January has ended, time to have a look at the first ranking update of the season. It will come to no surprise that one team is first, and another team is last. One of the teams is also fourteenth. But enough with the unnecessary yet extremely funny comments, time to go straight to the point and have a look at... all the races. Just all the races in one table, because that's how I roll.
| Position | | Team | DUC | San José | TDU | Port | Jua | GORC | Total | | 1 | | Spark Team NZ | 94 | 0 | 62 | 41 | 317 | 86 | 600 | | 2 | | MOL Cycling Team | 79 | 0 | 20 | 89 | 290 | 36 | 514 | | 3 | | Tryg - Eni | 11 | 0 | 231 | 44 | 133 | 0 | 419 | | 4 | | Assa Abloy | 48 | 0 | 108 | 0 | 186 | 46 | 388 | | 5 | | Sauber Petronas Racing | 0 | 2 | 104 | 118 | 95 | 24 | 343 | | 6 | | Minions | 0 | 0 | 94 | 126 | 90 | 11 | 321 | | 7 | | Everesting | 0 | 0 | 40 | 126 | 126 | 0 | 292 | | 8 | | Bolt - Eesti | 82 | 0 | 19 | 0 | 147 | 32 | 280 | | 9 | | Specialized | 31 | 0 | 3 | 227 | 0 | 9 | 270 | | 10 | | Lotto-Caloi | 44 | 0 | 87 | 0 | 64 | 48 | 243 | | 11 | | Ekoi - Le Creuset | 71 | 0 | 0 | 146 | 0 | 10 | 227 | | 12 | | Trans Looney Tunes | 155 | 0 | 62 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 225 | | 13 | | McCormick Pro Cycling | 12 | 0 | 0 | 118 | 85 | 0 | 215 | | 14 | | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | 0 | 0 | 66 | 12 | 110 | 12 | 200 | | 15 | | Hunter Valley Cycling | 0 | 0 | 75 | 0 | 73 | 16 | 164 | | 16 | | Duvel-Tsingtao | 45 | 0 | 27 | 0 | 29 | 56 | 157 | | 17 | | JEWA TIROL | 0 | 0 | 47 | 0 | 43 | 28 | 118 | | 18 | | Zwift - Newton Foundation | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 74 | 0 | 74 | | 19 | | DK Zalgiris | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 61 | 0 | 61 | | 20 | | Bralirwa - Cegeka | 22 | 0 | 13 | 5 | 0 | 11 | 51 | | 21 | | Colombini Kometa | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 32 | 0 | 37 | | 22 | | IESE ProCycling Team | 0 | 0 | 6 | 0 | 21 | 0 | 27 | | 23 | | Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 0 | 10 | | 24 | | DeNA Roadstars | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 |
Great start of the season for Spark. Scoring big in three sprint races and picking up some points in the Tour Down Under and Volta a Portugal. Immediately with more than double the points of 18 other teams. Most teams at the top generally picking up points in most races with the biggest scoring in Juarez, but in third place there's Tryg - Eni with a lot of Tour Down Under points.
Specialized, Ekoi - Le Creuset and McCormick Pro Cycling didn't score well in the PCT sprint races, but are still comfortably mid-table or higher thanks to their decent points in the PTHC Volta a Portugal.
In the spoiler you can find the RD's, pprd and projected points.

January really is a sprinters' festival, as can be seen in the individual rankings. Except for Ranaweera in tenth, only fast men on top of the table. Big points from
Coquard to get his team leading after January. Not bad for an old man.

Amazing to see our friends at Spark getting such a start! 600 points is a very long way in the PCT towards promotion if the target is around 3000 points.
MOL and Assa Abloy already in a good position for the inevitable promotion.

Thanks for the update, Nemo!
Spark obviously with a great month. It's good we're among the best non-sprinter teams and have only teams in front with more RDs spent. But we'll see where it leads once the first cobbled races are done.

Stop the count lol
Think this is the highest we've ever been in a PCT ranking.
Spark are off to a really strong start, seeing Coquard scoring all those points is going to make it a lot harder for Hirschi to win the Individual rankings, but it's nice to see him scoring over 100 points from a race we weren't sure about how he'd do preseason.
Seeing us have 3 riders in the top 20 obviously isn't sustainable but it's nice to see that we aren't reliant on just Hirschi to score well for us, it's definitely an encouraging start to the season and hopefully we can ride it to a nice and safe mid table finish.

Out of habit I clicked on the CT rankings first and didn't see us at the top of the table before I remembered we are back in the PCT division...
Extremely pleased to only use five RDs on a pan flat race (that is not suited for our better GC leaders) and still managed to collect 74 points and stay out of the relegation places for now.
Much praise to rookie Colby Simmons for showing up in his debut race and winning the youth jersey -- pretty sure that's a first for our team but I'm too lazy right now to go back through my extensive records. On the other hand, our sprinter Bram Welten was a little underwhelming so hopefully he gets things turned around.
If we can collect points like this on the other flat and hilly races, we should be well positioned to challenge for a promotion spot this season.
Hats off to Coquard and Spark for a blazing start!

After predicting Spark high I love them leading at this point! Fantastic start of the season from Coquard!
Been a sprinters party til now, we will see some big shakeups as the other riders start to score

Looks like the Walls/Rodenberg swap is working well for both parties right now. Nice to see!

Thanks for the update!
We're not exactly where we want to be but with Van Poppel's misses and Quita's no show in TDU top 10 isn't horrible.

A month without a real highlight but with a lot of decent results. Consistency is enough to not worry about relegation, if the fortune falls our way slightly more often we're looking at an exciting season.
Spark at the top with Coquard's demolition act, well deserved! Thanks for the funny comments Nemolito

Thanks Nemo for the update!
We’re obviously pleased with the results this month. We need Liu to score big, so far so good.
Very cool to see Jakstar ruling PCT so far.

Very impressive start by Coquard and Spark, and it’s nice to see one of the best sprinters deliver consistently great results. It’s been a while since we experienced that in MG!
Happy with our start - Dainese has been good and cool to see contributions from many of our riders in TDU. Still a long way to go, and I expect our PpRD to be highest in the early part of season where there are lots of good races for Dainese and then Wisniowski going forward. Then we face some mountaineous and TT races that will be more challenging to score well in, so we need this good start.
Thank you for the update!

Worst month we've ever had. Our sprinter era is officially over it seems. Our actual leaders are still waiting to kick the season off so hopefully we can get out of this back end of the table soon. Thanks for the update

Spark leading the PCT rankings just feels right after they almost gained promotion to PT in the offseason bookkeeping. Looking forward to seeing more undulations in the HC calendar soon and how folks have planned their major GC leaders.

Congrats on a great start Jakstar. 600 points in the first month is fabtastic.
It's not as bad as I anticipated for us, but mainly because of Muhindo getting us a lucky 100+ points haul in Juarez. The same amount of points we got in a PTHC race with 3 more stages where we sent one of our leaders. That's what's worrying for us.
Thanks for the update Nemo!

First time we have ever led a rankings! Great stat for us this season. Coquard has a large rest now before starting up again so hopefully the rest of the team can perform well. Carlos needs to pick up his game a bit and hopefully Afewerki can go well in the races he leads.
Thanks for the update!

First update went pretty much as expected after a piss poor outing at the Tour Down Under, but Willwohl overperforming is a nice to have! Thanks for the update, it's going to be a slog this season

Thanks for the updates. Typically we have either really bad or really good Januarys so mid-table is a new experience. One of our goals for the offseason was to keep the points ticking over by having a ride capable of scoring in every race. Riabushenko was doing nicely until his total no show in GORC, So not a bad start I think but we will need something better than "not bad" at some point.
Congrats to Jakstar, huge stuff from Coquard.
