BEAUTIFUL stage for us
That is indeed a big opportunity for a Top20 now for Nerz, which would definitely exceed my expectations.
Only the next stage looks particularly difficult, as it's the only pure hilly stage left (stage 15 should be close to a 0.5 ratio).
Recovery can also become a problem for sure.
Plus, a second place on a stage is amazing as well. We perfectly picked the right stages to attack so far.
McEvoy was always going to be hard to beat, so I'm happy Dominik tried at least.
Congratulations to Pendleton's, good to see we lost out to a team deserving the win very much.

Another good stage, hopefully saving energy for the challenges to come.

Contador seems to be just yawning his way through this first half of the race. Eventhough he sits in 3rd still I would like him to try to show some teeth on a stage like this, where he could actually do a little bit of harm into Tenorio and Nibali. But no. He'll probably be happy enough with 3rd in the GC.
Come on Contador. Blow this race open.

Must admit it's somewhat disappointing to once again miss a decisive break when that's pretty much the only thing we can race for on these stages. But oh well, it can only get better!
Congratulations to Koenigsegg and mattiasgt! That was a well deserved win for a great puncheur.
Also chapeau to cio93 and Puma-SAP, picking the right moment once again to join the breakaway.
Interesting battle between the GC guys, and it must be kind of frustrating especially for Schleck and Vesuvio-Accumalux getting that gap and not be rewarded with 20 bonus seconds, in addition to the nice gap he was able to open.
Good reporting once again, CountArach! |

Yes I agree with both these comments. In this case it actually looked like the teams in question were trying to set it up for their leaders.
I noticed something disturbing Aker have slipped below SRB on the teams classification
Sweet FA from SRB there, makes sense really the day before a Van Stayen day tomorrow. Though equally it could be a breakaway day, hope the team pull their fingers out!

It continues...
What a great amount of points did we take out of that first 9 stages, considering we were dead last in the startlist
This Vuelta might be an important step towards staying up, though our rivals take quite a fair few points as well.
Kelderman missed out sooo close on that KoM jersey yet again, but I really couldn't expect him to compete there at all with 69 MO, 73 HIL anyway.
But another second place from a break is incredible, especially considering both riders he beat have +3 HIL.
Nerz is still around after we now completed all "true" hilly stages, so he indeed has a good chance to go 10 places higher in GC than predicted.

Can we skip the next two stages please? Nothing good can come of them.

Was hoping for no gaps there for Denifl, but certainly nothing catastrophic.
Hoping we saved energy to pull back the break the next few days to give Goss an opportunity.

Yeah, having three riders in the peloton on stage 8 wasn't aclever call, considering we had none
We''ll be hard to beat!
More seriously, I hope we'll assist you in the chase for the breakaway on the coming stage, if we're not in it ourselves that is. Impey should be able to fight for a top 5 if it comes down to a bunch sprint.

Weirdly I can't wait for the mountains. At least the hemorrhaging should stop there. The TT's should be helpful as well.

Grrr, what the hell is the AI doing? Chase down the breakaway...
No good Schleck actually riding well if the peloton doesnt even try to win the stage.

Whoooo, that stage went well! Stage win goal bagged, awesome. Did not expect Hugenhaben to be the one doing it, and in a breakaway as well. Stylish.
Rolled my eyes when I saw that we relayed despite having a man in the break. Or did we? Maybe we're were stalling the chase? Brilliant AI!

I assume that is not the problem now. Really bad for Koenigsegg, feel sorry for them, what a Piti (copying Squires joke from Dauphine thread).
Nice win for Impey, South african sprinters are higligting the season this year.

Impey, you beauty!
He picked the perfect wheels in the kilometers before the sprint started, and perfectly switched to Guerao when it was needed due to Holloway waiting too long. That was huge, and our first Grand Tour stage win!
Thanks for the report, CountArach! Solid and well written all the way, only thing I didn't like about it was Impey getting the micro jersey of Pokerstars
A real shame to see Valverde down. It's just hugely frustrating to see one of the overall favourites loose six minutes on an innocent-looking flat stage.

Bad stage for us. Unlucky to have Van Stayen fall and it does sting a little to see Impey take the sprint - though there is a part of me that is pleased for ember also. He still finished quite high so some hope he can sprint better on the next day - still that is a nice flat one for Guerao.
Valverde... the fall underlines the huge risk of taking on a GT, disaster for Koenigsegg in their push for the WorldTour crown and indeed Valverde Vuelta campaign.

Fantastic 2nd place for Merino Criado. Exceeds all expectations for him this Vuelta, and recoups some of the loss of Schleck points that the breakaways stole.
Koenigsegg's luck certainly ran out there, the worst fear of all managers who hope for a good GC. Valverde can still be a right pain to the rest though if not injured.
