let's hope that this breaks the curse of the second...great victory by Spilak, remaining calm and striking when it mattered the most

Olivier did okay but not ideal to lose time on Yates/Formolo here really and neither gaining on Bongiorno. But it was okay surely.
Dekker in the break is interesting but shows that team depth works well here as Zardini/Koep/Hugenhaben are also decent support different to previous years.
Spilak with a huge mark here putting pressure on Herklotz while Gesink seems to lose it against them but still with an impressive comeback in the final 3km.
And also nice to see that those managers taht asked for more activity by their riders, finally got it. e.g. Vosekalns and Dall'Oste. |

Good stage, Dall'Oste finaly trying hard but I guess he's tired after all that work he did for Oomen. Very impressed with Mareczko making the time limit though
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Vintage stuff by Spilak! Congrats Croatia
Happy about the stage for us, having two guys in the break and then Iturria and Nesset both climbing good on the finishing climb. Was a bit worried when Nesset got dropped a bit early, but I guess he just took his own pace up the climb.
Lost two riders, a bit surpringsly Vink given the participation in the break, and almost a third rider, so that's a pity, but this was a tough stage. I can hope that it gives us a bigger chance of being involved in the sprints, but I don't expect it!

Congrats Croatia. Herklotz tried, but this will be very hard to recover now.
We have three amazing opportunities coming up now though, with three nearly flat or even downhill sprints that all suit Silvio. 26 points to Spilak have to be conserved somehow.
Good to see us claiming the teams lead, we want to keep that until the end.

Very impressive result by Spilak, certainly didn't imagine to see him beat Herklotz here with this convincing a margin to boot. Congrats Cro!
The time in pink has expectedly ended for Gesink, but I can't be anything but happy with his result here: it was crucial not to lose any huge amounts of time to his potential 3rd place rivals and he did it perfectly here by even actually distancing Schleck, Alarcon, Henao and everyone else.
I was getting a bit scared when Gesink got dropped early on, but it's very nice to see that PCM 18 can actually simulate the behaviour of a low-ACC climber riding at his own pace. That worked pretty well.
Not a single stage from now on is going to let us catch an actual breather, so it's important that the entire team keeps on riding like this and Robert doesn't have too many bad days. 2 minutes on Schleck et al. should be a solid enough margin even considering he can take some seconds back on the very last day.
Thanks roturn for the breathtaking report!

100% this.
I can't blame my team for "failing" on a stage like this as long as they/Vosekalns try sth. Hope to see more of it.
Congrats to Croatia. Hopefully we'll get a thrilling final week

Expected disappointment when I saw Yates failed to follow the first move there, so him ending up 5th on the stage was a massive shock - albeit a very welcome one!
The question now is whether this is a case of a good day for him combined with a bad day for some of the others (particularly the likes of Alarcon and Henao), or a case of PCM liking his strong support stats (which may also explain Formolo and Bongiorno overperforming). If it's the former, then the aim is to defend the top 10, but if it's the latter than I can hope to fight for 5th. Will be interesting to see how this shakes out, particularly to predict how Monsalve and Cattaneo do in their respective GTs. |

Thank you for a nice report, roturn
We really don't like to try for breakaways this season. Hopefully that turns sooner rather than later, as Lunke and Tvetcov should be good options and riders for it here, I feel.
Congratulations on a big win, Croatia! |

Not sure about this stage really for my team.
Dekker being active and 4th on the stage is really nice.
Olivier with the main favourite group is also good.
But losing that much on a weaker climber Yates is surely not ideal as it will be hard to gain that back.
And also two breakaway riders Goos adn Kruijswijk are moving ahead of Olivier. |

Loved seeing Nesset in the break, but unfortunately the legs wasn't quite at his best. Still a good stage for him, even though many of his competitors for a top 20 spot also had a good stage today. Iturria also climbing good to hang on the peloton quite a long time, so another good stage for them.

We are definitely going back to PCT. Alarcon is a confirmed bust now. And he's also leading us in another GT...

Always good to gain time on Gesink and the rest in case something unexpected happens in the last week.
Obviously it sucks that the breakways now gobble up all the rankings points and allow weaker teams to outscore us in these stages, and we can't hope for bonus seconds to reduce the gap.
Sadly PCM can't realistically simulate a world in which every seemingly random stage result can be massively important at the end of the season.
Unacceptable to see Vasyliv so far behind again, this time it cost us the teams lead.
With breakaways expected to continue to dominate, I'm not optimistic regarding those 45 points at stake which is too much to give up on with bad tactics.
Tomorrow looks extremely juicy with these very steep climbs at the end of a long day, we have to be very attentive. If Herklotz can get even the slightest gap on Spilak, his descending could get us back into contention.

At least Aru is trying something now. The KoM jersey would be nice.

Kinda annoyed that Vosekalns seemed to ignore the kom sprints but didnt look like he had the legs to deliver today anyway

Yates with another unexpected overperformance
Makes holding onto the top 10 look more likely, and with the strongest of the climbers behind all a bit further back (Alarcon, Henao and Quintana) we're in good shape. Refuse to get carried away though, I know how crap my luck is usually |

I'd say the Manghen stage is still going to be slightly tougher than this one, but it was crucial to leave the one of the toughest stages behind without losing too much time to any direct rivals. Except for Yates, I'd say that's mission accomplished, plus just about 30s from Herklotz and Spilak is no disaster.
Really looking forward to tomorrow, should be a route that suits Gesink very well.
