Does anyone have any experience with the Epiphone Casino?
It's on my top 3 of guitars I'd love to own, up there with Gibson Les Paul and the Stratocaster.

I don't. It is a nice sounding guitar however, and isn't really that expensive at all. Are you thinking of buying one?

I am considering it, as I mentioned it's one of the guitars I'd like to own. However, the other two are quite expensive so for me at the moment it's a better option.

If you've got the money you should go for it. But in saying that, waiting and saving for one of the more expensive guitars is definitely worth it. I Only recently got a strat after a bit of saving, and it's most definitely worth the wait. Quality better than I could have imagined.

A welsh reason for train delays.

It's not a money-problem, that's of on issue. It won't be for a couple of years anyway since I've got neighbours on both sides of me and I wanna spare them the pain I can use my acoustic, but an amp wouldbe too much for these thin walls.
I've always wanted a Strat (who hasn't?), but they cost a fair amount. I've looked in a couple of shops and the price for the Strat and Les Paul were both rougly 3-4 times as much as the Epiphone.

When it comes to guitars, I can only say: the better ones (Stratocaster!) are worth it. Buying a cheap, crappy guitar is a bad decision. You need a guitar that feels great, sounds great. You have to enjoy playing it, love the feel of it, only then you'll make real progress.
With a cheap guitar you're likely to toss it aside and get sick of playing the guitar.
Just my opinion |

Well, you can't really call a proper Epiphone Casino "cheap crappy". If it is then both Lennon, McCartney and Harrison sure had crap taste.

Hadn't read what guitar you were planning to buy (now I see it's on the previous page), just that it is cheaper. My bad. Though that was just general advice.
And yes, Lennon had crap taste (Yoko Ono!)

Well, it's gonna be in a few years anyway. Perhaps I'll go for both the Casino and the Strat

For a lack of a better thread, I am gonna throw this in here:
I had track training on tuesday ( a sprinters session just purely for speed) but I kinda did it half arsed, since all but one of my usual training partners have left my group and the one that stayed is not very fit at the moment. In short I wasnt concentrating on the session and wasnt happy with it afterwards (eventhough some people later told me that the form was pretty good etc.).
So as a way to make up for it (or better: punishment) I went to the gym yesterday doing an intense weight lifting workout, only to find out half an hour later that I was to lead the evening strength and conditioning session. So, taking all into account, I am in intense pain today and both sitting and standing (and obviously walking) causes me some sort of physical discomfort...
Happy Days!
Know that feeling.
You know that sometimes the pain may be delayed after hitting the weigths?
Did a pretty hard gym session on my legs in the afternoon, feeling was pretty good the next morning, so I went for a 1,5h run and was pretty tired in the evening. But the worst came the next morning when all the muscles in my legs were really painful and awfully stiff.
I have done this a couple of more times, really painful to move around but I can't not think: damn, a couple of days training well done.

I've read a study about this (aching muscles after hard training) a couple of months ago. I believe I got the link from B. Nave's twitter. For those who don't know him, he's Renshaw and many AG2R's trainer I believe. He's also a man who was Armstrong's masseur after his come back but couldn't see any sting mark, but I'll leave that for another day.
So, if I understood it properly, muscles ache so much because the body is exaggerating the stimulus it sends to the brain after an effort that is perceived as unusual (first time you run many km in a row after a period of not running, lifting significantly more weight than usually, etc.). The same amount of work will provide a much less intense stimulus (less pain) the next time, this without any difference in the muscles' state after each of the works sessions.
@cactus-jack : no matter how much I like the Beatles' work, I can't say I'm fond of their guitar sound, Harrison's "thin guitar" sound was quite peculiar. I enjoy the bluesy tone of Les Paul much more. The strat is great as well, but even I the sound transmits less emotion than a LP, regardless of the player. |
