact that as well as having Abal in 9th, his loaned out riders are sat in 10th (Tenorio) and 14th (Madrazo). Already doing well, and next season theyll be even better.

Yeah, and Tenorio fell as well
Guerao taking a stage, the Vuelta has really given me confidence that I should be strong next year.

Good to see Intxausti be the one attacking Valverde today, and applying the pressure. And the end result, exactly to plan, beating Valverde. Would have been nicer to beat Valverde and get some time bonuses, but the fact that Valverde got no bonus is good enough. This ought to mean Intxausti leads into the hilly stage, which is crucial. Hilly Stage #1 showed that he can fight on the hills when leading the race.
Nice also to see Medvedev battling up there.
I guess the early move today was the last roll of the dice for Schleck. After the way he performed last year, Im surprised at how he has struggled to make a big impact this year - he only lost time due to a split in the back afterall, he didnt crash like Contador.

Yeh, youre in the great position if your promote, in that you probably wont even need to think about relegation worries. Its just a question of getting that promotion in the first place.

Yes - Vavlverde needed to grab the jersey today. Stats wise he should be able to hurt Intxausti in the hills. Didn't happen last time and I don't think it'll happen on the next hilly stage.
Valverde is a fast finisher - my big hope now is with the fairly weak sprint field Piti can take a bonus second or two on a flat stage and grab the jersey. Needs around 30s on Intxausti going into the final time trial I think.
Schleck lost his chance to win the Vuelta today. I was a bit alarmed when he broke away so early.
Good report on such a crazy stage. |

Agreed on the ~30 seconds. The gap was 40 seconds on the 31km TT, this is a 27 km TT, and Valverde has much superior recovery skills.
Im still fearful of the hills though, theres more chance of Valverde gapping Intxausti, than Intxausti repeating his above-par hills performance, imo.

very compelling race even if there haven't been big gaps. Schleck really has been surprising, but Domina will still have quite a point haul with Brajkovic up there too.
Great point on Santander, they really have assembled some great talents. A bit B&O like, all credit to mb.

3r and 4th will be nice ~same points if andy had won and janez not top 10

Well I did point out that Valverde might end as the winner and I still think he will do it. He will have a good chance on stage 18 and 19 to put some time on Inxtausti before the final time trial.
Valverde-Benat-Schleck will be the final podium

Not so very far from a bonus second. That stage was probably the best chance of getting one out of the flat ones.

Which would be very annoying. Wake up other sprinters! Keep going for it Trofimov! Better yet ... let the breakaway win!!

Phew, Valverde did everything but gain time there. Im surprised the AI is actually giving him leadouts though.
Interesting also to note that with Festina's drop, it means that the top 2 teams in the standings are the wildcards! Of course Its skewed in a sense, that the CT teams can pick their best riders with no race day limits, but still impressive - particularly when one of those wildcards is right towards the bottom end of the Continental standings.
