Stage 5: Le Cap d'Agde - Perpignan, 196,5 km, flat
Sprinters' teams on alert
The visit of the Mediterranean coast continues with the start in Cap d'Agde, one of France's most popular seaside resorts. Wide open beaches greet many Northern visitors in the summer months, and the Tour de France stage start will surely add to the holiday feeling on July 8.
Again, the wind could play a major role on this stage as the riders will plunge Southwards along the coastline to Perpignan. The 'Tramontane', a typical gale coming from the Pyrenees, could split the pack if riders are not paying attention. The sprinters' teams should look forward to another battle of the fast men at the finish line in Perpignan.
The stage, which passes through the famous Corbières wine region, is dedicated to Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali. The eccentric artist was fascinated by the spectacle of cycling and especially the Tour de France, and created the 1959 Tour's postcard.

Cavendish for number three?
Most likely, if a break is allowed to go, it won't be until next week.

Cavendish for number three?
I just like randomly copying and pasting this in.
But still, why not another stage for him?

Saxo Bank will probably not do much to keep the leader's jersey on this stage, so it'll be up to the sprinter teams to reel in the breakaway. So far, Columbia has been the only team wanting to do this. |

Breakaway anyone?
Either that or Cavendish again
Anyway, does anyone think there might be more wind-based japery considering the long stretch by the sea? |

Hushovd has tryed to pass Cavendish..not even close. Let's hope that Bennati and Freire will try tomorrow.
(I forget Boonen?..yes I know.)

If that's so and if there will be no crosswinds, then a break might make it tomorrow. With only Columbia, who have spent a lot of energy at this point, to reel in the breaks, the chase might break down. It's not very likely that the other sprinter teams will help Columbia, because they now Cavendish will hand it to them.
I'm gonna go with Augé

I hope for breakaway! But it is not likely...
Colombia had a relatively quiet day today, I suspect they were saving energy for tommorow. So they will pull tommorow and then breakaway will go on stage 6.

I really can't see anyone other then Cavendish winning this stage, but I do hope that Saxo doesn't do anything in the peloton. Colombia will most likely do anything to make the stage end in a bunch sprint. If Colombia are smart they should place a rider in the breakaway. |

I'd like to see Saxo Bank, Columbia and Astana put somone in the break.... say like Rast, Grabsch and O'Grady.
It would be interesting to see if anyone would bother to pull them back. Would the sprinters teams work to pull back a break to face a rested Cavendish train? Would any GC team bother? |

I'm really hoping for the wind to have an affect again
I do think the break stands a good chance tomorrow if there won't be side wind, if not a bunch sprint and Cavendish.... |

Early break.
Now many guys are at a resonable distance in the GC and Saxo won't bother to chase. |

X2
I think Rabo will help with at least one man, maybe two because Freire needs to get them stage wins after a disasterous start. Garmin will help Farrar now that the TTT is done with.
I don't think Quickstep will start pulling for Boonen before after the first mountains because of his form. |
