Tour of Britain (C1) Discussion
5 days with a bit of everything!
We start with 2 days for the sprinters followed by 3 days for the hill riders/GC favourites. An exciting race with a mix of everything for the riders involved here! The same route for the second year in a row!
| 1 | Nikias Arndt | JEWA TIROL | 21h00'31 | | 2 | Ivan Sosa | McCormick Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 3 | Robert Stannard | Everesting | s.t. | | 4 | Natnael Tesfatsion | Bralirwa - Cegeka | + 4 | | 5 | Emanuel Buchmann | Team UBS | + 8 | | 6 | Tiesj Benoot | Sony - Force India | + 20 | | 7 | Michal Kwiatkowski | DK Zalgiris | s.t. | | 8 | Aidan Van Niekerk | ISA - Hexacta | s.t. | | 9 | Aurelien Paret-Peintre | Ekoi - Le Creuset | s.t. | | 10 | Arnaud Demare | Tryg - Eni | + 24 |
| Rider | FL | HI | SP | AC | ST | RS | RC | FT | Grosu | 72 | 72 | 82 | 79 | 73 | 69 | 77 | 65 | Abdul Halil | 70 | 60 | 81 | 79 | 71 | 68 | 77 | 60 | Zariff | 70 | 61 | 80 | 80 | 71 | 67 | 77 | 60 | Liu | 74 | 67 | 80 | 80 | 76 | 69 | 80 | 64 | Demare | 71 | 78 | 80 | 78 | 72 | 69 | 77 | 68 | Hodeg | 72 | 65 | 79 | 78 | 69 | 74 | 70 | 53 | Riabushenko | 76 | 68 | 79 | 77 | 71 | 74 | 76 | 66 | Kamberaj | 75 | 69 | 79 | 78 | 73 | 73 | 78 | 64 | Van der Lijke | 70 | 73 | 79 | 74 | 68 | 66 | 73 | 63 | Rajovic | 72 | 64 | 78 | 82 | 70 | 76 | 70 | 57 |
Some big sprinters here in Britain for the first 2 stages. Grosu is an excellent sprinter and should be the quickest in the long run but may struggle with acceleration. Same goes for Abdul Halil.
Zariff and Liu will be able to compete and maybe the initial jump these 2 have will help beat the quicker guys for a stage win.
Demare could pick up some really important bonus seconds for the GC with his sprint ability. Hodeg, Riabushenko, Kamberaj, Van der Lijke and Rajovic all can compete. Especially the latter who has the best acceleration out of all the top sprinters.
| Rider | FL | HI | AC | ST | RS | RC | FT | Lutsenko | 68 | 82 | 80 | 75 | 72 | 68 | 68 | De Bie | 71 | 82 | 72 | 74 | 73 | 66 | 72 | Stannard | 73 | 81 | 78 | 75 | 76 | 74 | 77 | Benoot | 71 | 81 | 71 | 75 | 74 | 74 | 62 | Vakoc | 70 | 80 | 73 | 74 | 70 | 66 | 60 | Gesbert | 71 | 80 | 73 | 80 | 78 | 78 | 76 | Van Niekerk | 69 | 80 | 74 | 72 | 75 | 76 | 82 | Moscon | 71 | 80 | 73 | 76 | 77 | 75 | 71 | Eriksson | 72 | 79 | 76 | 78 | 74 | 75 | 75 | Demare | 71 | 78 | 78 | 72 | 69 | 77 | 68 | Lagane | 70 | 78 | 77 | 70 | 71 | 71 | 70 | Stocek | 71 | 78 | 75 | 75 | 70 | 72 | 75 | Morin | 70 | 78 | 76 | 75 | 73 | 68 | 67 | Tesfatsion | 68 | 78 | 78 | 68 | 72 | 74 | 73 | Boswell | 68 | 78 | 73 | 74 | 70 | 66 | 70 | Sosa | 67 | 78 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 80 | 75 |
Lutsenko, De Bie, Stannard and Benoot all arrive as the big favourites. The former with incredible acceleration along with Stannard.
Vakoc, Gesbert, Van Niekerk and Moscon all have the ability to be able to compete for victories here!
Demare seems to be the best in all terrain and probably my favourite for the victory, depending on gaps from the true hill climbers. Lagane is similar and could also compete!
Sosa returns hoping to be able to improve on his 2nd place from 2024.
With a lot of returning top 10 finishes from 2024 it will be a very exciting race to follow!
Good luck to all teams!

Thanks Jakstar for the preview!
Double punch Liu-Vakoc here with a good supporting cast. Top 10 GC is the minimum goal.

Don't know if this will make the preview redundant or not as I can't see everyone's MM stat but the last two stages aren't Hilly stages there Medium Mountain ones especially the last stage which is a really long climb the short stages though make stamina next to no impact so Gesbert shouldn't have the massive advantage he's had in some stage races this year but he would probably be the favourite still Tesfatsion will be interesting as I'd imagine he will go much better then expected with ST not playing a factor. Demare and Lagane won't go well last two stages so there out of GC, Sosa could be the outside players
Moscon just hoping for a solid top 10 and some good stage placings which should be possible |

Thanks for the preview, Jakstar! Let's hope Rajovic gets some more from the sprints here than in Norway and even more that jt is right about MM counting as that should at least put APP among the GC contenders which would be highly appreciated in our win goal race this season.

Must admit I am slightly surprised to read that the penultimate stage is for the MM stat. How long are those final two climbs?
If so, surely Sosa might be the hidden favourite here? |

My thoughts precisely.
Hopefully we can make use on Hirschi's absence.
Thanks for the preview, Jakstar!

From a personal point of view lets hope JT is right and this is a MM race. That was my working assumption because MT used to have a big influence (If you look back a few years stage 4 and 5 used to play to the MT stat with 4 typically being decisive, Sosa won stage 4 last year). Unfortunately, I think the deep field and the move to 2024 might hurt Sosa a lot. He has a much bigger advantage in MT than he does in MM versus the punchier guys. In which case this could be a waste of 5 race days not to mention a total failure on a win goal.
From a race design point of view I thought it was nicely balanced last year with Sosa/Arndt/Buchmann all having a more balanced profile while Stannard a more traditional puncheur also did well. Hopefully we are still in that space as that is where this race is supposed to be among the non-TT HC and C1 climbing races.

Gesbert was solid in Eritrea and hope he can build on that here. Tougher competition as far as puncheurs go, but we have high ambitions regardless. Hopefully Abdul Halil can do better than in Tour of Norway also.

Kamberaj bet on the right train, just couldn't get by in the end. We'll take third.

Was slightly encouraged to see Absul Halil wheelsurfing instead of relying on Van Aert’s lead-out, but unfortunately he couldn’t get into a competetive position. New chance tomorrow!

We're not in for the sprint stages, but seeing most of our team not losing time et Stocek well positionned is nice.
With what Heine said, we'll see what he can do. A top 10 would be incredible, a top 15 enough.
Thanks for the preview and the reports!

Riabushenko very badly positioned from the start. Narvaez losing time seems unnecessary but I guess rules out any confusion about team leadership with Sosa. Sosa in 55th is a little worrying on positioning.
Congrats to Dane on a nice win. Thanks for the report.

Better from Abdul Halil, a 4th place is not great, but an okay result for him. We turn our focus to the hilly stages, which is what really matters! Unfortunate to see AHJ and Morin lose time though, as they could have provided some decent depth points.
