This month we had no important WorldTour races. We will only discuss the .HC races and important .1's:
Tour of Qatar: This race was won in the sprints by Hushovd, ahead of team-mate Phinney and the German Kittel.
Tour of Oman: This tour, also in the Middle East, was a surprising win for Flecha after a succesfull breakaway on the Green Mountain. 2nd was Gerrans, 3rd Gorka Izagirre. The sprints were dominated by Goss.
La Drôme Classic: This 1.1 was raced for the first team and was won by Ratto, who beat Tiernan-Locke in a sprint of 2. 3rd was Vantomme.
Omloop het Nieuwsblad: This is for some cycling fans the real opening of the season, and this immediately shows who will be favorites in the great Flander Classics. This year's edition was for Boonen, solo, ahead of Cancellara, also solo, and Eisel winning a sprint of a small group.
Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne: This race is also with cobbles in it, but usually more for the sprinters: Boonen won solo again. Cancellara beat Flecha in a sprint-a-deux.
Clasica de Almeria: This sprinter 1.HC race usually ends in a mass sprint. This year was no exception. It was won by Farrar, ahead of Van Hummel and Renshaw.
The WorldTour ranking obviously hasnt changed.
The continental ranking is lead by Groenewegen, ahead of Löfkvist and Gatto. The best team is Accent Jobs, ahead of Vini Fantini, IAM and Scott-Tissot.
The CQ-ranking is lead by Meersman, ahead of Van Hummel and Boonen. Groenewegen is 61st. Best team is Omega Pharma, ahead of Movistar and BMC. Scott-Tissot is 29th.
The most victories this season were for Groenewegen, ahead of Goss, Van Hummel and Castroviejo. As team, Movistar is the best, ahead of Omega Pharma, Lotto, Vacansoleil, Accent Jobs and Scott-Tissot.
Now really coming up: Preview for the Grand Prix de la Ville de Lillers
Today we start in Lillers, for our first 1-day race of the season. The race is, apart from some bumps in the middle of the course, fully flat, so the race should favor the sprinters. The break might want to interrupt, but the chances arent very big.
Today we get a break of 4 men: Loutit for Scott-Tissot, Bagot for Cofidis, Hoke for Optum and Vennell for Bissell.
In the pack, Europcar and La Pomme do most of the work.
Then, just over the half, the pack stops working for no reason. The lead grows to 8min with 70kms left. Europcar and La Pomme however start working again. The gap is under control again very quickly.
With 50kms left, the lead has decreased to 3min23.
With 28kms left, 3 riders break from the pack, but without any danger: Malacarne, Jarrier and Goncalves.
With 20kms left, the break has got 1min05 to the pursuiters and 1min50 to the pack. The group will last long, that is for sure.
A problem in the pack for Auber93: their leader Bacquet has fallen with 18kms left.
With 15kms left, the pursuiters are reeled in and the group leads by 1min05. Things will soon be over.
New attack: Gerard, Gaudin and again Goncalves.
Because the pack stops working, Loutit and Hoke consider it the right time for an attack.
With 4,5 kms left, Bagot leads with 25sec to the rest of the early break. They get the 1-2-3-4 today.
Can Bagot hold on to the line?
Yes he can! He reaches the line solo, ahead of Hoke, Loutit and Vennell.
The sprint of the pack is won by the main favorite. Good thing is we won the team standing

Today another French flat race, Paris-Troyes. It is not as flat as in Lillers, but it should still favor the sprinters. The pack might be lazy however.
We get a break of 4 in the terrible rain: Lane for Scott-Tissot, Golcer for Tirol, Magner for Hincapie Sportswear and Cecchin for Nippo.
The pack is lead by La Pomme, Europcar, Bretagne, Auber 93 and Cofidis.
The pack has learned from Lillers and gives the group a maximum lead of 6min45.
Quite a boring race today so far, no attacks or whatsoever. The lead is 2min36 with 35kms left to ride.
22kms from the line: Goncalves attacks, just like in the last race. He tries to reach the leaders on his own.
20kms from the line: Coquard tries to reach the Portuguese.
The duo is reeled in just 2kms later.
15kms from the line: On the last hill Sijmens attacks.
13kms from the line: The lead group now also contains the Belgian. The lead is just over half a minute.
12,5kms from the line: Outsider Coquard falls.
10kms from the line: Lane still up front with a dup from La Pomme: Vaubourzeix and Antomarchi.
4kms from the line: Vaubourzeix is reeled in as last rider from the break.
2,5kms from the line: Two trains up front for the mass sprint.
Finish: A victory for Chavanel. He beats Bacquet, Ewan and Grenda to the line. Another spectacular sprint race.

A flat one day race today, even though there are some bumps. As you would expect, the sprinters are favorite.
4 riders are allowed to break today: Zepuntke for Rabobank, Prete for Scott-Tissot, Manousek for Bauknecht and Pols for Ventilair.
The pace in the pack is made by Rabobank and De Rijke.
It looks like a very boring race today, the pack just lets the lead grow to about 5min30 and starts to reel in. It looks like its gonna be a very boring race until the sprint.
At 60kms from the line the wind comes to play a role. Lets see who will get in trouble in the back. Our riders are well placed up front.
With 20kms from the line, the lead is 1min23. The sprinters are sitting ready up front.
18kms from the line: Attack by Mortensen.
16kms left: He reaches the front.
5.5kms from the line: The last attackers are reeled in.
Crash in the pack: Edgar, an outsider involved

Trofej Porec is raced today, a cobbled race with some hills on the way and a total of 5 cobbled sections. Therefore the cobblers with hill abilities are favorite. The break however also stands quite a good chance.
On the first cobbled section of today, a break has just formed: Spengler for Scott-Tissot, Oliphant for Raleigh, Pinto for Efapel and Antunes for Ceramica Flaminia.
On the 2nd cobbled section, an outsider gets a puncture: Der. He doesnt have much difficulty returing to the pack.
While Spengler is leading the front group on the 3rd cobbled section, the pack has completely fallen still. Could the break make it?
After this section, the pack starts working again. Utensilnord and Drapac lead the pursuit. The lead is decreasing from a max of 8min33.
The pack is in trouble: With 25kms left, the lead is still 3min20.
With 15kms to the line, the lead is still 2min56.
After the last cobbled section, all is still together. It looks like 4 riders go for the win, in the sprint or with a very late attack. Oliphant is the man to beat in the sprint.
5kms from the line, Spengler makes his attack for victory. Can he hold on?
No, 3kms from the line he is reeled in and is in the lead in the group. He has to make a good sprint.
Because the pace in the front group is so low, the group is reeled in. We surprsingly get a disorganized mass sprint.
At the line it is Oliphant, who had enough energy left. 2nd is Zanotti, 3rd is Phelan giving us 3 podiums on a day! Pellaud also ends up at a good 9th spot.

We now have the start of the Istrian Spring Trophy, in Croatia. In the 4 days of race, several difficulties are ready for riders to go over them. Only 1 of 4 stages is for the sprinters, but we will first have a prologue and 2 uphill finishes. Therefore, the race should favor the punchers with a decent prologue in their legs.
The race profiles:
Our squad
151. C. Watson
152. M. Freiberg
153. D. Howson
154. S. Pellaud
155. A. Phelan
156. L. Spengler
Here is Mancebo, he will be the last threat for Zwizanski. He disappoints and loses 7 seconds. This means Zwizanski wins the stage and takes the lead in the GC and points standings. Phelanand Howson did well with 12th and 14th. The -25jersey is for the Burgos-rider Mas. Optum is the best team.

Stage 2 up tomorrow. We hope to achieve a good result with Watson or Phelan and become KoM with Spengler
Today the first uphill finish of 2. This hilly stage should give a clear view who are favorite for the GC this edition. A break might still interrupt the chances of the favorites. Chances however are not too big.
At the first KoM, only Spengler is ahead. He obviously takes the first lead in the classfication.
Later on, he is joined by 6 riders: Balck, Stuyven, Bico, Pereira, Carazo and Hansen.
The lead in the pack is taken by Optum.
The group gets a maximum lead of 4min49.
At the second KoM, Spengler gets the points without any opposition.
While Spengler takes the points at KoM3, it has started to rain.
Many crashes in the back of the pack. Many favorites included: Jacques-Maynes is the most notable.
At the intermediate sprint, Balck is the strongest.
At the last categorized climb before the finish, Balck beats Pereira and Spengler.
In the pack, Watson and Blikra manage to set a small gap. They are reeled in almost immediately.
At sprint 2, Balck beats Hanson and Stuyven.
Phelan now sets a small gap to the pack.
When we turn up the final climb, Phelan holds a very small lead.
In the final km, Romero and Reus sprint for victory today.
At the line
Romero wins the sprint. 2nd is Reus, 3rd Belda. Phelan ends up 18th. Romero also takes over the GC lead. KoM is Spengler, Zwizanski holds the points. Phelan takes the -25 jersey.
Full results tomorrow, as I am feeling really tired and not very well. Very sorry for that
