JuanMotr - Glad you're taking the trouble of catching up! The Tour was a great experience Wink Your smell never let us down here!

krisa - If he keeps evolving like this, he'll get his shot to be among the great of history! But like Merckx or Coppi will be impossible, Stijn'll never climb well, unfortunately...

sutty68 - Thanks, he had great legs Wink

rogvi97 - Things are sure looking up!

Stijn Van Gent

Welcome!

I haven't been able to post the last couple of days. But I'm sure you followed the race on television. Anyway, here are the final results from the Eneco Tour!

Eneco Tour - Stage 6

I got caught in a nasty crash but it fell under the 3 km rule, no time lost!

I'm already over 70 (extremely intense) race days and at my age it's getting to me. I'm a bit too young to handle a season so intense and long. I'm losing my power. Meanwhile, Degenkolb is building form and looks ready for the Vuelta!

Young Rider: Stijn Van Gent
Best Team: Team Argos - Shimano.

Well, that's it! An amazing victory in a stage race! With a daring attack in the fourth stage, I managed to hold on all the way to the final time trial! After Fabian Cancellara in 2012, I win the Eneco Tour in 2013! Also a brilliant race for Jan Ghyselinck!

Here the flash interview after the final stage:

Interviewer: Stijn Van Gent, first off, congratulations on your impressive win.
Stijn Van Gent: Thanks, thanks a lot!
Interviewer: After an impressive and all-destroying attack in the fourth stage, you took the reins of this race. Was that the plan from the start?
Stijn Van Gent: We didn't really have a plan. In these races there are endless possibilities and it's impossible to predict what will happen. I thought it was the right moment and I turned out to be right! The team did the rest!
Interviewer: It's been an amazing season for you so far. How does this victory fit in?
Stijn Van Gent: Well, you could say it's the icing on the cake! I've enjoyed a injury-less season and I've been performing on the level for the entire season. I hope I can finish it in style in the Tour of Britain.
Interviewer: Okay, you can go to the podium, thank you very much!
Stijn Van Gent: Thanks!

Next up is the Dutch Food Valley Classic!

Jesleyh - Thanks!

Marcovdw - Try to wave when he passes by your house Grin

sutty68 - Thanks! He carried his form from the Tour!

Jakstar22 - He was quite strong indeed, though his sprinting was a bit disappointing... Thanks!

Daggen - Who said I wasn't talking about those wraps? Pfft

I would've played the Dutch Food Classic this noon but my back's really out. I can't sit still on a chair for more than 10 minutes, laying down now with my laptop. Will try to do it tonight if I get a bit better.

Dutch Food Valley Classic

Welcome to the Netherlands! An important race for the sponsors, no less. I'm here with one goal: succeed André Greipel.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc01_zps7f1147b1.jpg

We were definitely in luck today. Only two breakaway companions.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc02_zps609c95ad.jpg

It was mostly up to us to control the breakaway. As winner of the Eneco Tour, I was the big favorite of the day.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc03_zpsc527018e.jpg

Coming into the local round, the breakaway only had 2 minutes left.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc04_zps300a0025.jpg

It all came back together fairly soon, and Roy sought his chances on the flat roads of Veenendaal.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc05_zpsa264d8d5.jpg

The roads were against him. We kept a visual on him and set up our lead-out.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc06_zps13390299.jpg

Van Hummel knew a superday and launched me incredibly well, after correcting a miscalculation of the man before him.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc07_zpsbbb7dbc0.jpg

And then it was up to me!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc08_zpscfae9b4e.jpg

I felt the pressure from Haedo, breathing down on my neck!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc09_zps49c29795.jpg

But I withstood it! Amazing, my 9th of the season!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc10_zps171ac9e1.jpg

However, I must say, I could never have done it without this man today. The hero of the day: Kenny Van Hummel.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/dvc11_zpsa3433a87.jpg

He picked up things when it was looking bad. We were one man short, so this guy took the turn for twice as long ánd launched me perfectly!

Flash Interview:
Interviewer: Stijn, congratulations on today's win. Take us through the final kilometers?
Stijn Van Gent: Things were hectic. Roy jumped and outlasted us pretty long. Then we fell short a man, because Slagter had a flat earlier. Kenny did a brilliant job, though.
Interviewer: It almost looked like you had gone too early, but in the end, nobody overtook you.
Stijn Van Gent: I think everyone was tired. The race wasn't very tiring, but the final 20 km were incredibly fast.
Interviewer: Another victory on your palmares. It's starting to get impressive.
Stijn Van Gent: It's a really nice race and I'm glad I won here today. The team wanted a good result here and so we did.
Interviewer: Thank you, congratulations again.
Stijn Van Gent: Thank you!

sutty68 - He's floating, and that's the way to win a lot of races Wink

Marcovdw - I'm sure he saw it Pfft thanks!

bigggassi - Without Van Hummel, it would've been quite different! But Stijn finished it off with class, too Wink

Stijn Van Gent

Classic Hamburg

A World Tour Classic. Last year it was Degenkolb's to take. I'm here to fill his shoes.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/hamburg01_zps959182d4.jpg

Today was tougher than expected. There were some steep sections and it was a fast pace all around.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/hamburg02_zps0602481c.jpg

Borchi hit the tarmac. Luckily, everyone was able to avoid him!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/hamburg03_zps23b47129.jpg

Unfortunately, I was isolated for the sprint. I went early.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/hamburg04_zps1a37d07d.jpg

My legs were heavy! I felt I was slowing down earlier than usually. I tried to hang on for the podium!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/hamburg05_zpsb5799cef.jpg

Too bad, I finished fourth. Feillu took a beautiful win. In the end, Veelers came out of nowhere with a strong sprint. Too bad he was too far behind!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/hamburg06_zpsde5dae58.jpg

I must admit defeat today. I simply wasn't strong enough, that's it.
