Welcome to the 8th edition of the cobbled classic Roma Maxima. For the 4th year in a row the race sits in the PTHC race category, meaning it attracts some of the best cobblers in the world. 196,1 km, where the race starts of with a large flat section before we run into pretty much the only mayor uphill section of the race. After that the real fun starts with 16 cobble section. Mainly a race for the strong cobble riders this.
Not one of the oldest races, but it still packs a lot of history with Kenneth Vanbilsen winning the 2 first editions riding for Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo, and while Vanbilsen is not back Lierse is. The 2 last editions of the race as a CT1 race was won by Danny Summerhill and Joeri Stallaert. From 2022 the race has been PTHC and was won by first Mads Pedersen and then twice by Lukasz Wisniowski who is the only former winner returning this year.
Previous winners:

A very strong field present in Italy again this year, with Wisniowski returning in his quest for 3 in a row, and while he has some good flat riders to help him I am a bit worried about his cobble support. I am afraid he will be alone when it is time to decide this.
Per might be the biggest favorite and he does have a much strong support team with Menten, Meiler, Resell and the talented Askey all present to give him as strong legs as possible for the final. Altur is another rider with a strong team in Stavrakakis and Kortsidakis. Will his support be strong enough to let him fight it out with the other big guns?
Siric looks much stronger than he did last year after winter trainings and is ready to move one step up on the podium, and together with Girmay he will be looking to beat the other favorites with their strong sprint at the end. Riders like Tiller might plan the same, and while his end sprint is a bit weaker he might still be able to surprise everyone here.
Riding from a team with good memories from the earlier versions of the race are Gamper, like Kasperkiewicz he will need to attack before a sprint to win this. The same can be said of Rutsch and last years 4th place Jacobs.
Other riders who did well last year who could repeat are last years 6th Gaday and last years 3rd Ferreira. Gaday might prefer the hillier races and Ferreira looks weaker than last year, but everything can happen!
All riders with 77 or higher cobble stat:
| Name | FL | HI | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | | David Per | 79 | 70 | 74 | 75 | 71 | 82 | 74 | 74 | 68 | | Marcos Altur | 75 | 70 | 75 | 70 | 70 | 82 | 72 | 68 | 70 | | Lukasz Wisniowski | 78 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 66 | 81 | 71 | 73 | 72 | | Przemyslaw Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 74 | 75 | 77 | 70 | 81 | 59 | 67 | 79 | | Ivan Siric | 78 | 71 | 77 | 80 | 69 | 80 | 77 | 71 | 60 | | Patrick Gamper | 77 | 67 | 77 | 77 | 69 | 80 | 64 | 71 | 72 | | Rasmus Tiller | 74 | 70 | 76 | 75 | 70 | 79 | 74 | 73 | 69 | | Jonas Rutsch | 77 | 68 | 76 | 75 | 69 | 79 | 69 | 68 | 70 | | Johan Jacobs | 76 | 69 | 77 | 76 | 67 | 79 | 67 | 68 | 71 | | Biniam Girmay | 77 | 71 | 76 | 76 | 77 | 79 | 77 | 76 | 64 | | Alexander Sulimov | 72 | 69 | 75 | 69 | 65 | 78 | 64 | 69 | 76 | | Logan Owen | 73 | 69 | 73 | 71 | 72 | 78 | 64 | 71 | 68 | | Lucas Manuel Gaday | 71 | 75 | 75 | 72 | 71 | 78 | 71 | 73 | 61 | | Ricardo Ferreira | 72 | 67 | 72 | 68 | 67 | 78 | 70 | 67 | 70 | | Maxime Daniel | 71 | 67 | 73 | 73 | 69 | 78 | 74 | 69 | 67 | | Jose Gerardo Ulloa | 72 | 70 | 73 | 72 | 71 | 77 | 68 | 68 | 68 | | Georgios Stavrakakis | 76 | 68 | 74 | 70 | 66 | 77 | 64 | 68 | 70 | | Jodok Salzmann | 73 | 71 | 77 | 76 | 71 | 77 | 67 | 71 | 70 | | Milan Menten | 72 | 73 | 75 | 76 | 73 | 77 | 68 | 68 | 62 | | Lukas Meiler | 74 | 74 | 72 | 70 | 71 | 77 | 63 | 71 | 75 | | Saya Kuroeda | 74 | 63 | 72 | 73 | 75 | 77 | 74 | 78 | 63 | | Michail Kortsidakis | 77 | 69 | 75 | 75 | 73 | 77 | 68 | 72 | 76 |

Hard to fully form an opinion without seeing the outcome of Omloop but on paper this could be an incredible race for us, Kaspa should be a genuine podium threat!
Thanks for the preview!

76 CB Siric -> 2nd place
78 CB Siric -> 2nd place
80 CB Siric -> ???
I feel like the odds are that I'm gonna end up disappointed here based on previous results. Would be super cool to see Wisniowski go for 3rd in a row, but Per has to be the most likely to win, right?
Thanks for the preview.

I wonder where Vanbilsen is nowadays. Probably retired?
Gamper with a very similar skillset though, top 10 should be possible. Cool preview!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Top-20 would be nice for Ulloa, but I fear the AI will most likely not treat him as someone going for any kind of result. Thank you for the great preview, Heine!

I’m really interested in what happens in our cobbled season. Last season the cobbled departement saved is, while in this particular race it was probably an overperformance. Actually having a pre-race favorite is somewhat interesting. On paper a top 3 is realistic, but I Think top 5 and some decent depth will be my go-to expectation. Stavrakakis, Kortsidakis and Boutopoulos should all be good bets for results between 10-30th without Altur. Let’s see what happens when a real Leader is actually trying to get a result.

Will be very happy if Owen can score according to his position in the favourites' list! I fear he might be a leading candidate to try a long range attack and lose any chance of a good result. Also looking forward to see what Rossi can do on the cobbles as lieutenant. I'm sure Sammy will be watching with interest as well
Thanks for the preview!

Thanks Heine for the preview!
I expect this to be a bit too hard for Daniel and our other cobblers. Every point is welcome!

Here we go. First cobbles race of the season is one we weren't at last year, so it's a fresh slate for us. Per may be the slight favorite on paper with the PTHC splits, but it's all still close enough for him to slip down on a bad day, as we saw in the Omloop bunch sprint. Hopefully his mountain helps counteract his stamina a bit here.
I'm almost more interested to see how my depth performs here. Invested quite a bit into it, so it would be nice if they could load up on minor placings without accidentally manipulating Per in terms of strategy.
Thanks for the preview!

Not sure what to expect here. Kuroeda was aggressive in Omloop and Muhindo as well in Juarez. Hopefully we can maintain that sort of stance here to try and bring something from Rome.

Hopefully we can get a top 50 here to avoid a third 0 pointer this month, we are definitely crashing and burning after our strong start in January.

Three in a row might be too much to ask for from Wisniowski, but hoping we can top the result from Omloop.

It's like a broken record
Per was a bit of an obvious winner, so 2nd place is super good for us. There will be some stronger startlists in PT, but Siric still looks fine in this game version. Some welcome points to start of the month.
Congrats to bbl and thanks for the report

6th is good from Tiller and with Salzmann in 12th there's also some depth scoring. Thanks for the report and congrats bbl! |

Well, that was definately not what we hoped for - but I suppose the puncture fucked up his chances aswell as our depth got depleted in getting him back.
A race to forget unfortunately. We can't afford stuff like this in the PT cobbles.

Ulloa A shame that the AI just doesn't care.
Nice to see two national champions in the break showing their colours! Also nice to see a strong attack like this one take the win. Congratulations, baseballover312!
