Nice reporting style,
BTW how do you get it so the circles dont show up around your riders?

Haha, nice racing by Wesley "Ferrari" Hoogenboom.
Good result for Hammarling and Fischer still holding on to his top 10 place in the GC |

Race Report
Tour of South Africa Stage 4

Stage four takes the riders from Bloukrans Bridge to George and even though it is classed as flat, there is a lot of climbing to cope with once again. The final climb comes in the last twenty kilometres and it's pretty vicious, so the sprinters will have to be careful and save some energy there if possible. Today is also a big day for Aidan van Niekerk as the finish is located in his home town. Can he give his family and friends something to remember?
With the Départ flag still being waved, Van Niekerk certainly seemed in an attacking mood today. He was over a minute clear of the peloton before anybody else had even fastened their helmets! Clearly, he couldn't ride the whole stage solo, so he slowed down and waited for support.
Eventually, he was joined by three more riders. Te Stroet, Hudecek and another Sky Dev rider, Oget who was keen to increase his lead in the KoM competition. Hudecek was also hunting points but Oget would get more and keep the polka dot jersey for another day. It has to be said that Te Stroet and Hudecek were doing absolutely no work, leaving it to the two team mates to try to hold off the peloton on their own.
MTN weren't messing around today. The gap didn't get bigger than five minutes all day and the pace was extremely tough for many riders, especially in the 30+ degree temperatures. The breakaway stood very little chance all day and after mopping up as many points as possible on the final climb, both Oget and Van Niekerk dropped back to the main group. It was a great day for the local lad but it wasn't to be the dream victory. He did, however, pick up enough bonus seconds at the sprints to move into the top ten overall.
Today's pileup didn't involve any Sky riders but it did take down the yellow jersey. McEvoy also took out Weissinger, which meant the German couldn't compete for the sprint. McEvoy was brilliantly brought back to the front by his whole team but he had nothing left when he got there.
Possibly encouraged by Endura's problems, Schumacher went for a late attack in George. The green jersey wearer got a good gap but there were still four kilometres to go. Did he have enough to hold off the fast men and claim a second stage win?
Unfortunately for the sprinters, the line came 500m too soon as Schumacher just held on to take the win. It was a massive shame for Hammarling as the young sprinter would have picked up a stage win were it not for Schumacher's late dig. Nevertheless, second is a superb performance on a tough day. His leadout manHuigsloot held on for another top ten, whilst Fischer stayed safe in the peloton to keep his GC hopes alive.

Too bad Hammarling couldn't sprint for 1st place. We're doing pretty good in Africa, although Fischer seems to be sliding further and further away in the GC |

Meh. Wesley doesn't say it, but is secretly a bit jealous . Nobody wants to interview him, even not after the Ferrari imitation

Well, that was rather close to our first win but beaten by him again
@Luigi, it's not, you didn't lose any time on stage three either Bakker is doing a great job for the team, keeping Hammarling out of trouble.
@aidan, sure, go ahead. He had a great day out there but the other two riders wouldn't help, so it was never going to happen.
@mvhoogdalem, Fischer's doing what he has to do, staying near the front out of trouble. Stage six is the big one, so GC placing isn't that important at the moment.
@Jesley, if you feel that Wesley has something to say, go ahead. Maybe he could issue a public apology for his battering ram move the other day! |

@Brewers No, there is no interest in Wesley yet. He probably needs some time to be noticed. That's possible on different ways. (succesfully) getting in the break, being a beast at the sprint train, getting a nice result(TT or not) or letting half of the peloton fall again, since it would then be recognised as a bad habit and he as a dangerous rider
